or over 80 years, production agriculture has been the foundation from which ND FFA attributes its outstanding legacy for developing premier leadership, personal growth, and career success among its over 4500 members. There is no better way to ensure this strong tradition continues than to enable the land to continue to produce our future. The Producing Futures program allows farmers, ranchers, and those in agribusiness to pledge their support to the ND FFA by making a production-based, tax-deductible donation. Greg and Marla Maddock of Maddock became the first to enroll in the Producing Futures program. Join these individuals who are Producing Futures for ND FFA: Greg & Marla Maddock, Robert Buckmier, David Kenner, Bryan Kenner, Paul Backstrom, Todd Buehler, Donnie & Stephanie Buckmier, Dorinda & Vaughn Zacharias, Prairie Nutrition Center (Jodi Woroniecki), Tom & Pam Schmid, Beth & Wayne Stenehjem, and Steve Zimmerman. See the enrollment form on page 11 or for information, contact your local FFA chapter, visit us at www.ndffafoundation.com and click Producing Futures, or call 701.224.8390.

New Jacket, New Look, Bright Future!

This is Triple K Boogies Mr. Echo, the miniature stallion I purchased with the help of the SAE grant money I was awarded. I purchased him from Triple K Miniatures, home of many world champions. Triple K Boogies Mr. Echo is sired by Little Kings Boogie Buckaroo who is a multiworld champion; most of Boogies siblings and offspring also have world titles. Mr. Echo’s dam, Alamos Buck Echo Feverette, was not shown but her offspring are well-known in the show world and many other countries. There are currently six of her foals in five different countries, but I was lucky enough to have the opportuntiy to purchase this beautiful stallion. Thank you for choosing me as one of the recipients for the Expansion SAE grant. It is greatly appreciated and now I can start raising my own foals. Sincerely, Megan M Eichele

The Blue Jackets Bright Futures Program this year was again a success. At the 101 Greenhand Leadership Conference in Bismarck, 203 students received jackets, which were sponsored by over 100 individuals or companies. Some of the donors were former state officers or members – there were also jackets given in memory of a person who was an FFA member. The Blue Jackets Bright Futures Program began back in 2006 when 47 jackets were given away. Since then the program has grown by leaps and bounds and over 850 jackets have been given away. There were 230 students who applied for jackets this year – so we know there is still a need to have this program.

Cargill Supports KHS Ag Program with $75,000 Donation As part of its longstanding commitment to support education, Cargill has donated $75,000 to build a new greenhouse for the Kindred High School agriculture program. The greenhouse will provide high school students with hands-on opportunities to learn about plant science and horticulture. The Kindred High School agriculture program is an integral part of the school district’s curriculum. “We know how valuable this agriculture program is to students in the community, and we’re proud to support their education,” said Tyler Schultz, commercial manager at Cargill’s grain and oilseed facility in West Fargo. “We are looking forward to helping build the greenhouse and making it a great resource for local students.” The donated funds will be used for the new greenhouse structure, costs for electricity, plumbing, shelving, watering system, and other greenhouse support items. Your Gift X 2? It’s easy to make your gift to the ND FFA Foundation worth twice as much. Simply ask your employer if they have a gift matching program for nonprofit organizations. Many companies have gone to an “Employee Matching” fund policy versus making donations to individual nonprofits. These companies have chosen to let you, their valued employee, decide where your company invests its charitable giving budget. Most employee matching programs work on the following premise: You choose to give to a nonprofit of your choice and your employer matches those funds up to a certain dollar amount. So ask your employer today about employee matching and how you can make your gift worth twice as much!

-----------------------------------------------------Students Receive SAE Grants In 2006, the ND FFA Foundation was fortunate enough to receive farmland from a trust set up by Fridjov Bakk over 20 years ago. With these funds generated from the farmland, the ND FFA Foundation Board had the task of trying to use the funds as wisely as possible for the good of FFA students in North Dakota. Among these funds are the Beginning SAE Grant awards, college scholarships for those going into production agriculture or agriculture education, tuition grants for those starting the ND Farm Business Management program, and Expansion SAE Grant awards. Bruce Bachmeier, ND FFA Foundation Board President, handed out the Beginning and Expansion SAE Grants at the Winter Leadership Conferences in Bismarck recently. Thirty-nine students received $750 each. The funds are to be used to begin or expand a student’s SAE program with special consideration for production agriculture. Beginning Grant Winners: Elizabeth Neshem (Berthold), LauraEllen Brendjord & Madison Klebe (Bottineau), Kyle Austin McGee (Bowman), Haley Koenig & Bailey Retzlaff (Carrington), Jayden Hansen (Garrison), Harleigh Thompson (Granville), Heiley Kallenbach & Megan Olson (Maddock), Gwen Scheresky & Brooke Schroeder (Max), Tanner Larson (Medina), Katelyn Horner & Angela Leier (Napoleon), Colbey Steeke

Because of FFA week I'm going to share a story. As freshmen we get introduced to SAE, mine being beef. I started with 8 bred x heifers. The following year I paid my loan back with calves. The next two years I added cattle and kept heifers. 2005 I bought my first two purebred Simmentals. I kept adding heifers every year to this purebred herd bringing me to today. I now have over 70 purebred cows and 20 bulls. Thanks to this SAE and FFA I was able to find what my passion is. FFA gives the opportunity to experience new things and learn about yourself. :) AJ Blohm (Beulah FFA alum)

A Note from the President On behalf of the ND FFA Foundation board of directors, I would like to send a special thank you to our newest star partners being Northland Ford Dealers, Dakota Plains Cooperative, Proseed, and ND Farmers Union Insurance. I would also like to thank the many other new and existing sponsors who allow the FFA Foundation to function. This past winter was sure a nice change from the previous. The struggles of former years from the weather did not affect those traveling to the different events this past winter. Many of us experienced many firsts this past winter judging season, which included: livestock judging outside in the sun with temps. around 70, sitting outside on the sidewalk waiting for awards, or enjoying a lunch outside. Congratulations to all of the FFA members that

exhibited champion grain samples at the Winter Show and those that competed in the Winter Career Development Events and for the proficiency award finalists. I always enjoy reading and hearing about the many successes and accomplishments of the FFA members throughout the year. Keep up the good work! FFA members, please remember to thank the many individuals who have helped you become successful and those that have helped you achieve your goals. I look forward in seeing many of you at state convention in June. Please contact the foundation office or me with any ideas or questions about the ND FFA Foundation.
