GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT MINISTRY
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave us the Great Commission, telling the disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
The Great Commission wasn’t just for his first followers. It was a command for all followers of Christ. It may have been the biggest challenge ever – a challenge to WELCOME everyone in the world into the Good News of God’s love, His forgiveness and His gift of salvation; to allow Jesus to TRANSFORM our lives; and to step out in faith to SERVE people around the world. Through our Global Development Ministry, we open our hearts and our hands to people far from God and those who have never heard the message of God’s love. We support those who go – and we go as servants wherever He calls us. Out of our love for Him, we serve faithfully, obediently and sacrificially. In serving God, we live out our mission as a church family: To bring glory to God by loving God, loving people and making disciples.
TRANSFORMATIONAL MINISTRIES At Journey of Faith, we support more than 40 missionaries around the world – many from our own congregation. Working with them, we are planting churches in Estonia and Jordan, translating Bibles into new languages in Africa and building churches in Guatemala. We are reaching young people with the Good News by offering Englishas-a-second-language classes in Europe, Asia and North America. We are restoring coral reefs to bring back the sea life that once fueled the economy of an island in the Philippines, and we are building a new seminary to train the next generation of religious leaders in Cuba. From ministering to the poor in the slums of Haiti to sharing the gospel with Muslim students in the suburbs of New York, we are empowering others to live out Jesus’ unique calling for their lives. And we are just getting started.
FUTURE MINISTRIES
Our future will be built on ministries of compassion and justice. Fighting slavery and human trafficking, standing for the rights of people everywhere and fulfilling the mandate of Christ to a broken world: These are among the challenges we face as a church community answering God’s call to serve.
“Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:37-40)
YOUR MINISTRY
At Journey of Faith, service is part of our DNA – whether we are serving in our community or on another continent. We are a diverse church with a heart for a truly global congregation engaged in every culture at home and abroad. Christ calls us to be lights in this dark world. We serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, wherever He calls us, and God blesses us when we do. When you make the decision to give yourself to Christian service, God multiplies your efforts. The joy comes when children are fed and educated, the poor are lifted out of poverty, captives are set free and those who are far from God find Jesus. You will see the fruits of your work. You will make new friends for life. You will help the lost to find salvation – the greatest gift of all. And you will bring glory to God.
