TODAY’S MATCHUP

NOTES

- Welcome to this afternoon’s regular season finale between your No. 2 Owens Express and the visiting Cincinnati State Surge. Both games of today’s doubleheader are being streamed on our YouTube page, which can be found by searching Owens Express Athletics. - Owens, which has already wrapped up its fifth consecutive outright OCCAC championship, can secure the first undefeated regular season in Owens athletics history with a win today. They are also looking to secure a third straight perfect OCCAC regular season. - Today will mark the 61st time these two rivals have met since 1992-93. Cincinnati State holds a 33-27 advantage in the series, due in large part to a 19-1 record from Jan. 15, 1999 to Jan. 6, 2007. Outside of that stretch, Owens holds a 26-14 record all-time. More recently, Owens has won 10 of the past 11 matchups, although many games have been close. That one loss? A 71-64 defeat in the district championship game on March 8, 2014. Owens is 92-9 since that loss. Head coach Mike Llanas is 14-15 all-time in the series. - Owens is looking for a regular season sweep of Cincinnati State after picking up a 76-55 victory on Jan. 28 behind a 25-9 second quarter, Brenda Pennington’s 18 second half points, Kaylah Ivey’s 15 rebounds and Jeryn Reese’s double-double. The team also shot 11Head Coach: Head Coach: for-21 from 3-point range to overcome a season-high 26 turnovers. - Aside from a perfect regular season, Owens also has four winning Mike Llanas (13th Yr.)
