GALA FINALS FINALS 2-3 SEP

WHAT IS SHORT+SWEET? Now celebrating its sixteenth year worldwide, Short+Sweet is the biggest festival of 10-minute works. Held annually in over a dozen locations around the world, the festival has already helped launch the careers of countless theatre professionals. Over 300 short plays are produced by Short+Sweet every year, bringing together artists from a variety of backgrounds and making global creative connections. Short+Sweet has been delighting audiences across Queensland for nine years with a diverse program including cutting-edge contemporary, grisly drama, outlandish comedy, sultry song and everything in between. Over 200 Queensland artists will come together to stage 10-minute works of theatre and cabaret in this exciting program. Throughout July and August, over 60 new short works will be performed between seven strands, in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. A further 10 plays will be presented in Townsville, during November. That’s nearly 12 hours of performance, 10 minutes at a time! Hold on tight as you are rocketed along a roller coaster ride of dramatic pursuits by seeing up to ten plays or six cabaret acts, each less than ten minutes long, then vote for your favourite to send them through to the Gala Finals. A lot can happen in ten minutes… and we’re here to prove it.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Artists can apply to be a part of the Short+Sweet Festival in one of five ways: Writers submit a copy of their 10-minute script for assessment. Directors submit a CV for consideration. Independent Theatre Companies submit a proposal for their 10-minute work. Cabaret Artists submit a pitch for their 10-minute cabaret act. Actors register to attend an open audition for all directors and ITCs. From the applications, we curate an exciting lineup of local performance makers to present their work at the festival. These works are presented over four weeks in seven strands. During each strand, anonymous industry judges will view and assess the performances. Audiences are also given the opportunity to nominate their favourite work to send through to the Gala Finals. From each strand, one or more works will be selected to present at the Gala Finals. This lineup will be performed twice more at the beginning of September in the Powerhouse Theatre. At the conclusion of the performances, awards will be presented to individuals and groups for recognition of excellence.

96 Albert St, Brisbane | 3229 6929 | tpac.edu.au The Performing Arts Conservatory first opened its doors in 1993. Since then hundreds of students have successfully graduated from our Advanced Diploma of Screen and Stage Acting. With the release of our two new courses - Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media, The Performing Arts Conservatory is also now Australia’s first 3D and 2D film school. Our Advanced Diploma of Commercial Song and Dance Performance, for the music video industry is a course never seen before and fills a gap in the market no one else can deliver. This move means we now have the opportunity to offer three unique courses, working collaboratively on the same CBD premises! More highly anticipated courses are planned for the very near future for the continuing growth of the Performing Arts Conservatory.
