Open the door to imagination... Choosing the décor of your child's bedroom, often means being confronted with your own desires and those of your little cherub. What can you do? You make the choice, in order to make sure that it will evolve into a pleasant and harmonious environment? Let them decide, and take the risk that their choices will reveal some questionable taste? Here is a magical solution... and it must be so, given the magnitude of the dilemma... Open the doors of imagination, and go to the place where children and parents can find and understand each other. Do you want the key to this wonderful place? Don't be afraid to let your own extravagance run wild, awaken the

child's soul in you, let your imagination wander, and that will guide you to your child's imagination. Remember... you are a pirate, navigating a stormy sea when a siren's song made you capsize. You wash ashore on a wonderful island, with unknown flora and fauna... You're attacked by a swarm of pink butterflies, caressing you with the light flapping of a million wings, like those of these bed covers from Catimini. Or you're on a boat, rocked by the movement of the waves, the sun shines on the endless blue sea, as tigers roar on the shore. You tame one of them... because everything is possible for the circus star you are, in this room by Designer Guild.

Where art grows... And when the imaginary takes shape in the perceptible world, it becomes art. Naturally, without a preferred medium, children express themselves with the tools they are given. A mini painting studio, a drum, harmonica and trumpet, some building toys, everything is a pretext for the expression of this blossoming imagination. Creating an environment conducive to the expression of this imagination, means enabling the child to materialise it, in order to live it and share it. A whole program... From "Hape," a mini wooden grand piano, worthy of a future composer, with its 30 keys, will perhaps reveal a future musical talent.

Because this imagination, what form does it take? A child watching an animated film is captivated by the story, the fantasy world that unfolds, far beyond the material aspect. So it's not necessary to limit the scope of perception only to the aesthetics of their favourite cartoon hero. You can spread out infinitely, in order to expand their sensory palette. Works of art in the bedroom? But of course! Your child will grasp the subtlety and creative nuances of the art. So go ahead, indulge yourself with bright and colourful works, such as those offered by "CarrĂŠ d'artistes," which will nourish the wonderful in them.

From illusion to reality ... Cabin beds are big this year. And for good reason... at ease, the little ones can sleep peacefully in an environment like the maternal cocoon. The enclosed space creates a sense of security. The cabin is a place where children can learn to manage their fears, to hide... from the big bad wolf. It is becoming a great way to bring the overflowing imagination of little artists to life. Better than a doll house, it allows aspiring actors to live out their own script, at the size of life. Rather than escaping into imaginary dreams, children can fish, cook up, and flush out treasures here; they are at the heart of the action.

The whole body is mobilised, for learning to conceive and perform a movement. The cabin is their own little house, which will become, later their first apartment, it is a place for experimenting with autonomy. In it, the child can discover and live out their emotions, feelings, and desires, through their imagination. Even small rooms can find space for this child's refuge. With, for example, "Bimodal" furnishing solutions, the cabinet or desk transforms into a bed and frees up space for a whole territory of play and experimentation. The "Cocktail scandinave" cabin bed, raised up and secure, will make the dreams of the little ones come true.

Where you are free to be yourself... The design trends, in 2014, anticipate the child, adapt to their universe, materialise their rich, creative inner world. Then you just have to be attentive to what motivates your child, in order to be able to create the room of their dreams, because today, the furniture and decoration possibilities for children

are numerous and attractive. Refined, aesthetic, these children's bedrooms value the souls of these budding young artists, offering combinations of colours that are both bold and harmonious, with surprising arrangements, and quality, raw materials, to awaken their senses. Inspiration is guided by the old and the new. The solid values of yesteryear also return to centre stage, brought up to date, they advocate for simplicity, to let children express themselves. From "C Mon étiquette," a sticker advantageously replaces the old blackboard, with its practicality and playfulness, but retains its essential function: making it possible to create freely with little.

Focus: Your children are the designers! We have fallen in love with the furniture from "Madame Pop and Kids." The spontaneous drawings by little artists, stylised and transposed onto canvas, lamps, bed linens, chairs, clocks, etc. with professional printing, resemble contemporary works of art, and give a current look to the room. Delighted to be the author of their own décor, your child really feel at home in the middle of their own drawings and will be proud to present their creations to their guests. Haute couture atmosphere... Intimate setting, romantic staging, there are some atmosphere that you just cannot forget, that we want to recall at will, since they evoke so much sweetness, pleasure, and beauty to us. To create this kind of atmosphere, every sense must be stimulated, nothing should be left to chance. The first relationship that we have with a room, is a visual relationship. The look must be flattered with harmonious colours and effects to give a first impression that makes you want to touch it, with this set of curtains and cushions in moirĂŠ silk from ANNE BEKER.

For a more spring-like atmosphere, we can also focus on transparency and lightness, with curtains that bring the freshness, like in the SONIA RYKIEL collection. Here, prints of birds and flowers act as a protective filter for enjoying the view of the city while being bathed in a gentle, bucolic bubble. After the visual, touch is awakened, for a room in which you want to emphasize comfort, privacy, luxury, and warmth we love heavy fabrics: taffeta, linen, and silk. The 2014 collections from ANNE BEKER and SONIA RYKIEL rely on embroidery and highlight the refined materials with graphic and plants motifs.

Natural inner beauty... The fundamental charm of a room comes from the softness and subtlety of its brightness. Creating an intimate atmosphere, staging a large volume, imagining dedicated spaces, playing with shadow and light, these are the essential functions of decoration. To create boundaries without partitioning, you can go with interior shutters or curtains. We love the dramatic and subtle aspect of these JASNO interior shutters that lend a unique and very soothing atmosphere to this living room. The natural look of the light wood creates a sense of a cocoon that does not isolate one from the landscape outside, extending it. To delineate without separating,

semi opaque sheer curtains from BALEINE ROUGE let light through and punctuate it with a plant motif that fits perfectly with the textiles around the room. For this collection, BALEINE ROUGE has arrested nature in a special state. Between the memory of the summer and the call of spring. In this transparency, the body of the plant arises, floating on a wall covering, of hanging patterns. The veins of this vegetation are found in the essence of the JASNO interior shutters, with subtle colours that are the essence of nature, in pure and magnified forms. We feel the timeless fibre, time suspended, floating, and transparency.

Here is a beautiful example of a creation from ROUSSEL STORE that combines ingenuity, practicality, and style. Designer by training, Alexis Tricoire has been exploring the limits of possibility between design and plant, plant and architecture, plant and object since 2006. As a "plant visual artist," a term that appears to best define his work, he's now a major player in a rapidly changing discipline which is freeing itself" to its second generation," by entering large-scale projects. It's the sign of a new consideration of the plant in the collective consciousness for the public space. He stages the spectacle of nature, both inside and outside, for prestigious clients including the EDF Foundation, Macif, the Château de Versailles, Événement Jardins, the Tuileries Gardens... for temporary exhibitions; sustainable projects with Unibail (Shopping Centres in Lyon, Prague, Vienna, Aéroville), Partouche Group (La Grande Motte Casino), Pérene kitchens. Talking about Mel and Kio is a challenge. You must speak softly and take your time... It's like stepping into the world of the theatre, where for once, instead of playing history, the storyteller, or rather the storytellers are brought into the abyss. Because in fact the creators, Mel and Kio, often succeed where contemporary art does not dare: they engage in a generous dialogue, offering poetic works that lay bare the intimate and a dreamlike world. Mel is a visual artist. Kio is a writer. Together, they pair up to compose works of a great sensitivity, mingling their inspirations and references. Brought together by chance on a book project, Mel and Kio share a passion for words, rhythm, and lines. So, for nearly 10 years they have created works in which Mel sketches Kio's poetry, while Kio murmurs her words to combine calligraphy with Mel's drawings.

1982

By Eglantine Bremond

Everyone in the street! The essence of the 80s, is fun, disco, parties; movement. In 1982, we danced, moved, and went out. In 1982, urban culture took root in France and interiors were adorned with a look worthy of a Paris subway station. Phosphorescent, off-beat, but also intimate and subdued, design, in 1982, was inspired by an emerging cultural movement, whose style is invading our interiors again today. Break free of your bonds, for the best... In the early 1980s, social centres increasingly developed recreation for the housing estate residents. Hip hop comes to France: DJs, rap, breakdancing, and graffiti invades the streets. The expansion of this culture finds its place at a time when the street was the meeting place, where minds were turned toward discovery and movement. When you live in interior that is too narrow, constrained, what do you do? Stay inside, hidden away, pondering your misfortune, or go out, live outside...?

MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 16

Beyond the framework of conventions, hip hop culture accompanied a new way of living, in the ghettos of New York, then in France, in the heart of the housing estates. This revival is the source of creation, so much so that people who had a large apartment also wanted to find a little culture at home... Creativity becomes free, even rebellious... It's expressed everywhere, especially where it's not expected. Colourful, playful but inspired, it positioned itself as an observer of the human condition.

82

A cult year 1982 marked the release of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, and the theatrical release of two cult films, "ET" and "Blade Runner." A supernatural wind was blowing in art, between demons and futurism, a shadow filtered between the colours and the glitter, making the lights even brighter, phosphorescent... After a short period of euphoria, attention again turned to the night. "Blade Runner," with its dark, baroque, captivating world, its schizophrenic vision of a city plunged into night time, swarming with an artificial life in constant motion, lit only by neon signs, introduced a style that would mark many cinematic, and even artistic, creations. 1982 is definitely the year of the street, dark or light, place where everything is possible, an artificial landscape, created and lighted by man.

everyday structure, walls take on colours, but not necessarily uniformly... Stickers, posters or reproductions of graffiti or stencils by street artists monopolize our walls for unique, free, and vibrant interiors. In an extension of this trend, more and more young artists, for quite affordable prices, will come right to your home to paint directly on the walls of your house or apartment, for an inspired dĂŠcor, inevitably...

1982 design in our interiors Today, street art is back on centre stage. These days, when customising the aesthe-

1982 also saw the birth of the Audimat TV ratings measurement device. While material pleasures peaked at the start of the decade, some artists pointed their finger to shadow, anything artificial, the endless race, the illusory quest for the ephemeral. Creative freedom, while unleashed at will in the cities, would also be seriously undermined by the new constraints of the coming economy... With this life lesson in hand, the current design trend appropriates the positive essence of this period, which remains a real time of creative effer-

tic and homes, opposing mass society, the

vescence and freedom.

A former textile factory in the heart of Oberkampf. Between RĂŠpublique and Bastille, around Rue Oberkampf, in the 19th century, a new working-class area dubbed MĂŠnilmontant grew up during the industrial revolution. Industrial by day, with its lively craftsmen's workshops, it became lively in the evening thanks to its cabarets. Hotel Fabric, housed in an old workshop, pays tribute to this blue-collar past.

Light, original version... A solarium overlooking the sea, furnished here with a comfortable outdoor lounge by MANUTTI invites us to relax in the cool night air. The square forms of the table and chairs let you imagine the comfort of the seat rooted firmly in the ground, welcoming, and offering a horizontal impression meant to be the continuation of the horizon. MANUTTI has had the very ingenious idea of completing this picture with white ceramic pedestals that bring verticality and also evoke a monolith, echoing the rocks nearby the patio. It all creates a coordinated ensemble, with the mineral element as the common thread. Like evoking a bright idea, these giant, surprising bulbs from NOW'S

HOME are a clever solution for illuminating this outdoor lounge while providing a humorous, playful wink to this very linear space. The roundness of their form harmoniously complements this poolside. The bulbs come resonate visually with the huge old Aleppo pine trees, which, like guards, dominate the pool. Through a clever use of intensity modulation, lights of different shapes and styles, scattered to the four corners of the pool area, emphasize or tone down the volumes. The olive tree is magnified by a NOW'S HOME spot light placed behind the tree as if the light was coming from its matter.

Light in all its forms... Lighting specialists are competing to offer us original, practical models. In a fine example of novelty, the Butterfly solar lamp from ILIGHTYOU is in the shape of a butterfly and flutters delicately in your home garden, it can be recharged inside or outside. It's very clever, with its mini USB port enabling it to charge smartphones, tablets, and speakers. For the garden, if stylized, clean lines are what you want, you can find different, equally original solutions at SMART & GREEN. Lines that blend at will with classic to contemporary design, but no one doubts that the very bucolic Butterfly version from ILIGHTYOU, with its rustic

colours will unleash your imagination. Gone are the romantic dinners with its pale light atmospheres, the new models from SMART & GREEN provide lighting quality on par with its aesthetic quality. Full sun, clear morning dawns or sunsets, all tastes are possible, and you can choose the light to measure, with a dimmer, ranging from the softest to the strongest. The mixed solution that combines function and lighting can be found in the beautiful Gota model from SMART & GREEN, a lighted flowerpot holder that blends into the dĂŠcor and lends it a magical touch.

When light is an art... Inspired by the subtle beauty of nature, the new VIBIA outdoor lighting collection was designed to accompany all evening outdoor activities. The use of LED technology as a lighting source allows you to borrow from the concepts of interior design and adapt them to outdoor use. The lights are considered movable elements, to perform two distinct functions of lighting and decoration, as designed by ROYALBOTANIA. All together, you can create original, custom visual scenarios to suit our desires. There are collections that blend furniture and lighting, like from VIBIA. Rational and architectural, lines are combined with so-

phistication to fit into spaces that are both natural and very design. The aim is to surprise while promoting visual comfort. From ROYALBOTANIA, we love to play with shapes and colours and evoke an artistic, poetic emotion that some will interpret as original or romantic depending on the their sensitivity. Creating magic and surprise with its walkway lights that radiate a star shaped light, and seems to invite you to walk down the path. For all forms, without any style limitation, whether the garden is rigorous or vaporous, there is a lighting solution to satisfy the most demanding of us.

Originality, in light‌ At a time when all the major chains are flooding the design market with their models sold all over the world, the true design trend is originality, and the creators from REPERE DES BELETTES get it. We are looking for an object by a passionate craftsman, with a unique

state of mind both in its design and in its implementation. Making us fall in love with lamps, lanterns, incredibly unexpected lighting strands, that's the challenge of HIND RABII; we love the lights that remind us of forgotten everyday objects, re-appropriated, magnified, and brought up to date. That's also the slant of LE REPERE DES BELETTES, with elegant inspection lamps, geometric and soft coloured strands of lights, plunging us into childhood reverie. Like the flowers and butterflies from HIND RABII, that fit perfectly in a clean, design environment and which add a touch of originality.

FOCUS on the workshop trend... The flea market and workshop trend also covers lamps and lighting installations. Many industrial designers are employing a vintage spirit that gives acclaim to our good old fashioned light bulbs. The bulbs are bare but still worked at LE REPERE DES BELETTES, and the exposed electrical wiring is sheathed with the finest materials. The approach is "carefully designed authentic" the inspection lamps and ceiling lamps are etched and patinated, we also are seeing the return of gooseneck lamps so dear to lovers of art deco, for the happiness of our exteriors. The pool coping, deck, and installations, are the setting for the pool, they give it style, aesthetics, comfort, and safety. This pool deck from FIDERBECK offers meticulous finishes with an exotic wood species that fits perfectly into its surroundings. Under the sun... Once the weather turns nice, the pool regains its irresistible attraction and its surroundings become a real living space. Going barefoot and scantily clad to take a swim, on a soft, decorative surface is a happiness made possible by the latest designer creations. There are mythical pools whose name alone brings to mind luxury and relaxation, and whose materials are instantly recognizable to send us into a unique atmosphere. On the deck, a mosaic of small pool tiles from ASAROTA, with hints of yellow, evoke the good life of the sixties and holidays in the sun. Small tiles of melted glass, enamel or ceramic, decorated with

a black cruciform frieze lend a graphic, playful side to this deck. The ASAROTA pool tiles deliberately contrast with the azure blue pool liner. For a very different, more earthy almost Mediterranean look, after basking in the clear water, we can give in to idleness on the welcoming BRADSTONE pavers warmed by the sun. A table and chairs invite you to relax in the shade of a patio umbrella. The pavers and pool decks are like none other when it comes to enhancing this typical summer space. For BRADSTONE JARDIN, the pool deck is made from a slab of reconstituted stone, for a very natural look.

Easygoing and well maintained... From a purely decorative viewpoint first and foremost, the swimming pool is an aesthetic asset to the house, even if you only use it occasionally, it brings a plus to the garden. The mere sight of a watery surface is refreshing and invigorating. It can be enhanced by subtle lighting, tiling with shimmering colours, or with designer inflatable furniture, toys for big kids from DESJOYAUX. Designers and pool specialists offer a whole world based around the pool. Having a pool is, of course, a delight for adults and children alike, but the ultimate is to add a spa to your pool, in order to completely transform it and

make it a place of absolute relaxation. As for maintenance, that too is very simple, as TOUCAN offers a range of products to protect the quality of your swim. To help you further delight your body, your mind, and your senses, DESJOYAUX offers spa accessories to flatter the senses. In its range of accessories, the novelty are essential oils to transform your swimming and massage sessions into genuine aromatherapy moments. Depending on your desire, you can choose between different fragrances and choose the fragrance that best suits you. If that's not happiness, it sure looks like it...

Natural becomes you... Totally in keeping with the times, ecological and environmental awareness comes into our gardens and modifies our conception of swimming and the swimming pool. In a wooded area, this beautiful natural rectangular pool is lined with aquatic plants to create a space that

is respectful of swimmers and the environment. Natural pools are regulated by aquatic plants that also have the advantage of integrating into our gardens. The Oase range from LIVING WATER offers a harmonious installation system that integrates into nature and evolves with the seasons and climatic variations. New techniques combine the multidisciplinary know-how of architects and landscape designers. With the system of poolside edges from LIVING WATER, it is possible to quickly create gossamer barriers around the pool, but also borders for lawns, flowerbeds, garden paths. And the chore of pool maintenance turns into the pleasure of gardening...

Focus on pool covers... Design, rectangular with the pure, clean lines this contemporary swimming pool is presented in a wooden setting. For four-season use, ULTIMA COVER is both a summer and winter cover, and safety barrier. The automatic cover combines many advantages, once rolled up, the ULTIMA COVER is out of sight, respecting the aesthetics of the pool, what's more, it is especially safe because it is not possible to access the water even at the edge of the pool. It literally rests on the pool surface, which enables it to have strong resilience. MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 16

The restoration of the Cloister garden goes back to the early twentieth century. One striking feature about this cloister is its size and shape: vastly-proportioned, it is rectangular, not square in shape, with its east-west galleries measuring 48.35m, and 46.80m for the other two. This enclosed space was, until 2009, in a state of very heterogeneous and simplified presentation, with the disappearance of the great yews whose silhouettes previously punctuated the periphery of the cloister. In the cloister's architecture and dĂŠcor, the plants are stylised, simplified, and suggest the mastery of nature which must remain harmonious.

the Nine Squares garden, with its medieval inspiration, an evocation in landscape form of the medieval world, was designed to host exhibitions on plants, their uses and the views we have on them. The structure of the garden, in live braided willow sandwiched between the refectory and the monks' kitchens, can be seen year-round, and the plants are in place naturally throughout their life cycle.

The garden is like a carpet of plants rolled out on the ground, without a break in levels, respectful of the registered site it is a part of. Its layout evokes the stone garden consisting of the ruins of the Cistercian abbey. The shape of the square beds was inspired by those of the classic vegetable garden, already in the gardens of the cloister and the Nine Squares.

The composition works by the contrast between the hedges that lend structure to the space (yew, boxwood, hornbeam, hazel, etc.) and the plant border. Six squares, measuring 18m on each side, a palette, and a meadow orchard, structure the 9,000m2 plot which hosts 160 varieties of vegetables, 3,000 plants and 60 fruit trees (apple, pear, cherry) pruned to form four arms, on cord or staked.

Mama Shelter Istanbul: a welcoming place at the crossroads of the world...

MCOMMEMAISON INTERACTIVE - No. 16

Š PepAvila

The inspired, humanist trio; Serge Trigano, Philippe Starck, and Alain Senderens, dreamed up and created a "Mama Shelter" in the line of the top Paris and Marseille hotels. The hotel is located in the heart of a lively Istanbul neighbourhood, the city that gracefully rubs elbows with Europe and Asia...

The essence of Mama Shelter... The dĂŠcor of this place--funny, creative--and the appointments promoting discussion and openness, provide the "Mama Shelter" signature. The city of Istanbul, in itself, perfectly reflects the spirit of the concept. A bridge between Europe and Asia, Istanbul, while bearing a unique soul, symbolises openness to the "other," where differences come together to create a new world. It's this new, open world, with a peaceful humanity, that the initiators of "Mama Shelter" dreamed of. The hotels, friendly and funny, have one primary purpose: building relationships between people. Mama Shelter Istanbul was designed like a village square, for locals and travellers alike. The home bar

is a meeting place for musical, cultural and human encounters. Large tables wooden encourage animated discussions, side by side. The forty eight coloured buoys hanging over the bar are a reminder that you shouldn't take yourself seriously, but rather that the essential, the raw, the real, remains in these moments, similar to those of children, where the heart speaks instead of reason. On the patio, small pots of colourful flowers, worthy of an adorable grandmother's balcony, graphically distributed across the wall, are a reminder that openness to the new and unity with what is considered incompatible, that is the starting point of creation.

An artist who got his start in graffiti, ADEK has given rise to a subversive universe embodied by a colourful and generous aesthetic, at the crossroads between street at and pop art. His nickname (an abbreviation of "Adequate") and his style were forged on the walls of Paris over several years, during which a spontaneous passion for graffiti cohabited with his DJing and music production activities. In 2009, ADEK decided to devote himself exclusively to painting. He opted for a studio practice and work on canvas allowing him to deploy in-depth a vast imagination which combines urban culture, pop icons and references to modern and contemporary art. Heir to his masters, ADEK is open to the influence of the colourist work by Matisse, the geometric rigor of Vasarely,

So that the owners can take full advantage of the interior spaces while having the feeling of staying outside, the architect chose, from the home's conception, to multiply the bay windows and large openings. For this he called on KAWNEER to produce all the custom aluminium joinery.
