Express Notes

Title On The Line: Beginning with today’s game, Owens has two regular season games left before postseason play begins. Thanks to Cincinnati State’s win over Lakeland yesterday, Owens controls its own destiny if it wants to claim at least a share of the OCCAC title. Record Breaker: With his three made free throws last game, John Murry is now the program’s career leader in free throws made with 262. He broke Jeff Massey’s record of 260 from 1991-93. He is 10 attempts away from breaking Massey’s attempts record, as well. Murry, who recently eclipsed 1,000 career points, has 1,037 in his two years. Century Mark: Owens has scored at least 100 points in 14 games this year. As a team, they are averaging 97.1 points per game, which is second best in the nation. Home Conference Streak: Dating back to the 2012-13 season, Owens has won 12 consecutive home conference games.

The Owens offense will look for its fifth straight and 15th game overall this year with 100 or more points. They are second in the nation in scoring at 97.1 points per game. Owens controls its own destiny to win at least a share of the conference championship as they are tied with Cincinnati State and Lakeland in the loss column atop the OCCAC. Should they win today, they would set up a showdown in the regular season finale with Cincinnati State next Saturday. Cougars Notes New Athletics Website: Columbus State debuted a new athletic website, CSCCCougars.com, earlier this week. They are the third team in the conference to debut a Presto website (Owens, Sinclair). Rhodes Factor: Matthew Rhodes had a team-high 14 points, while making 4-for6 from 3-point range, in the first matchup against Owens on Jan. 24. On the season, he is the team’s leading scorer at 17.9 per game on 45.1 percent shooting from the field, which includes a 45 percent mark from 3-point range. In conference play, Rhodes has upped his scoring to 20.3 per game and is shooting almost 50 percent (49.5) from 3-point range. Tough Stretch: Columbus State enters today on a four game losing streak, and they have lost eight the past nine games. In their last game, however, they only lost by three points to Cincinnati State, who took down conference leader Lakeland 75-74 yesterday.
