Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!!

2018 From

Kim

and

Tai

Dear Family and Friends, poets, writers and non-writers alike: 2018 has been a busy busy time for Kim and me but the year is ending a bit more calmly than it started. The year swung into gear with making a life style change with me taking on a part-time job as Maintenance Manager for our downtown Toronto church. Three half-time days; Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, turned into a few more hours than I expected. This with travel time to and from work and to and from Presqu’ile the new job ate into a lot of time that I was used to spending on Hidden Brook Press. All year I was in frantic catchup mode trying to stay on top of publishing contracts that I already had lined up. This new job was coupled with us buying a condo in the east end of Toronto – 1.5 hours from Presqu’ile. We sold our rental house in Brighton and traded it in for a two bedroom condo with great facilities and two parking spots. Let us know when you would like to come for a swim, a soak in in the hot tub or sauna, or have a game of squash or pool. Our niece Krista Deverson is a realtor and was immensely patient with us as we trudged her to over 20 condos before we found one that had the facilities that we liked. 5 Greystone Walk Drive is our ½ time home now. We are so happy with our new condo. The 2018 summer was busy for us. We ramped up our B&B business in Presqu’ile by signing on to AirB&B. We always had B&B guests for the past ten or fifteen years but this past summer we were swamped for all three seasons. Thank heavens the winter is a slow time of year. Come and visit anytime. We don’t charge family and friends. Kim was teaching private classes – creative writing – to a small group of dedicated students. Those classes will resume in the new year sometime and have her joyfully busy teaching again. Her new book of poetry “Where the Heart Lies” shared with three other authors was released this year and was launched in Toronto at the “2018 CCLA Art and Lit Fest”. Kim hopes to finish, in 2019, a book that she was contracted to write about an art school that ran for 20 years in north eastern Ontario. She is always busy with one writing project or another. Hidden Brook Press has been very busy this year. I started a new series of poetry books called “The John B. Lee Signature Series”, all of which are edited by one of Canada’s

best poets, friend, John B. Lee. We launched the first three books this past summer and are working on the next three for a spring launch. I published two more books as part of the “North Shore Series”. We will launch them in 2019 sometime. In total I published about eight books this year. Not bad for a one-man band. One of those was the CCLA anthology “The Dream, The Glory and The Strife” which was a big success, also launched with Kim’s book at the CCLA Art and Lit Fest. We were both published in that book.

I was honoured to be included, with one of my poems and two of my photographs, in “Tamaracks: Canadian Poetry for the 21st Century” published by Lummox Press form California, USA.

I am mega pleased that they also used my photograph on the cover of the “Lummox” periodical . And then to top it all off of my work was included in “Beyond Forgetting: Celebrating 100 years of Al Purdy”. And then the icing to top it all is my book of poems published with John B. Lee was released this past year by a publisher in India. If you brush up on your Hindi you can read the poems in both English and Hindi. I almost forgot to tell you that we have published the second issue

of our Canadian culture magazine, “Devour: Art and Lit Canada. It is on line at: https://issuu.com/richardgrove1/docs/devour_-_issue_002_-_high_res. It is more than a poetry or literary magazine. I am sure you will find something interesting. In fact see the article written by our realtor niece, Krista. Daughters, Rebecca and Sarah and our grandsons, Lionel and Nico respectively, are thriving. Lionel loves the pool at the condo. Mother, at the age of 90, is doing very well. She is still mobile enough that we take her out for dinner when we visit. She loves getting out. She is always cheerful, happy and content.

In a couple of weeks we are heading for a couple of weeks in Cuba. While we are there Kim and I both have writing and editing projects to do but what a wonderful way to get paid while sipping a pina colada while sitting under a palm tree.
