The No. 2 Owens Express women’s basketball team, having already clinched the conference championship, will look for their 29th straight win in today’s regular season finale.
Express Notes Postseason Preparation: Regardless of today’s outcome, Owens will open postseason play next Friday against the winner of Sinclair and Lakeland in the Region XII District I semifinals. Carlisle’s Back: LaKayra Carlisle, who missed six games early in the conference season (including the first game against Cincinnati State) will be in the lineup today. She averages 8.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. 25 Plus: Owens has now won 25 or more games in each of the past six seasons. Since the start of the 2009-10 season, Owens is 161-29 (.847) overall and 66-9 (.880) in conference play. Most Wins: With a win today, Owens would tie the 1997-98 team for most single season wins in program history. Sophomore Day: Owens will honors its five sophomores prior to today’s women’s game.
It will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Owens defeated Cincinnati State 89-70 on the road Jan. 31 and led by as many as 24 in the second half. The Express will be looking to extend multiple streaks - a 28 game overall winning streak, a 43 game home regular season winning streak and a 21 game regular season conference winning streak. All three are program records.
Series History Owens is 22-33 all-time against Cincinnati State, including a 10-12 mark at home. Head coach Mike Llanas is 9-15 overall against Cincinnati State, but 5-1 over the past six meetings. A big reason for the all-time history favoring Cincinnati State is a 19-1 stretch from Jan. 15, 1999 to Jan. 6, 2007. Outside of that period, Owens is 21-14 against Cincinnati State.

Surge Notes Post Presence: Jonessa Moore, the team’s starting center, is averaging a team-high 22.2 points and 11.4 rebounds per game in conference play. A transfer from Ball State University, Moore didn’t play a game with the team until Jan. 14 and hasn’t scored fewer than 14 points in any of her 11 games this year. All-Around PG Threat: Samia Carter, the team’s starting point guard, is hurting opponents in multiple areas. In the team’s 91-34 win over Lakeland, she produced a triple-double. In conference play, Carter has six games of double digit points, five games of double digit assists, three games of double digit rebounds and six games of three or more steals. Foursome: In conference play, Cincinnati State has four players averaging in double figures in points. Moore (22.2) is followed by Jada Jackson (12.1 PPG), Carter (10.8 PPG) and Kasia Cicha (10.8 PPG).
