Designed by medical students for medical students. The RCOG has joined forces with the British Undergraduate Society for O&G (BUSOG) to create a day designed to give you a taste of what O&G has to offer, as well as offering you tips on how to make the most of your undergraduate experience. The day will feature lecture-based presentations as well as advice zones on specific issues. There will also be hands-on workshops for you to try out some of the many practical aspects of O&G, facilitated by a selection of O&G’s Specialist Societies.

The RCOG Careers Day for Junior Doctors is specifically designed for those making their applications to specialist training. The day will feature lecture-based presentations designed to give you an idea of what working in O&G involves as well as practical advice on the application process. There will also be advice zones on specific issues and clinicians from all levels will be available to answer any questions you may have. The day will finish with a selection of hands-on workshops and there will be stands, facilitated by a selection of O&G’s Specialist Societies, where you can try out some of the many practical aspects of O&G and find out about the wide range of areas O&G covers.

The RCOG’s membership examination is the gold standard qualification for obstetricians and gynaecologists. With over 5000 candidates sitting our Part 1 and Part 2 MRCOG examinations each year, we have designed a series of revision courses to help candidates achieve their MRCOG. The MRCOG Final Preparation series includes our Part 1 Revision Course, Part 2 Revision Course, OSCE Revision Course and Intensive OSCE Revision Course. We also run a programme of theoretical courses to support ATSMs, including: Early Pregnancy and Gynaecological Ultrasound, Benign Abdominal Surgery, Post Reproductive Health, and Diagnostic and Operative Hysteroscopy. Remember ATSM theoretical courses are valid for three years and must be completed prior to completion of the practical component of the ATSMs.

RCOG Basic Practical Skills in O&G Various 2015 The RCOG Basic Practical Skills course (BPS) is designed to introduce trainees to safe surgical techniques and obstetric clinical skills, in a structured workshop environment. The course is standardised to ensure common objectives, content structure and assessment methods are followed and can be linked to the RCOG Training Portfolio and OSATS. Redesigned in 2014, the new two-day format enables trainees to focus on hands-on skills while in the classroom, by introducing pre-course eLearning materials including videos and assessments. The course also looks at the increasingly important topic of human factors and enhanced recovery principles, complementing the new RCOG curriculum.

Part 1 MRCOG Revision Course

MRCOG Final Preparation: Part 2 Written

12–16 January / 6–10 July 2015

This five-day course focuses on revision for the Part 1 MRCOG exam and offers a comprehensive programme of lectures covering all components of the exam. There is extensive exposure to typical exam questions, including many practice MCQ sessions, plus general advice about preparing for, and taking the exam as well as advice from the RCOG Examinations team.

In March 2015 the MRCOG Part 2 Written exam will be changing its format. The two written papers will consist of Single Best Answer Questions (SBAs) and Extended Matching Questions (EMQs). The RCOG will be holding the first Part 2 MRCOG Revision Course in January 2015 at the College, which focuses on polishing your exam technique to improve your chances of passing the NEW written papers. The course is developed and taught by experienced MRCOG examiners, you will have tutorials about the new exam question formats and ample opportunity to practise SBAs and EMQs. This course will map the RCOG core curriculum and the examination syllabus; you will also have lectures from experts about current developments and hot topics in key curriculum areas. Places are strictly limited to 50, so we recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment.

MRCOG Final Preparation: Intensive OSCE 7–8 May 2015

This OSCE course focuses on improving exam technique to maximise your chances of passing the OSCE exam and being awarded your Membership to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. This one-day course is unique in giving you 3 full OSCE circuits with experienced MRCOG examiners. You will receive individual feedback on each station from the examiners. In the OSCE, the actors can award up to 4 marks and you will receive feedback from the actors to help you improve your communication skills. You will also receive a DVD of your performance in one of the role play stations to help you reflect on your strengths and identify areas for change. There are a maximum of 30 places per day

This two-day OSCE course focuses on developing the communication skills that are the key to OSCE success. You will work one-to-one with examiners and in small groups with experienced actors to improve your technique. This course is limited to 20 candidates and is aimed specifically at candidates who have the knowledge and ability to pass the written papers only to fail the OSCE due to communication errors. Candidates that haven’t practised O&G in the UK will particularly benefit from attending this course.

Annual Academic Meeting

Essential Obstetric Ultrasound

21–23 January 2015

This meeting showcases the entire spectrum of academic research in O&G. Expanded to a 3 day meeting, the exciting programme feature a wide range of speakers from new scientists to well renowned researchers covering all aspects of research, from both NHS and academia. The meeting incorporates the Blair Bell Research Competition where researchers present their work both in oral and poster presentations chosen from submitted abstracts.

The RCOG curriculum now requires that all trainees have practical training in basic obstetric ultrasound, comprising two modules on early pregnancy ultrasound (8-12 weeks) and ultrasound assessment of fetal size, liquor and the placenta. The two practical modules require a sound theoretical basis, which this course is designed to offer. It will also serve as the basis for those trainees developing their skills further with the intermediate ultrasound modules both in O&G.

Manual Vacuum Aspiration Training Course

Masterclass in Management of PPH

This half-day, hands-on training course focuses on outpatient surgical management of miscarriage and therapeutic abortion.This practical course covers equipment, the procedure, analgesia and the outpatient setting for trainers in outpatient uterine surgical evacuation who have not had access to training with this equipment. There will be two sessions held on Thursday 12 February, the first will commence at 8.30am and the second at 1.00pm. Delegates can select to attend either the morning session or afternoon session. Places on this course are strictly limited to 24 per session.

A one-day workshop where delegates can learn about recent innovative topics relevant to management of Massive Obstetric Haemorrhage (MOH). This is combined with a hands-on workshop featuring practical clinical tips from world known experts on uterine compression sutures and balloon tamponade, including a new innovative station on clinically applied anatomy relevant to MOH.

RCOG Operative Birth Simulation Training (ROBuST): Training the Trainers Course

Laparoscopic Urogynaecology

From 2015, the RCOG Operative Birth Simulation Training Course will be delivered locally, as part of the RCOG franchised courses programme. This training the trainers course is designed to train faculty, who are planning to deliver RCOG Operative Birth Simulation Training in their own hospitals or units. The aim is to provide instruction and hands-on practice in all methods of operative vaginal birth (both nonrotational and rotational) to facilitate the achievement of the OSAT competencies on the RCOG training matrix. Techniques for performing a caesarean section at full dilatation are also covered. The course consists of short lectures, hands-on workshops and small group discussions on teamwork and communication. As part of the course pack, delegates will receive the ROBuST Training the Trainers manual.

This brand new one–day course will cover the theoretical aspects of laparoscopic urogynaecology which is increasingly being used in the management of urogynaecological conditions. Established experts will explain the types of procedures available, techniques employed and indication for procedures. Each session will end with a panel discussion allowing you to discuss the topics covered.

Cancellations

Please select the rate that genuinely applies to your current post. Checks will be carried out to ensure delegates are booking at the appropriate rate.

All cancellations must be received in writing by the Conference Office a minimum of 2 weeks before the meeting (except Basic Practical Skills Courses, which must be received at least 6 weeks prior to the course). A standard administrative charge of £25 will be made on all cancellations received 2 weeks or more prior to the conference. We regret that refunds cannot be issued on cancellations received less than two weeks prior to the conference. No refunds will be made for non-attendance on the course. An administrative charge of £50 applies to certain meetings, including Basic Practical Skills Courses, Part 1 MRCOG Revision Courses, Part 2 MRCOG Revision and OSCE Courses. Please check your confirmation letter for clarification. Substitutions are welcome at any time.
