Welcome to the second edition of the Esplora Education Programme! This handbook guides you through a scholastic year full of carefully designed activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, all of which have been developed in line with the National Curriculum Framework and subject syllabi. We promise to deliver a memorable learning experience for your students. With over 200 interactive exhibits, 23 hands-on workshops, 6 live science shows, 6 artistic performances and workshops, and 7 to organising your school visit. From the early years through to post-secondary, we’ve got it covered. New to this year’s programme is the inclusion of combos, where schools can choose to do multiple activities in one visit.
programme bringing STEAM, a 21st calendar includes thematic events, some of which extend over the weekend; exclusive Toi Toi packages on Sundays; seasonal activities, and evening events reserved for adults only. Esplora’s signature team building event Science Quest and 8 Continuing Professional Development regular Teacher Tours organised throughout the year in preparation for your school visit and learn how we are adopting inquiry-based learning at Esplora.
ready to support you in making the best choice of activities for your students. We look forward to greeting you at Esplora to explore, think, imagine, create and appreciate with us. Director of Esplora Interactive Science Centre Ms. Rachael Blackburn
The Core Ideology is the point of reference against which decisions are taken at ESPLORA. It encompasses our Vision, Mission and Values which guide all the roles and departments to work united as a team.
OUR VISION The Vision comprises our long-term aspirations for Esplora. The aim of Esplora is to make skills within their daily activities, including making science-based choices continuously.
CULTIVATE A CULTURE OF SCIENTIFIC
CURIOSITY AND CREATIVITY OUR MISSION Our Mission, to ignite a passion for questioning, investigation and discovery by which Esplora realises its Core Ideology. The 5 E’s learning model, whereby all visitors build their own understanding from experiences and new ideas, is embraced as part of the inquiry-based learning (IBL) approach being adopted in Esplora’s non-formal education context. Each of the 5 E’s describes a phase of learning: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate. The adoption of the IBL approach, allows visitors to engage in common activities, to use and build on prior knowledge and experience, to construct meaning, and to continually assess their understanding of a concept in a fun environment. The various activities are all intended to nurture enthusiasm for the most fundamental science processes. Visiting Esplora is a contender as a leisure activity option on

GAME-BASED LEARNING WORKSHOP Game-based learning (GBL) is more than playing games. GBL includes playful games. Through this workshop, we aim to get educators involved in GBL, and encourage them to embed GBL in their teaching approach. Educators will have time to experiment and explore various games, improve their gaming knowledge and fully understand the impact and potential of using GBL.
