Express Notes Final Game At Home? If Owens wins today, it will mark the final home game for six sophomores, including four sophomores who have played two years at Owens in John Murry, Shaakir Lindsey, Kenny Jones and Edmond Early Jr. Record Breaker: John Murry is now the program’s career leader in free throws made with 262, breaking Jeff Massey’s record of 260 from 1991-93. He is 10 attempts away from breaking Massey’s attempts record, as well. Murry, who recently eclipsed 1,000 career points, has 1,050 in 60 career games. Century Mark: Owens has scored at least 100 points in 15 games this year, including the past five in which they are averaging 112 PPG. In conference play, they are averaging 99.5 points per game. Home Conference Streak: Dating back to the 2012-13 season, Owens has won 13 consecutive home conference games.

Owens and Cincinnati State are currently tied atop the conference standings with Lakeland. The winner of today’s game gets at least a share of the title, or could win it outright should Lakeland lose to Columbus State today. The winner of today’s game is also guaranteed a bye in the district tournament quarterfinals. The Owens offense will look for its sixth straight and 16th game overall this year with 100 or more points. They are second in the nation in scoring at 97.3 points per game. In conference play, Owens averages 99.5 per game.

Surge Notes Cardiac Kids: Cincinnati State has won five games in conference play by three points or fewer. In two of the past three games, sophomore James Kilpatrick hit game-winning shots in the final minute. In the 75-74 win over Lakeland, Kilpatrick hit a floater in the paint with less than a second left. Anderson On Fire: Grover Anderson, a freshman guard, is the reigning OCCAC player of the week. In two games last week, he averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, two steals and 1.5 assists. In conference play, he is the team’s leading scorer at 15.5 per game, while adding 5.4 rebounds per game. Four In Double Figures: In conference play, Cincinnati State has four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Anderson. In addition to him, Cory Smith is at 12.6 per game, Nick Barnes is at 12.5 per game and Davion Ashe is at 10.7 per game.
