His office in the Williams-Branch Biblical Studies Center is typical of a university dean and Christian professor. The shelves are maxed out with books. The desk is organized. The calendar is full. There are numerous framed diplomas and a picture captioned “love, faith and hope” on the wall. But there also are regal Egyptian-looking chairs and a decidedly African theme … and when you hear Dr. Martin speak, you know that he’s not “from” here. Dr. Martin, the dean of OC’s College of Biblical Studies, is from South Africa. In addition to his duties as dean, he teaches one of OC’s most popular classes, Christian Family. Course topics range from selecting a spouse to finances to raising kids. It also addresses divorce and remarriage. “There’s no sugar coating,” he said. Prior to coming to OC in 2006, Dr. Martin was the Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic administrator and coordinator at Michigan State University. When he was a doctoral student at Michigan State, God brought Martin together with Sudanese refugees who had immigrated from their war-torn country. He became mentor, counselor and friend to these young men. The Sudanese refugees had survived such terror as
witnessing one or both of their parents being murdered, having their own lives threatened, and running to escape the killers. He expected to find the students suffering from posttraumatic stress. But what he found was resilience … and eventually, a new topic for his dissertation. That dissertation is now a groundbreaking document used by organizations throughout the United States that provide counseling and services to refugees. In addition to his role at OC, Dr. Martin has served as the coordinator and administrator of the Community Outreach Program for Edmond Church of Christ. He has had his own private marriage and family therapy practice, and has conducted many marriage and family seminars at congregations throughout Oklahoma and Texas. As providence would have it, Dr. Martin came to Oklahoma Christian at the same time the university welcomed its first group of presidential scholars from Rwanda. These students are all survivors of the 1994 genocide and the years of ensuing violence. Most of them were young children when the genocide occurred. They all lost someone. Majors and non-majors alike learn from experienced ministers and professors with degrees from Oxford, Stanford, Princeton, Notre Dame, Baylor, Brown, Wheaton and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, to name a few. In addition to biblical scholarship, students have hands-on ministry prospects through a vocational ministry second major and through mission campaigns. OC also offers M.A. and M.Div. programs through the Graduate School of Theology, providing students with opportunities to further their education on the graduate level. OC’s American Marketing Association chapter was recognized for Excellence in Community Service at the AMA’s international conferences in 2009 and 2010. Oklahoma Christian’s School of Education has produced countless alumni who were successful in the classroom. OC’s program has the second-highest certification exam pass rate in Oklahoma. OC’s education programs are accredited by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Space Shuttle Atlantis roars to life on Launch Pad 39A, set on a path to link with the international space station. Smoke billows beneath the shuttle as the final seconds tick down. Millions of gallons of water rush to deafen the sound. As the crowd stands three miles away, the closest anyone is allowed, the sound shakes the onlookers and sets off every car alarm within miles.

One of the spectators is OC graduate Diana Oglesby, a rising star at NASA. The launch of Atlantis in the summer of 2011 was her 17th (and final) shuttle launch to attend. NASA is discontinuing the shuttle program and focusing on a new era of space exploration. “I look back and marvel at the significant contributions the space shuttle program has made in our lives. I am both proud and blessed to have been a part of the team that made it happen,” Diana said. “I will always remember the moments when I had the magnificent opportunity to feel the rumble in my chest and the exhilaration of a shuttle lifting off into space. It will definitely be sad to see it retire, but working here has truly been the ride of a lifetime.” Diana’s love for NASA began long before she came to Oklahoma Christian to pursue a degree in computer science. When she was eight, she told her father she would someday work there. A mural of an astronaut
floating in space hung on her bedroom wall. In 2002, following her junior year at OC, Diana was chosen as one of 36 students out of 5,000 applicants nationwide to take part in NASA’s summer internship program. That internship quickly led to her dream job. NASA recently promoted her to a job as Applications Portfolio Manager at Kennedy Space Center. “Diana is the standard by which the next generation of up-and-coming leaders will be measured against,” said Jerry Davis, NASA’s former deputy chief information officer for IT security. “She has all the critical attributes required to lead any enterprise.” The preparation Diana received at OC has benefitted her at NASA. Her education focused not only on the general understanding of software and computer algorithms, but also on the aspects of teamwork and group dynamics. “I think the greatest experience you Video Diana talks can learn at college is how to work with about her a team and how to work with people,” she experience said. “You can do all the studying you with NASA. want to learn the material and gain book smarts, but that won’t help you as much in the real world as simply understanding people and knowing how to work as a team.” //By Allison Shumate & Wes McKinzie

OC is one of just two universities in the 116-school Council of Christian Colleges and Universities with three ABET-accredited engineering programs, meaning our programs meet or exceed the standards of a rigorous set of engineer-defined criteria. OC graduates are highly sought by leading companies for their technical and project management skills. Core courses in heat transfer, machine design, and systems design, plus a thermal-fluids lab, highlight a rigorous degree program. OC also offers a master’s degree in engineering. OC’s mechanical engineering students pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam at a significantly higher rate than the national average of 73%. Our mechanical engineering design teams placed second and fourth at separate regional competitions in 2011. You can’t learn everything in a lecture. You also learn by observing, and as your grandpa might have encouraged, by rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty. Well, maybe you should wear gloves when it comes to lab work. And protective eye gear, something you probably learned in a lecture or two from your mom. With the new Kim Gaither Center for Biology and Noble Science Wing now open at OC, undergraduate students have their very own space to pursue research. OC has earned the reputation in the higher ed and research communities as being a primo place for undergraduate research. It’s also one of the only undergrad labs around. The lab gives students their own domain to grow specimens, test theories and evaluate data without being kicked out over scheduling conflicts. “When students are involved in research, they tell me that their classroom experience becomes more interesting. It makes it three-dimensional, so the information comes off the page,” said Dr. Tim VanWagoner, chair of OC’s Department of Biology. “They understand it and are more excited about science.” In the process, students gain critical thinking and problem solving skills, which will pay off not only in
their education, but in their careers and lives. Dr. VanWagoner said it’s important for students to have a research mindset because many professional programs – medicine, physical therapy, pharmacy, physician’s assistant and others – require it. A bonus to OC students is the excellent reputation, along with genuine respect, that OC faculty enjoy with the OU Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, and private research businesses. These relationships help OC students with research, internships and future careers. “We have really great students,” Dr. VanWagoner said. “Our job is to help them understand just what they are capable of. Some students will someday be true leaders in their field, but don’t realize it yet.” That’s good mentoring from someone who wore his own undergrad lab coat at OC. His own early experiences in research prompted Tim VanWagoner to pursue graduate school. Now, he’s the teacher … and a published researcher doing important work at OC and on the faculty at OUHSC in bacterial pathogenesis that could lead to a vaccine to help with ear and lung infections in children. Nursing www.oc.edu/nursing Whether they’re in the mountains of Honduras, the biggest hospital in Oklahoma, or a free clinic in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Christian’s nursing students learn while they serve. The nursing program’s rotations take students all over the world. They might help deliver a baby, teach sanitation, and deliver life-saving oral rehydration therapy all in one week. OC’s Department of Nursing has the backing of one of the best science faculties in the state, and access to abundant facilities in the Oklahoma City metro area and other large cities nearby where students can gain real-world experience. International rotations provide experiences not available in other programs. The Department of Biology also prepares students for professional programs in dental hygiene, occupational or physical therapy, and pharmacy. Over the last five years, 95% of OC biology graduates who have applied to medical, graduate and other professional schools have been accepted. OC students reap the benefits of undergraduate research opportunities in the Oklahoma City metro area. Underclassmen regularly earn acceptance into the highly-competitive Summer Undergraduate Research Experience at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. OC’s Department of Chemistry & Physics features degree programs in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Forensic Science, and Science Education. Undergraduate research is a key component, and students have won frequent awards and have strong placement rates; more than 80% of chemistry graduates over the past six years have entered graduate programs in chemistry or chemical engineering. Students regularly engage in research in labs designed for undergraduate research projects. Several students have published papers nationally and regionally. In the quarter-century since she played on three conference championship teams at Oklahoma Christian, Sherri Coale has become one of OC’s most high-profile graduates, thanks to her success as the University of Oklahoma’s women’s hoops coach. Former OC head coach Max Dobson says, “It was kind of like God meant for her to be here.” A handful of small colleges and junior colleges recruited Sherri, but it didn’t take long for her to decide on OC after Dobson offered her a scholarship. “Oklahoma Christian was an easy choice – the academic environment, its church affiliation and what it stood for philosophically. And the basketball program was fantastic, too,” she said. She earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors as the Lady Eagles’ starting point guard, then went on to win two state titles as head coach of nearby Norman High School. Her last two Norman teams went 53-2. She became OU’s head coach at age 31. She’s led the Sooners to 10 Big 12 championships (six regular season and four postseason), 13 straight NCAA tournament appearances and three Final Fours, including the 2002 national championship game. She credits much of her success to her time at Oklahoma Christian. “When you go away from home and go to college, that’s when you formulate your own set of values and
principles and decide how you want to live your life. I was fortunate to be surrounded by great people who made great impressions on me,” Sherri said. “I had a fantastic basketball experience. I got an education that I didn’t realize was as special as it was until I went on to get my master’s degree. I felt so prepared.” While she may be most well known for her basketball success, Sherri’s teams boast a combined GPA of 3.0 or better virtually every year. Four of her teams have been named to the Top 25 WBCA Academic Team Honor Roll. Her players have a combined 85 all-conference academic honors during her tenure. The Sooners are involved in numerous outreach efforts. One of Sherri’s assistant coaches, former OC teammate Jan Ross, helped lead a mission trip to Haiti after an earthquake devastated that impoverished country. That outreach initiative won the United Nations NGO Positive Peace Award. The phrase “blood, sweat and tears” conveys hard work, passion and grit. The same is true for MUD, sweat and tears. Just ask two OC alumni who trudged through extremely muddy conditions on the ABC Extreme Makeover Home Edition “set” in Lexington, Oklahoma. Steve Shoemaker graduated from OC in 2000 with a degree in public relations/advertising. As the marketing director for Ideal Homes, he was “the go-to guy” on the project that transformed an ice- and rain-soaked cattle pasture into a sodded, landscaped yard and beautiful new home in just a week. Fellow OC alumnus Mike Osburn, who owns a political consulting, government relations and association management firm, worked with Shoemaker and Ideal Homes as the volunteer coordinator for the massive project. If you are a fan of the TV show, you know that more goes into the production than what host Ty Pennington and his crew can accomplish. For this episode, Ideal Homes led the charge to build a new home for a family that fell on hard financial times when their baby required a heart transplant. Osburn, who graduated from OC in 1990 with a degree in history/pre-law, said it took less than three days to recruit more than 1,000 volunteers. They helped from the initial “Braveheart Walk” to the final “Move That Bus!” moment. Donations poured in from
all over the area. Osburn worked for former Oklahoma governor Frank Keating during the 1995 bombing in Oklahoma City. He is familiar with that giving spirit that has been dubbed “The Oklahoma Standard.” “The people of Oklahoma are good and caring and will collectively drop what they’re doing – even if it means trudging through knee-deep mud and sub-freezing temperatures – to help people in need,” Osburn said. “The Oklahoma Standard isn’t tangible. You can just feel it. I felt it while I was on Gov. Keating’s staff in 1995 and I felt it on the set of Extreme Makeover Home Edition.” The same could be said about the “OC standard.” A big group of OC students were among the many Extreme Makeover volunteers. And from the student-led Wishing Well Video Alumni project to provide water in Africa, to assist ABC’s legions of alumni who dedicate their lives Extreme and careers to service around the world, Makeover. this standard is part of who we are. “As a believer in Christ, you jump at every opportunity there is to touch someone’s life. OC’s Department of Communication is on the forefront of preparing students for a variety of careers in the field. Students also can hone their crafts through local and national internships. Students often win state, regional and national contests. OC’s chapter of the National History Honor Society has received a national Best Chapter Award in its category for 16 straight years. Listen to your mother. Travis Bow did. She told the son she had homeschooled most of his life that he might like mechanical engineering. He was thinking about majoring in English because he enjoyed writing, but she told him that mechanical engineers got to build things and take them apart to see how they work. He checked into it and, sure enough, Mom knew best. “I did listen to her advice, which was also to apply for colleges and scholarships often and early,” he said. Travis, who grew up in Reno, Nevada, got the best of both worlds at OC when it came to combining his curiosity about science and the way things work, along with his ability to write well. He was a National Merit Scholar finalist and was accepted into OC’s writing-intensive Honors Program. Travis says he was blessed to earn a full-tuition scholarship to OC … where he, indeed, majored in mechanical engineering. Fast forward four years. Cap and gown … worn. Capstone research projects … finished, including the construction of a machine that gyrated intensely to test the strength of metal. (“It was fun,” he said.) His degree … earned with honors. Travis spent the summer after graduation working at Orthocare Innovations (along with several other OC
alumni), a leading research organization in orthotics and prosthetics. Next step: Stanford University, where Travis now is in the prestigious master’s program in mechanical engineering. At Stanford, he is part of a design project team sponsored by Lockheed Martin. During his first year there, the team’s project was a ”configure-to-order” satellite chassis. Travis’ wife Laura, an OC electrical engineering graduate, worked for Boeing in Oklahoma City and now works with Space Systems Loral, a company headquartered in Silicon Valley that is one of the world leaders in commercial satellite manufacturing. Travis certainly got the full experience at OC and says he enjoyed every minute of it. He especially liked “polar bearing” – jumping into nearby Lake Arcadia during the occasional snow or ice storm – and playing a lot of pool, ping pong and intramural sports. Back when he was an incoming college freshman, Travis relied on his parents’ guidance and wisdom. His experiences and education at OC helped propel him to be the man, husband and graduate he is today. He has one piece of advice for anyone considering OC, engineering or the Honors Program: “Do it.” //By Dawn Shelton

Directed by Dr. Scott LaMascus (left), OC’s Honors Program provides an exceptional undergraduate experience for academic achievers who are eager to learn in Christian community. The program offers an Honors core curriculum in place of the general education core. The program is what the National Collegiate Honors Council calls the “most robust” model for Honors programs – a coherent, four-year experience built around integrated core courses designed exclusively for Honors students and taught by exceptional teacher-scholars. Professors encourage a high level of participation, foster considerable independent research, and mentor students in writing papers that demonstrate mature, scholarly thinking. Students are encouraged to accept intellectual challenges in order to understand and perform at the highest possible level; the program has a 100% acceptance rate into graduate schools the past two years. The majority of first-year and second-year students choose to live in Honors House at Davisson Hall, which offers a residential option for students seeking to reach their academic potential. Resident Mentors are successful Honors students for both the men’s and the women’s residential facilities. Tutorial, meeting, café, and activity spaces are included in a residence fully renovated in 2011. //Criteria for Honors Admission High school GPA of 3.5 or higher; ACT score of 28 or SAT of 1250 or higher (average ACT score is 31); evidence of strong writing and critical thinking. Oklahoma Christian offers master’s degree programs through its Graduate School of Business, Graduate School of Theology, and Graduate School of Engineering. In pursuing a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree, graduate students may focus their courses in one of nine areas: accounting, general business, electronic business, finance, health service management, international management, leadership and organizational development, marketing, and project management. The M.B.A. degree can be earned online or through on-campus classes. The Graduate School of Theology offers the Master of Arts in Ministry (M.A.) and the Master of Divinity (M.Div.). The M.A. prepares students for youth, family, or congregational ministry. The M.Div. equips students for ministry and the possibility of further academic study. This degree is usually required for military chaplaincy. The Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) degree prepares engineers for advanced engineering technology and science, leadership and management responsibilities. Students can choose tracks in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.

The view out the windows at 300 West 57th Street in New York City offers a view of the quintessential Big Apple with skyscrapers as far as the eye can see. The view inside the building is one of glamour, style and sophistication: racks of gorgeous high-fashion clothing, rows of beautiful shoes and every new beauty product imaginable. OC grad Amber Vanderzee enjoys both views from her desk at Harper’s Bazaar. Amber’s BFA in graphic design taught her everything from the basics in drawing of proportion and scale to the complex design skills she uses today as a design assistant for Harper’s Bazaar. As one of the youngest members of the Harper’s Bazaar team, Amber knows she has landed an incredible opportunity at a very young age. She doesn’t take it for granted. “I did a lot of working my way up while I was in school, ” she said. “Out of my four years at OC, I only had two semesters that lacked some form of internship.” Her journey to New York City began at a summer internship at a small radio station in South Dakota. The job included a trip to a radio convention, where
she made a contact that helped her score an internship with Billboard magazine. She began interning at Harper’s Bazaar in 2008 after her time at Billboard and another year at OC. She earned a job offer from Harper’s Bazaar just a month after graduation. Amber loves fashion. She never imagined having a job where you would ask your coworker, “Who has the Prada dress?” The position requires her to study and stay up on all the trends, something she would be doing anyway. In her role as a design assistant, Amber typically lays out five or six pages per issue. She also is in charge of the art for the pages. Amber’s transition from OC to NYC hasn’t been as difficult as some might think. She lives on the Upper East Side and rides the subway every day on her 45-minute commute. She has found good friends and support at Manhattan Church of Christ. She’s living a dream, but she’s still trying to decide what her dream job is. “I know for sure I want to be at a magazine,” she said. “But I think I have a while to figure it out.” //By Allison Shumate
High Class Musical
OC vocal performance major Ryan Gonzales took his music education to new heights recently with the opportunity to write a musical for the Cherokee Nation. The lyricist for the production, Janis Contway, wrote several musicals and plays based on the history of Edmond, the Oklahoma Land Run and more. “When Janis got a solid draft of the words, she contacted Oklahoma Christian looking for someone who would be able to write the music,” said Ryan, a junior from Katy, Texas. “Dr. Kathy Thompson, the chair of our music department, asked if I was interested because I had been really enthusiastic in showing her some orchestra songs I had written.” Contway decided to theme the musical around the Cherokee Trail of Tears. Ryan is composing the entire musical score. “The style Janis is looking for is very unique. She wants the music to sound very Cherokee, with the water drums and Indian flute, etc. But she also wants to use a full orchestra,” Ryan said. “The hardest part of my job is to mix the two cultures of music together to create a ‘new genre of music,’ as she likes to put it.”
Ryan spent much of his summer vacation the past two years working on the musical (along with serving as a counselor at a Christian camp). His music has been a hit with Contway. “I recorded the songs with me singing all the parts to show her what it could sound like with words and music together, and she fell in love with the way I brought to life what she had in her head,” Ryan said. Ryan is thankful for all the opportunities he’s had at OC … and he’s made the most of them. He’s played lead roles in two musicals and in his first full-length play at Oklahoma Christian. He participated in OC’s 10-minute plays, the Valentine Cabaret, Spring Sing, the opera and one-act plays. He says that everyone here has been encouraging, building his confidence and his love for his craft. “OC is a place that opens doors to its students, and any high school graduate looking to go to college is going to encounter life-changing experiences here,” Ryan said. “I firmly believe that if students choose OC expecting something amazing, they are going to find amazing again and again.” //By Chelsi Rodriguez

OC basketball fans may know Clinton Corley as one of the school’s best play-by-play announcers in recent years ... or as the sideline reporter for OC’s game telecasts on statewide cable. Fans of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder may not know him, but they know his behind-the-scenes work for Thunder Broadcasting, where he serves as a video photographer and editor. He traveled with the team during its recent run to the NBA Finals. When the Thunder clinched the Western Conference championship in front of a sellout home crowd at Chesapeake Energy Arena, it was “a night I will never forget the rest of my life,” Clinton said. Clinton graduated from OC in 2010 after making the most of his college career. He won awards working on air and behind the scenes for OC’s weekly newscast (which is now broadcast live statewide). He announced countless OC basketball games and helped produce the school’s game telecasts. He interned for a television station in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas. Now, he edits Thunder highlight packages after every game, documents player visits to community events and handles various responsibilities at home games. “The fun part of the job is just going out and doing a story, seeing the players up close and talking to them afterward,” Clinton said. “Being in the production truck during games to watch how what you see on TV is
put together just amazes me.” Clinton is one of four OC students who have worked with the Thunder. Luke Johns interned in the broadcast department and Courtney Britt and Amber Canady had marketing roles with the team. Clinton’s job allows him to rub elbows with NBA bigwigs and its biggest stars. He had a down-to-earth conversation with Dallas owner and famed billionaire Mark Cuban. And he gets up close to watch guys like Kobe, Lebron and the Thunder’s own Kevin Durant ... not to mention some of his broadcast heroes from ESPN, TNT and Fox Sports. As he enters his fourth year with one of the NBA’s elite organizations, Clinton is excited about the future. He once had on-air aspirations, but discovered his passion for producing when he got hands-on experience running the control room for Oklahoma Christian basketball telecasts. “The thing about producing for me is being able to put your thoughts and creativity to life. The professors and instructors at OC helped me because they let me do it. Learning from my mistakes and making it better was something they taught me,” Clinton said. “Their approach of being hands off, yet being there, allowed me to really see for myself what it’s like and what I need to do to become successful.” //By Wes McKinzie

Oklahoma Christian offers many international and domestic off-campus study opportunities each year.
Through OC’s European Studies Programs, students experience firsthand much of the history and culture that Europe has to offer. Choose to spend an entire fall semester or six weeks in the summer studying, traveling and serving abroad. See Westminster Abbey, where Prince William and Kate were married, visit the palace in Vienna where Napoleon lived, and study Michelangelo’s “David” in Florence. The Pacific Rim Studies Program begins every fall semester in China with its Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses. It continues in Japan with stops in Tokyo, Kyoto and Ibaraki. Students than head to New Zealand and Australia to study and serve, along with visits to Maori villages, wonderful museums, beautiful beaches and snorkeling the amazing Great Barrier Reef.
The final stop is Hawaii, highlighted by Waikiki Beach and a stirring visit to Pearl Harbor. The European Studies and Pacific Rim Studies programs send the largest groups abroad, but OC students have many other off-campus options. A year of study at Korea Christian University or Japan’s Ibaraki Christian University comes with a fulltuition scholarship. Additional summer programs include a Canada Shakespeare Tour for fine arts or literature credit, study opportunities in Latin America, and a medical mission program in Honduras. Through the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities, students can pursue programs like film school in Los Angeles, political or journalism studies in Washington, D.C., professional musician and music executive training at the Contemporary Music Center in Massachusetts, and international studies in Australia, China, England, Latin America, Russia and Uganda.

Oklahoma Christian is riding strong momentum as one of the best athletic programs in the country. OC has placed in the top 10 in the national allsports standings the past three years. The university fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track and field, baseball and softball, with student-athletes honored as NAIA All-Americans and NAIA Scholar-Athletes in a variety of sports on an annual basis. OC has won 45 NAIA championships, including the 2003 and 2012 men’s tennis titles, the 2009 and 2011 men’s golf championships, the 2011 men’s cross country title, plus a slew of individual and relay crowns in track and field. Twenty of OC’s national championships have come in the past four years. Big Events A highlight of Spring Visit weekend, Spring Sing features solo and group performances with a live band, and shows from OC’s freshman class and social service clubs. Freshman Fanfare is a similar event in the fall that allows first-year students to show their talents. Another variety show, First Week Follies, gives students the chance to see what professors can do outside the classroom. In November, Homecoming weekend includes basketball games, the annual musical, and the bonfire. Cocoa and Carols and Lighting of the Commons bring holiday spirit to campus in December during OC’s big “Winter Wonderland” week.
Clubs/Intramurals Students can rush from seven men’s clubs and six women’s clubs on campus. From Spring Sing to service projects and other activities, OC’s social service clubs provide a great way to form close relationships and grow spiritually (39% of OC students are club members). All OC students can participate in athletic events that will enhance their physical, mental, social and spiritual experience at OC. Events include Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Flag Football, Ping Pong, Pool, Sand Volleyball, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Volleyball.
Spiritual Connections One of OC’s most important traditions is meeting for Chapel every weekday. The “big” Chapel service and other small-group gatherings like Women’s Chapel, Missions Chapel, Great Songs Chapel (and more!) provide a chance to focus on God. Monday night’s “View 63” and other devotionals also bring students together to praise and worship.
Service Activities Held during Earn Your Wings week, Kite Day brings more than 200 inner-city school kids to campus to fly kites and eat lunch with OC’s incoming students. Kite Day kicks off a program that sees hundreds of OC students volunteer to mentor these kids. Since 1976, more than 1,200 OC students (from all majors) have enrolled in physical education classes that allow them to work one-on-one with elementary students with special needs.
A recent $34 million housing initiative allows students to enjoy first-class living on OC’s cutting-edge campus. All the rooms include high-speed network and Internet access. University House - North & South OC’s two newest residence halls (one for men and one for women) feature single and double suitestyle rooms, private bathrooms in each suite and a common living area. Apartments Six new three-story complexes for upperclassmen significantly enhance apartment life at OC. Students can choose single bedrooms or double bedrooms. Each apartment includes a full kitchen, dishwasher, living area, balcony, full-size washer and dryer, and one or two bathrooms (depending on the size of the unit).
Housing
Residence Halls OC’s refurbished men’s residence hall features single rooms, private restrooms, enlarged two-man rooms, and enlarged and renovated common restrooms. The renovated women’s residence hall features suite-style rooms with modern furniture and sinks/vanity cabinetry in each room. The suitestyle restrooms have new cabinets, tile, showers and fixtures. The renovated Honors House at Reba Davisson features tutorial, café, meeting and activity spaces for Honors Program students.
//Besides the new and renovated facilities featured above, OC offers housing in three additional apartment complexes and seven additional residence halls. All housing is conveniently located near all classes and campus venues.
