DECREBIS
ABSTRACT
Decrebis “D’Arte una mano” is a participatory art project currently happen ing in public spaces across the Italian territory. The project was born in 2019, as a response to the anti-migration policies of the European Union, and the increasing hateful campaigns against diversity in Italy.
An initial idea from an Italian artist and a Colombian Architect, became a reality when multiple organisations, education institutions and diverse stake holders, gather to implement two sets of participatory art workshops, in or der to create an evolving sculpture piece that has now been exhibited in cities as Rome, Florence and Modena.
Both the workshops and the public exhibitions are intended to encourage participants to share the importance of diversity, education and freedom of expression, while inviting general public to fully understand the negative consequences on nationalist discourses, anti-diversity speeches and the pro motion of static ideas of identity.
In 2019, the initiative completed art and education sessions in fives differ ent cities and had three public exhibitions in well-known public spaces, as the Parliament square in Rome. The project besides encouraging citizens to “raise their hands against racism” has opened a door to activism in the Italian art sphere.
