Start with Your Style

Start...

Congratulations, you're engaged! Before you go all pinterest crazy and the little green monster inside of you starts to take over, we want to give you a bit of guidance to make sure that during your wedding planning process, you stay true to you. We know on a regular basis us gals are plagued with an overwhelming urge to keep up with the Joneses and it can be especially difficult to fend off that urge when it comes to your wedding. Here, we've compiled some basic tips to help you identify your true style as a couple and arm you with the know-how you'll need to pull it all together.

9 WAYS TO FIND YOUR INSPIRATION... BE TRUE TO YOU

20

Ultimately, you know deep down inside what's truly important to you. Just know this: your wedding is the first big event you will host together as a couple so it's the first time to let your personalities truly shine in front of friends and family. Whatever your source of inspiration, make decisions that feel right to you, not what you've seen other couples do.

PASSION Everyone has a hobby, activity, cause or pledge they fully support and this may be just the place to draw inspiration from. Show off your priorities in life to your guests by finding inspiration on what your true passions are.

MUSE Inspiration abounds from a myriad of places and a muse might be just the thing you center your wedding style around. Your favorite movie, color, flowers, character, season or destination. Pick something near and dear to you and let it guide all of your style decisions.

LOCATION Your venue will have a great deal of impact on the environment of your wedding. If you opt for a barn.. you'll likely want to go for a more rustic feel. Or, if you book the most prestigious hotel in town, a glamorous wedding for you it is! Don't overlook your biggest expense in the wedding as a possible source for your overall theme too!

TIME OF THE DAY Are you a morning person or night owl? Whatever your preference, the time of day you ultimately choose to host your wedding ceremony and reception will effect the feel of the event. If you and your fiance are up and at 'em each day with a morning coffee... a brunch wedding just might be the thing for you. The possibilities are endless!

JOINT INTERESTS Do you and the future hubs have a common interest that brought you together? Flying, skydiving, traveling or food? Whatever it is you spend your free time doing, consider letting it be the source of your wedding style. Golf anyone?

www.OCCASIONSONLINE.com

FORMALITY If you're a great gatsby girl at heart, a formal setting just might be the style for you. But, if a laid back casual setting is for you.. so be it. Consider your personal preferences on dressing down or up when identifying the style wedding you want.

SCALE When you put together your guest list you'll either be looking at a large event or intimate gathering. The amount of people you choose to invite will affect the environment so when looking for sources of inspiration, remember how big or intimate the event will feel with the amount of friends and family in attendance and work off of that.

CONSIDER THE SEASON The time of the year could greatly affect the overall style of your wedding. Temperature and foliage are great places to find inspiration and build your wedding style around.

Start with Your Style

DO'S & DON'TS Be considerate of family traditions and wants but don't feel chained to them

Don't spend too much energy focusing on what others are doing

Be authentic to YOUR true style

Don't let the party details outshine the magic of your marriage

Create a budget, fine tune it and stick to it Edit. Edit. Edit. Start with a big picture and bring it into focus from there Manage the guest list... Don’t feel obligated to invite everyone. This will help your budget too.

COMBINATIONS FOR THIS SEASON

ORANGE & AQUA

NAVY & PURPLE

PEACH & BUTTER

GOLD & ROSE

Don't skimp on wedding vendors. Trust us... you get what you pay for Don't sweat the small stuff

BRAND IT

MINT & LEMON

MELON & LIME

Branding might be a term you've only thought to be relevant to marketing departments, but branding on a personal level takes company logos and color combinations and transforms them into monograms, slogans and party themes when it comes to modern day weddings. Think of it as a stylish extension of your personality. WHAT'S IN A PERSONAL BRAND? Monograms, color preferences, favorite fonts and even paper weight are the essential tools-of-the-trade wedding stationers and designers use to make your personal style shine through to family and friends. HOW & WHERE TO BRAND.... If you want to create a custom wedding brand your stationer is the go-to creative guru to turn to. They are the graphic designers behind all the great typography and scroll work you see in wedding magazines and blogs.

STYLE PROFILE:

SNOWY SOIREE For winter brides, weddings in the cooler months can be warm in a wonderful way. Case in point: this style profile designed for the couple who wants to cozy up with one another. If your idea of the ultimate quality time together is set at a ski lodge in Colorado or trotting through a forest via horse drawn carriage, this is the wedding style for you.

Get the Look... THEME A pretty winterwonderland wedding among the woods

COLORS Navy, silver, sage green, and several shades of brown

FLOWERS White peonies, anemones and lisianthus with blue thistle and viburnum berries

SIGNATURE COCKTAIL Warm your guests from the inside out. Serve a steamy spiked cider or hot cocoa and kahlua mixture.

TAKE IT UP A NOTCH Just because the weather report isn't siding in your favor, doesn't mean you can't have snow at your snowy soiree. Bring in a snow machine to really WOW guests and thrill the kids.

WHAT TO WEAR Baby it's cold outside! A winter wedding calls for stylish layers. Bring in a velvet bolero, faux fur shawl and dress your beau in a dapper wool coat, warm vest, wrapped in a stylish plaid scarf and bow tie.

ITEMS TO INCORPORATE To get this look, think of a snowy winter forest and incorporate items like pine cones, bark, pine needles, tree stumps and lots of candle light. Tables could be lined with lanterns, florals and burlap. THINGS TO REMEMBER Many of the details that draw you to this wedding style might have more to do with the fashion rather than the decor. So, if this is your wedding style don't skimp on what you're wearing... let your groom go custom when it comes to his suit and get creative with your layers and hairpiece.

BOOKING THE BEATS Who else can always say "I'm with the DJ?" Not many, but for Jim Tiernan, musician and owner of Blue Sky Atlanta Music & Entertainment, he is with more than just the DJ, he's the guy you want to get your wedding band, soloist, quartet, magician, even harpist. A vetted service for brides who expect the best. Here he gives us just a peek into what wedding performers are all about and how he helps make the perfect music match.

48

DESCRIBE THE ENERGY A LIVE MUSICIAN/BAND BRINGS TO WEDDING RECEPTIONS.... Passion in the performers is what I look for besides their overall talent. And, as long as good, quality musicians are around to sing and perform, there will always be room for another good one. The formal, sharpdressed look is traditional but as the night progresses, the jackets might come off and the sleeves may get rolled up as the band creates a truly exciting, energy generating mixture of drums, lights and vocals and folks on the dance floor just having the time of their lives! So, I know the passionate musicians from the ones that are just going thorough the motions; the people who still love their job and, to them, it's not even work. They love what they do and it shows. YOU REPRESENT MANY DIFFERENT MUSICIAN AND PERFORMERS... HOW DOES A GIRL CHOOSE WHICH IS THE BEST OPTION FOR ME? I am proud to represent professional journeymen including classical string players and pianists to bluegrass and Big Band Jazz. All our performers are vetted having passed the litmus test of good style, manners and professional integrity. Not everyone can make our team but if we are speaking about you and sending you out on wedding events, you must have maintained a successful career and have stayed on top of your game! That said, the best way to help the bride is to help us by telling us as much as possible about themselves where they went to school, what types of music do they love, etc. and their wedding event. We want to know locations and times - inside event or outside - just the details - before accurately beginning our best work and service. We also provide

"I don't know how many times I have taken calls from brides or their moms at the last minute with just days to go looking for an alternative last minute musical idea. And, we have pulled rabbits out of hats for them saving the day." many one-stop shop packages which may include ceremony, cocktail musicians and DJ's or dance bands! These packages have grown very popular and they have proven themselves to be real cost effective timesavers. WHAT'S THE ADVANTAGE OF WORKING WITH A BOOKING AGENT LIKE YOURSELF VERSUS GOING DIRECT TO THE BAND? First and foremost, I believe a booking agent that's also a musician is a huge advantage! I can actually show superior quality, value and save brides, with already so much to think about, time as well as treasure. I call our services, "concierge" - taken literally it means "doorkeeper" or representative to the owner. In other words, we've got your back. I take every call and treat the wedding event as if it were my own! I don't know how many times I have taken calls from brides or their moms at the last minute with just days to go looking for an alternative last minute musical idea. And, we have pulled rabbits out of hats for them saving the day. Just imagine what we can do for you when given months to plan!

DO YOU RECOMMEND SEEING THE BAND IN PERSON BEFORE YOU BOOK? It is hardly necessary because of the fact that we represent only the best performers. Besides you could easily show up at an event with even the best band on stage, listen for a time and hear them playing a song or songs that you wouldn't want played at your wedding. But that bride asked the band or DJ specifically for those selections! So, you could get a false positive. Honestly, I never liked the idea of someone showing up at a private event to view a band (even my own)! On our web site located at BlueSkyAtlanta.com we have audio files and, in some cases, video of our performers, song lists and testimonials from past clients. This information makes the whole process a lot easier. I WANT A BAND FOR MY WEDDING RECEPTION...CAN YOU TELL ME THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE, THEIR DIFFERENCES AND THEIR COST? There is not a "one-size fits all" answer here. Once we receive complete information about an event: location, time, inside, outside, whatever the details are, we can then provide accurate professional quotes for services. Of course and obviously, one would expect to spend more for the services of a 3 piece band which is less than 6 piece band which is less than a 9 piece band. This is where "the where, what and when" really comes into the mix. Let me assure anyone who reads this that we will always be fair, reasonable and beat the competition providing you with the best. After all, you desire it for your once in a lifetime wedding event!

CUSTOM COVERINGS THAT WORK FOR EVERYONE Pablo Oliveira is a wedding industry tastemaker and a connoisseur in the custom linen business. Pablo's team at Nuage Designs not only provides unique furniture rentals available to brides with style, but his ready-to-order linen collection fed directly from their custom pieces gives the everybride a unique opportunity to have something more couture and less cookie-cutter too. 50

WHAT ARE MY LINEN RENTAL OPTIONS AT NUAGE DESIGNS AND HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT THAN OTHER LINEN COMPANIES? Like other linen companies, we offer an extensive selection of competitively priced solid color linens in satin, dupioni silk, bengaline, and taffeta. However, we set ourselves apart with our wide inventory of distinctive specialty linens. These fabrics are embroidered, sequined, sheer, textured, flocked, metallic, patterned, woven, or embellished, and they are true statement pieces! Beyond what we carry in-house, there is always the option to create custom linens to suit your specific taste. While custom items are usually more expensive, don’t be afraid to explore this avenue if you really want a personal touch at your event. WHY SHOULD I OPT FOR AN UPGRADED LINEN VERSUS GOING WITH WHAT MY VENUE PROVIDES AND PUTTING MORE MONEY INTO MY CENTERPIECES, LIGHTING, ETC? Specialty linens are the most effective way to express your design vision at an event. They provide a large format for showcasing your event’s overall theme by combining colors, textures, patterns, or embellishments that truly define your style. WHERE DO YOU FIND YOUR INSPIRATION FOR NEW DESIGNS? Design inspiration can come from anywhere, so we take cues from sources large and small. We pay attention to what is happening in fashion, art, nature, and even our daily lives to forecast trends that will satisfy our clients’ evolving tastes.

HOW DOES THE COST OF CREATING CUSTOM LINENS COMPARE TO RENTING PIECES ALREADY IN YOUR INVENTORY? Custom linens are an investment piece and can range from two to five times the standard rental price or more. Factors that can affect cost include fabric choice, size (meaning both the overall size as well as whether it is a non-standard size), and any special detailing like embellishments, fitted tailoring, piping, or contrast pleating. WHAT PERCENTAGE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS OPT FOR CUSTOM LINENS VERSUS RENTING YOUR INVENTORY PIECES. Roughly 20% of our clientele are in the market for truly custom linens that are unavailable elsewhere, though the majority of our clients take advantage of our extensive inventory of in-stock options. Many custom pieces will go directly into inventory after their initial rental so there are plenty of specialty options to choose from without breaking the bank. YOU SAY CUSTOM, BUT REALLY... HOW CUSTOM CAN YOU GET WITH LINENS? The sky is truly the limit when it comes to customization. We’ve screen printed fabric with photograph-quality images for custom chair backs, we’ve combined multiple textiles into one cohesive cloth, we can even reproduce custom color & pattern combinations. And the customization extends beyond the table linen to include napkins, napkin accessories, chair backs, seat cushions, chair accessories, pillows, and even furniture slipcovers. The entire event can be customized at the hand of our sewing team!

SALAD

Soiree Catering is led in part by one serious-about-food southern belle. Kate Sasnett, an event planner turned catering entrepreneur, has a passion for weddings that goes far beyond the plate and her profit & loss. Here she unveils her dream menu and gives the everybride some quick things to consider when hiring your wedding caterer.

HOW DOES THE VENUE INFLUENCE THE MENU? Typically, the venue is reflected mainly in the budget. So, if someone chooses a more expensive venue then they will naturally have a larger catering budget. But, as far as menu selection goes we try not to let venue dictate menu. It’s more about how you present your food then the actual items when it comes to venue. We always want to make sure that the food is a part of the entire wedding look. INSTEAD OF CHICKEN, SERVE... Marinated Quail Breast over a bed of Succotash WHAT PERCENTAGE OF MY BUDGET SHOULD GO TO CATERING AND FOOD COSTS? The general rule is 30% of your entire budget to catering, but in this day and age brides have different priorities. So, that number may go up or down some depending on what the bride thinks to be important for her wedding vision. We are lucky that most Soiree brides think that food is as important part of the reception as we do. WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU LOVING RIGHT NOW? I think many of the most successful restaurants and caterers in all major markets are doing what I call a mash up. We are mixing together different trends and genres and basing everything on tastes and flavors and what people like. I love this! So, instead of just “farm to table” food, we are mixing healthy foods with good tasty Southern cuisine. Like a barley and quinoa vegetable salad topped with Fried Chicken. It seems like it might be an oxymoron, but we love the irony of it and it’s all about good flavors.

Hiring Vendors to Execute Your Style

WHAT WILL BE DIFFERENT ABOUT WORKING WITH A DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHER VERSUS A TRADITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER ON THE WEDDING DAY? I would venture to say that the documentary style lends itself to a more relaxed timeline. We are there to document what happens, whenever it happens. This is due to the fact that all parties involved are not as concerned with the extra element of going to take additional posed photographs. When considering your timeline for the day, we typically need less time for posed shots as it’s not our focus. This usually results in more time for you to spend with your friends and family. YOU PROBABLY SHOOT IN THE SAME AREA A LOT, HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THE SETTING REPETITION AND MAKE EACH COUPLES’ PHOTOS UNIQUE? Really, every wedding is different from a documentary perspective. No two couples are the same, and no two weddings are the same. I will admit that it is exciting and fun to shoot in new locations, but shooting in a building we are familiar with also has its advantages. We will know the strong points and shortcomings of the locations (photographically speaking) due to the fact that we are accustomed to the space. Its great to be able to anticipate what the couple might do, have the appropriate equipment (because we know the intricacies of the room) and get a great wide environmental shot. On the other hand, we also like to shoot from a distance with only the subject in focus allowing the background to fade away - we do this to emphasize and focus in on the couple and their emotion… but simultaneously, it can also minimize the importance of their surroundings.

DOCUMENTING THE DAY 54

A candid interview with Anna & Spencer Photography, self-described documentary photographers who believe that a less obstrusive approach to capturing weddings lends itself to photos with greater emotion and freedom on the day of. We happen to agree. WHAT IS A DOCUMENTARY STYLE PHOTOGRAPHER? A documentary wedding photographer is someone who is less obtrusive, and strives to document the wedding day as it truly happens. This means minimal posing, and candids throughout the day. Basically, it comes down to this - for us, we want our clients to remember the moment, not us photographing the moment. WHAT'S THE THE ADVANTAGE OF GOING THIS ROUTE VERSUS A TRADITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE? I wouldn’t call it an advantage as much as how you want to spend the time on your wedding day. When we think of traditional photography style, we typically think of extensive portraits/posing of everyone involved in the wedding. This can normally take at least an hour if not two or three. On the contrary, the documentary style would focus far less on this - if any group portraits are taken, it’s typically fast and simply for posterity - maybe 30 minutes at most. So, it really does come down to how you want to spend your time. Do you want to spend it taking portraits, or would you rather be interacting with your friends & family? (Quick clarification - we should note, both options are absolutely fine. Each person has an idea of what they want, and they should take that into consideration when considering what photographic style they choose for their wedding day.)

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THE PRESSURE OF IMMORTALIZING SUCH AN IMPORTANT DAY? Yes, there is a responsibility you have as a wedding photographer, but I think “pressure“ isn't something that we really encounter. As professionals, we know how to adapt to quickly changing situations. This is something we love to do, and the people who hire us have hired us specifically for our style and story-telling skills. So, there’s no real pressure - due to our experience, we’re ready to photograph the day as it unfolds. ARE DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHERS MORE EXPENSIVE? Not necessarily. I know that sounds like a copout answer, but really, it is more about the photography studio as a whole rather than about a specific style. A photographer who has more experience, is established, and has more extensive equipment can command a higher rate that someone just starting out. As for similarly established businesses, a studio can structure its pricing in so many different ways. I would suggest looking at the pricing in terms of coverage (amount of time) and products (prints, albums, and other items). This way, it might be easier to compare different studios. One may have “packages”, one may have an “a la carte” structure, and one may rely on print sales after the event. In the end, go with who you really connect with - this is one decision you won’t regret. WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU LOVING RIGHT NOW? Fusion Video. That is, the combination of video and photography to create a new meaningful experience. For us, we typically offer these types of videos with engagement sessions. It gives us a chance to interview a couple separately (the bride & groom apart) and then later weave their story together. The result is a video that is entirely meaningful, and it’s something they can keep and show to future generations.

FOUR WAYS TO WOW YOUR GUESTS Brian Green of F & G Weddings is known for bringing out fierce and fabulous details at his weddings, especially over-the-top ones. After seeing the exquisite details in a recent photoshoot he produced for us on page 26, we picked his brain for four quick ways brides can wow their guests from someone who knows a thing or two about weddings that wow through and through.

1 56

2

BRANDS ARE FOR BRIDES TOO Branding your wedding or personalizing your wedding is the greatest way to truly put your own stamp on your day. Its the best way to separate it from other weddings around. The more it showcases you and your style - the more amazed your friends will be because it will look and feel so much like you both.

DON'T SKIMP ON THE INVITATIONS Your stationery suite for your wedding is truly how your guests get their first glimpses at your wedding style. Custom stationery that is tailored to your colors and theme will allow your guests to get excited and have an idea what to expect on the wedding day. Great stationery is a great way to set the tone.

4

3 GOOD THINGS COME IN MASS QUANTITIES TOO Here’s an exciting fact - most everything we used in this shoot is available for mass scale. From the chair covers to the stemware and china, to the linens used...it’s all there - it just comes down to how you use what is out there in fabulously unique ways. There are so many cool rental pieces available - from hexagon tables to vintage furnishings, to colored china or stemware...you name it..you can find it to make your event amazing.

THINK OUTSIDE THE CIRCULAR CENTERPIECE After a while vases begin to look and feel the same and although they are some amazing vessels in the industry coming up with a unique way to wow your guests always drives me to think bigger. I sat down with my decor team and we decided to create a channel in the table so that the florals would nestle at table height and spill onto the table in a very soft romantic fashion. Very unexpected!

Uenue GUIDE

A Vetted Resource of the Most Reputable Special Event Locations Across the Southeast Our Venue Guide is all about finding the right location for your wedding. After all, it all starts with your venue. There are appropriate facilities for parties of all sizes, but when you’re choosing the perfect spot for your next event, all of those options can be overwhelming. The size of the crowd will narrow down your choices, but then there are still numerous types of venues to consider.

Whatever your particular tastes, when the time comes to choose your wedding location, make sure you know what to look for in a venue before you book.

Wedding VENUE REVIEW

So, exactly what type of Occasion do you envision for your upcoming wedding? Knowing this will ease your venue search because the setting affects the overall style tremendously. Not to mention the budget! In the southeast, the options for brides are limitless. From country clubs to hotels, city clubs, oceanfront resorts, farms, barns, antebellum homes, private mansions and everything in between... a girl's got options. So, we've scoured the top cities to bring you the very best venues to select from.

QUESTIONS TO ASK A POTENTIAL VENUE . . . HOW MANY HOURS DOES MY RENTAL FEE INCLUDE? ARE THERE OVERTIME CHARGES? Some venues charge by the hour for use of their facility. Knowing exactly how many hours are included, and alloting plenty of time for set up and tear down is important.

HOW DO YOU CHARGE? PER PERSON, BY THE HOUR OR FLAT FEE? Always good to know how your venue charges for rental. It's likely that facilities who include catering will charge a per person rate and venues without catering will charge a flat fee or hourly rental.

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN VENDORS OR DO I HAVE TO USE A PREFERRED VENDOR LIST SUPPLIED BY THE VENUE? Many venues will supply you with a list of their preferred wedding vendors to use. This can be helpful to the bride who needs direction and referrals but also a hinderance for brides who know exactly which vendors they'd like to use. Clarify with your venue whether it's required or not to use their specfied vendors before you book.

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN ALCOHOL? Venues that don't carry their own liquor license often allow brides to bring in their own alcohol. This is not typically the norm, but there are a few venues out there with this option. Remember, if you do opt to bring in your own alcohol, you'll want to hire a bar service to tend to guests.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL THE SPACE HOLD (NOT JUST OFFICIAL CAPACITY) ACCORDING TO MY ROOM SET UP. Your room set up will greatly effect the amount of guests you can have at your wedding. Official capacities are for the fire marshal. You'll want to focus on how many guests you can fit into the room with a seated dinner, estate table, dance floor or buffet set up.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE VENUE RENTAL? Most venues have house items that are included in the cost of their facililty rental like dancefloors, tables, chairs, standard linens, etc. But, there are several venues that don't offer this and could amount to an additional cost to you. Ask before you book.

WHAT IS THE PARKING SITUATION? Valet parking, limited options, street parking or ample complimentary parking for guests are all important things to consider.

WILL THERE BE OTHER WEDDINGS HAPPENING ON THE SAME DAY? Depending on the size of the venue, it will be nice to know whether your event will be the only event happening on property or if there will be others. Other events may infringe on your time use of the venue or confusion for guests so best to know ahead of time and be prepared.

IF NOT, IS THERE AN ALCOHOL MINIMUM? Often venues with liquor licenses will have a bar minimum in addition to the cost of their venue rental. Best to have a heads up about this before you book for budgeting.

In true classic style, the bride was adorned in a traditional, off-white silk gown, Chanel pearls offering a touch of fashionforward feminity.

The bride carried a large bouquet crafted from pure white blossoms and greenery — a winter arrangement possessing all the grace and grandeur of the Swan House itself.

The table was set with timeless, Delft Blue chargers and dessert plates from Juliska's Country Estate dinnerware collection, as well as dishes in a divine pattern of swirling marble.

A majestic five-tier blue ombre ruffle cake sat regally upon a metallic table, its cool beauty quickly earning it time in the spotlight.

Dark, fingerless leather gloves from Chanel brought a hint of bold and modern to this bride's look, while her navy satin pumps were the perfect balance of elegance and sass!

BETH + RYAN

Savannah, Georgia

Hundreds of years of beautiful history lay beneath her feet as Beth walked down the aisle in the dress of her dreams atop the roof of The Riverstreet Inn for the first wedding ceremony in the establishment’s long history. Her brother, Jody, escorted her on the once-in-a-lifetime walk, the memory of their father held close, the sound of violin music sweet on the low country air. Beth and her soon-to-be-husband, Ryan, had fallen in love with the city of Savannah when vacationing there together the year before. And so it was no question that their wedding would be a destination event. Their closest friends and family looked on as Beth and Ryan vowed to love one another forever. Accents of blush pink and ivory, hints of gold and the bride’s beloved peonies lending the perfect Southern flare to the unforgettable moment. The reception took place at Savannah’s renowned Vic’s On The River, serving up gourmet dishes including fried green tomatoes with goat cheese and pecan-crusted flounder and ribeye. Live piano music to the tune of Sinatra and the Lumineers serenaded guests throughout the evening.

HALIE + JARED

Atlanta, Georgia

Winsome billows of soft, white curtains draped from the ceiling flanked the rows of rustic church pews lined in sweet succession for Halie and Jared’s wedding day. The Foundry At Puritan Mill was exactly the right setting of rustic Southern romance the couple wished to inspire on their big day. The bride said her vows wearing a gown of lace accents with a headpiece made to match, her look perfectly accented by the violet gowns worn by her bridesmaids. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour complete with slideshows of Halie and Jared before the newlyweds made their first appearance as man and wife, and Jared swept Halie into their first dance. Dinner was served from three elegant stations featuring different foods to satisfy even the most selective of palettes. The wedding cake followed, the design inspired by Halie’s bridal headpiece and before they knew it, the bride and groom danced the night away with their guests, capping off the evening with a final dance to Sinatra’s New York in honor of their upcoming move to the Big Apple.

LAURA + BRENNAN

Savannah, Georgia

Laura knew from the moment she started planning her wedding to Brennan that it would be exceptionally elegant. All Savannah weddings are, of course. Little tokens of iconic Savannah culture were sprinkled throughout the day, from a hot praline stand at the reception, to the old-world trolley that took Laura and her bridesmaids to the ceremony downtown. Though, no moment was quite like the one when Laura took her first step down the aisle of the sprawling, historic Cathedral Of Saint John The Baptist, when the bride and groom both knew that nothing would ever be the same again. Laura wore a simple, yet timeless white gown, attended by her bridesmaids in one-shoulder green gowns. The food at the reception was a sensation all its own. With unique offerings such as a grilled cheese station and a chocolate groom's cake with bourbon pecan glaze, guests were talking about the meal for weeks to come. The reception continued with tunes by Sapphire Bullets Of Pure Love that kept the dance floor packed. Memories of their perfect day held close, the newlyweds took off into the sunset for an eight day honeymoon in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. www.OCCASIONSONLINE.com

TAMI + RYAN

Pine Mountain, Georgia

Tami awoke the morning of her wedding to hear a cold March rain pouring outside her hotel window. She and fiancé Ryan knew that planning an outdoor ceremony so early in the spring was risky; however, she did not become discouraged and by the time Tami and her bridesmaids arrived at the wedding venue later in the afternoon, the temperatures had risen and the skies cleared to a glorious shade of blue! Because many of the groom’s relatives traveled south for the occasion, the sweethearts desired their nuptials to reflect true Southern style and the historic charm of Sweet Home Plantation could not have provided a more perfect atmosphere! Soft sage and gray were selected for the attire of the wedding party and their bouquets and boutonnieres were classic combinations of roses, hydrangeas and baby’s breath. After Tami and Ryan exchanged their vows, all ventured down a pathway lined with tiki torches to a cluster of tents set up for the reception. Guests savored grilled chicken and shrimp from Kimble’s, after which they danced the night away to the magical sound of a steel drum!

JESSICA + CRAIG

St. Simons Island, Georgia

The evening wedding ceremony was an autumn night’s dream as Jessica and Craig vowed to love one another forever beneath the vaulted ceiling of Wesley United Methodist Church. In the perfect dramatic entrance, floor to ceiling wooden doors slid open to reveal Jessica and her father as she began her walk down the aisle toward her waiting groom. The bride wore the gown of her dreams, a fitted lace design by Pronovias, all eyes on her with each step she took. And as the ceremony drew to a close, the long awaited kiss drew cheers and applause for the couple’s dream come true. Sea-swept breezes and the sound of crashing waves greeted the newlyweds as they arrived at the pier in the Village on St. Simons Island. Live music drew guests into the atrium as they were presented a surf n’ turf-inspired fare of tenderloin and the low country specialty, shrimp and grits. It didn’t take long before the dance floor crowded with family and friends. The couple danced the night away, the rhythm of the ocean waves behind them.

Silver moonlight shone down on Piedmont Park as Nancy and David prepared for the ceremony that would change their lives forever. The signing of the traditional Jewish marriage contract, the Ketubah, was a moment neither of them would forget as they committed themselves to one another before exchanging vows in front of their closest family and friends. The bride wore a Paloma Blanca ball gown with a lace sweetheart neckline, her elegant look perfectly offset by her bridesmaids’ gowns of soft grey in various styles by Alfred Sung. The reception took place in a ballroom near the park, decorated in vintage modern accents of grey and yellow. Guests signed advice for the bride and groom onto coasters before enjoying warm buttered crackers that waited for them as they found their seats. A dinner of salmon, beef tenderloin, and a variety of scrumptious courses were served, while Nancy and David enjoyed toasts by their most honored guests. A hush fell over the crowd just before the first lines of the song were sung. One after another guests joined in, the words of the iconic church hymn, “Come Thou Fount,” filling the sanctuary of Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church as Lindsey walked down the aisle toward her groom. Only moments before, she and Will had shared a prayer for their future together, a moment neither of them will ever forget. The bride wore an ivory lace trumpet gown, a perfectly romantic match to Will’s Air Force tuxedo. And after the vows were said, the newlyweds took off for Falcon Field's Commemorative Air Force Hangar for the reception, which was surrounded by restored World War II planes. The couple entered the celebration beneath the traditional arch of sabers whilst Lindsey was officially welcomed to the family by being serenaded to “Welcome to the Air Force, ma’am." The reception commenced with high-energy music and an array of dinner options for guests, ranging from traditional Southern fare to savory Italian dishes. Dressed in an utterly romantic gown of ivory lace, the bride stepped outside to share a first look with her groom, close family and the wedding party allowed to witness the sweet moment before traveling to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Organ music echoed throughout the sanctuary as Linsday's father escorted her down the aisle for a heartfelt ceremony. A reception followed at the nearby 3109 Piedmont Estate And Gardens, the space a perfect balance of elegance and modern class with its soft candlelight, silver tablecloths, and metallic vases holding arrangements of anemones, roses, and carnations. There were rose petals scattered across the candlelit staircase as Amber made her way down to the long-awaited aisle and her proud groom. An intimate setting, the atmosphere at Summerour, from the courtyard to the wooden floors and elevated ceilings, was just what Amber and Jeremiah had dreamed of. The open architecture displayed the ceremony to the world outside as the couple said, “I do," only a short while after a first look that quite literally took their breath away. The bride wore an open-back James Clifford gown with a chapel-length train adorned in lace and beading. Candlelight and rose petals lined the aisle, ending at an archway draped in fabric and strands of jewels — a scene of perfection amid the melodies of a string trio and the romantic patter of light rainfall outside. Guests entered the reception to find fresh cuts of lilacs, roses, sweet peas and more. Shades of eggplant and grey complimented carefully placed hot-air balloon decor, a nod to Amber and Jeremiah’s engagement. A three-tier cake and chocolate-covered strawberries topped off a delectable meal and after much dancing and unforgettable revelry, the bride and groom exited to the waving of sparklers in the moonlight. www.OCCASIONSONLINE.com

LEEANN + MATT

Rustic elegance. Southern flare. These were the ideas LeeAnn and Matt had in mind when they decided to hold their wedding at The Thompson House And Gardens just outside the city of Athens. Bridesmaids in gowns of coral preceded the bride into the garden where LeeAnn met her groom and exchanged vows with him in the presence of guests who’d traveled from far and wide. It was important for LeeAnn and Matt to share their Southern heritage with guests who’d never experienced it before, so following the ceremony, guests got a taste of the truest forms of Southern comfort with helpings of gourmet barbeque and all manner of Southern side dishes served atop burlap draped tables. The reception took place inside the farmhouse, the party ultimately spilling out into the yard amid the placid scenery of historic outbuildings and barns scattering the property. Guests enjoyed the sweet rhythm of rocking chairs as they sipped drinks from personalized mason jars and watched the bride dressed in her gown of lace dance the night away with her smiling groom.

Southern, sophisticated class. That was the essence of Victoria and Alan’s wedding day from the moment guests arrived on the steps of The Hazelhurst House until they took their final spin on the dance floor. With soft color palettes accentuated by a hint of gold, the atmosphere was as welcoming and easy going as the bride and groom themselves. Each of Victoria’s bridesmaids wore gowns of soft pink, sweetly offsetting the stunning white of the bride’s top-to-bottom lace wedding gown. The ceremony consisted of traditional vows the bride and groom wrote to one another, but wasn’t without a particularly joyful twist with a second set of vows that left the guests laughing and entertained. Victoria and Alan’s favorite dishes of pasta and chicken Caesar salad were served at the reception, followed by a gorgeous strawberry shortcake. Dancing and revelry were the order of the night, and the bride and groom took their exit down an aisle of guests waving glowing sparklers, pausing for a brief moment to share a kiss that ushered them right into the realm of happily ever after.

CLARE + RAY

Montverde, Florida

When Clare and Ray planned their wedding every detail was laid out with absolute precision. Tones of red to honor Clare’s Chinese heritage, elegant décor to compliment the already stunning atmosphere of the venue, and a menu fit for a king and queen. And needless to say, the wedding was just as perfect as Clare and Ray hoped it would be. Clare wore a stunning A-line design by Demetrios, perfectly offset by her bridesmaids’ apple-red mermaid gowns. After the “I do’s” were said, guests made their way to the reception to find Tuscan-inspired fare waiting for them, each receiving a dinner of chicken and salmon as well as other generous courses capped off by a multi-tiered wedding cake of multiple flavors. Dj Louis provided the perfect atmosphere for cutting loose on the dance floor, and the bride and groom joined their guests doing just that. As the wedding night drew to a close, Clare and Ray made their grand exit to the cheering of family and friends.

KATHY + PATRICK

Islamorada, Florida

Few places in the world lend themselves quite so well to romance as beside the ocean, a fact Kathy and Patrick took to heart when they decided to host their family and friends for a wedding weekend at The Caribbean Resort in Islamorada, Florida. Opting for a laid back event that would encourage guests to cut loose and relax, Kathy and Patrick embraced the trappings of the ocean for their wedding day, utilizing elegant nautical decor throughout and bridesmaids dressed in iconic navy blue. Only a short time after a romantic first look session with Patrick before the wedding ceremony, Kathy stood in front of her groom and promised to love him forever. Her lace, open-back gown fit like it was made just for her, softly elegant beside her groom, charmingly dressed in khaki linen pants and a white linen shirt. And once the guests had cheered the bride and groom over to the reception, the celebration began, hardly a moment passing without the dance floor packed to the brim. Kathy and Patrick never left each other’s side as their perfect day slipped into night, priceless memories created with each passing moment.

KELLY + KELLY

McWilliams

Kelly McWilliams is a Destination Wedding Planner based in Cape Coral, Florida. Planning hundreds of weddings makes her quite the wedding expert, but it's her personal experience planning her own wedding that we seek the most. Married to her husband, a Certified Marine Technician who poetically shares the same first name for 15 years, Kelly gives us a look back at their big day and the best advice she can personally share.

ABOUT OUR WEDDING "Kelly and I had a destination wedding in Orlando, Florida March 15, 1998. Back then I didn't even know wedding planners existed! If ever there was a case for showing all the reasons you hire a wedding planner, our wedding was it. We had issue after issue during planning and the day of. You name the problem...we had it. When it came down to it though, on the day of the wedding I took everything for what it was and had a great time. I was so happy to be getting married and the celebration was great." BEST ADVICE "If I could recommend anything to brides and grooms it would be to look to work with people who seem to understand you the best and that genuinely seem like they want to be a part of your wedding. If you're having a destination wedding, plan a couple events so that you can spend time with everyone and everyone can get to know each other. Also, have a really good well thought out timeline for the day - think of how all the moving pieces flow. Rushing around and missing out on things that are important is not something you want to experience. Finally, get video. I had no idea I wanted it or how important it was until I saw it. Our kids, Madeline (15) and Emily (11) got such a giggle out of the video."
