Land of Africa The African landscape is a beautiful place where elephants roam freely and happily. They share this peaceful space together with the local villagers. Many beautiful stories of love and loyalty were told based on their respect for each other.

One beautiful story was about a young boy by the name of Dayo. His name represents joy because he was always laughing throughout the day. It was no surprise that he brought a lot of joy to the whole village.

A Friendly Elephant One day, Dayo and his mother went to the riverfront to collect some water for cooking. This was the happiest time of the day for him because he knew there will be a herd of elephants drinking and playing there.

Dayo immediately recognised a baby elephant playing by the river. They always play “catch and chase” together as they are the best of friends. Soon, the baby elephant was already running as fast as he could away from Dayo and decides to jump into the river to prevent getting caught. Not knowing how strong the river current was, the baby elephant was quickly swept away.

Helping Hand Dayo shouted for help, while the baby elephant grabs a branch with his short trunk. Dayo didn't want his best friend to get hurt and decides to jump into the river to help. They eventually found themselves struggling to get out.

Luckily, Dayo’s mother saw what was happening and called out for help. The herd of elephants nearby rushed over and started working together to lift the two best friends out with their long trunks. At that time, the villagers nearby arrived to witness what was happening.

Respecting Others One of the elephants gently carried Dayo with her trunk and placed him next to his mother, and all the villagers rejoiced with happiness.

Dayo’s father, who was also the village chief, was so grateful for the elephant’s kindness that he went on to announce - ‘Now that we understand an elephant’s compassion and their ability to help another kind, other than their own, we shall learn from them and respect them’.

Ever since then, the elephants had their place amongst the village community. They lived happily together with love and mutual respect for each other.
