Express Notes Murry’s Award: Sophomore John Murry was named the OCCAC player of the week on Tuesday. He had 27 points and 15 rebounds in an 88-79 win over Sinclair on Saturday. He helped lead the team back from a 15-point deficit late in the first half. Milestone: Murry is on pace to eclipse 1,000 career points. He is currently at 867 and is averaging 18.1 PPG in his two-year career. OT Love: Owens finished the first half of the season with three OT games, two of which went to double OT. They are 2-1 in them. Offensive Prowess: Owens is averaging 95.1 points per game and shooting 47.5 percent from the field as a team. They have 12 games of at least 90 or more points, seven of which have seen at least 100 points. Depth: Owens has five players averaging double figures in scoring, while another is at 9.9 PPG and four others are at almost 5 PPG.

Cuyahoga has a new coaching staff and an improved team, led by Cairo Brown (17.8 PPG), Robert Fomby (16.8 PPG) and Marquis Jackson (15.5 PPG). Also, Jalen Stewart and Conor Mabry nearly have 10 PPG each. Owens, meanwhile, features five players averaging double figures, led by John Murry (19.5 PPG) and Shaakir Lindsey (17.7 PPG).

Last Year’s Results Owens swept the season series from Cuyahoga last year with 83-68 and 87-72 victories.

Challengers Notes Unfriendly December: After winning the first six games of the season in November, Cuyahoga opened December with three straight losses, including two in overtime by a combined six points. Since then, however, Cuyahoga has won four of five including its season opener over Columbus State on Saturday. Brown Factor: The team’s leading scorer, Cairo Brown, is averaging 17.8 PPG. He earned OCCAC and national player of the week honors earlier this season. Blank Slate, Almost: Cuyahoga returns only one player from last year’s team, Gary Brun. Another player, Conor Mabry, played two years ago for Cuyahoga before taking last year off. Overall, the team features 10 players not on last year’s team. Conference Honors: In addition to Cairo Brown, Robert Fomby has also been selected as an OCCAC player of the week earlier this season. OT Bonanza: Cuyahoga has played four OT games this year and has a 2-2 record in those games.
