Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013

.........................................................................................

A Hip & Trendy Fashion Parade

Introduction: High heels, steady walk and loud music— Yes, you guessed right, fashion week is back with some amazing designer collections and updates for Spring/Summer 2013. PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week brought together almost 52 designers from all around Pakistan; the council has been successful in displaying a unique, positive image of our country before the rest of the world. Despite some overdone fashion displays, we managed to pick between the refreshers and the disasters. Let’s turn back to the past week and analyze some high and lows of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week:

High and Lows of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013: ...................................................................................................................

PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week comprised of a four day journey and all four days started with voile shows by different textile companies. The highest points were given to Sara Shahid because of her originality in her collection while lowest points were attributed to those who failed to produce a fashion forward collection. Day-1, Day-2, Day-3, Day-4 of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013 was styled by the creative team at NABILA, at TONI&GUY (Lahore) while male models were styled by Khawar Riaz and Maram&Abaroo.

Tapu Javeri Tapu Javeri presented his Spring/Summer line of prints, bags and scarves titled ‘Tapulicious’. The collection drew inspiration from the architecture of Karachi. The collection was an amalgamation of signature elements from the top notch designers like Sadaf Malattere, Rizwan Beyg, Wardha Saleem, & Adnan Pardesy.

Misha Lakhani Misha Lakhani presented her collection titled ‘Configurations’ – a collection which embraced women feeling feminine and having fun with prints, colours and fluidity. Hip, trendy and chic—the designer didn’t fail to contribute her personal essence to her collection.

FnkAsia Huma Adnan’s inspiration was from ‘East of Bengal’ and we feel the unique and sensuous cuts of her outfits saved her collection from going down the wrong road. Famous film star and top model Humaima Malick was the star of the show as she put the ramp on fire with her charm.

Élan Honestly speaking, as fashion enthusiasts, we were expecting more from Khadija Shah this season but she didn’t completely fail to impress. Inspired by Keats’ ‘Ode to a Nightingale’, Élan worked shimmering fabrics into well-constructed collection. The collection consisted of lightly draped asymmetric dresses, softly structured skirts, intricately crafted pleated jumpsuits, body grazing wrap dresses, kimono styled jackets, cigarette pants and billowy tops.

Sublime by Sara Hip, trendy, colourful, loud, funky, stylish and what not…. Sara Shahid’s sublime made the audience spellbound with her latest collection that was all about playing with colours. Her collection titled ‘NOW, Summer Sublime 2013’, was inspired by designer’s motto – “live for the moment.”

Akif Mahmood We won’t be brutally critical if we suggest Akif Mahmood’s collection as the worst collection of the evening. The collection titled ‘Montage’ was inspired from an art collage but in reality; it was more related to tribal designs that appeared quite chaotic.

SaniaMaskatiya Chic, trendy, on point and hip are the few words that can be associated to Maskatiya’s new collection titled ‘Ahgaaz’. The designer used very strong images of dragons, serpents and birds with bold geometrics and florals on a variety of fabrics such as raw silks, crepes, chiffons embroidered, digitally printed fabrics and screen prints.

Maria B One question that came to our mind after viewing Maria’s collection is why she chose to recycle Shalwar Kameez prints for palazzo pants and jumpsuits. The only bright aspect in ‘The Sunshine Collection’ was the bright candy colour schemes.

Shehla Chatoor Shehla’s latest collection was an ode to the eloquence of architecture and the splendor of ornament. The silk fabric was beautifully used with gold chains, metallic mesh, streaming tassels and lattice-like leather cut-work embellishments to complete the look.

Ayesha Hashwani Ayesha Hashwani’s ‘Cruise Collection 2013’ was nothing out of the box or different. The designer lacked originality, even with the use of bright tones paired with appliques, printed and embroided pants, the collection failed to make an impact on the viewer’s mind.

Feeha Jamshed Feeha explored some amazing cuts and silhouettes with unique chequered and striped designs in black and white tones. The long evening gowns and stylish pants were a complete package for women who are daring enough to stand out in a society.

Yahsir Waheed Yahsir definitely set high standards this time with his collection titled ‘The Realm of Senses’. He was daring and modern with his collection. We would certainly call him ‘The risk taker’ for this season.

Asifa & Nabeel The duo is always renowned for their contemporary cuts and unique array of color. This year they drew inspiration from an artist called Omar and his work - an artist with life altering disabilities who had met everyday challenges through his art. The artistic pants were fused with simple chiffon fabric while the colour scheme was out of this world.

Rizwan Beyg This was the moment which everyone waited for; the world famous Pakistani designer Rizwan Beyg showcased his collection on the ramp after a long time. The truck art inspired collection ‘Rangg’ showed young designers that they still needed to break a leg by working really hard in this fashion industry. The use of finest fabrics like the crushed chiffon, sheer silk georgette, leather and heavy silks combined with vibrant colour schemes made the audience fall in love with each piece that was put on the ramp. The truck art was never refined as before and created a mood of patriotism, very befitting for this particular season.

Nida Azwer Ladies if you need our advice in making your summer closet look trendy then you should get your hands on Nida Azwer’s latest collection, ‘The William Morgan & Morris’’. The designer created some intricate floral and fantastical bird patterns. Although the risk factor was missing, it was a balanced and pretty collection.

Sana Safinaz Who wasn’t in love with Sana Safinaz? The fashion critics, the editors, the audience, everyone went crazy after the duo’s collection. ‘Urban Chic’ brought forward the aesthetic sense of the designers that was crafted well with the use of variety of fabrics embellishments and accessories such as silks, jerseys, crystals and beads in a vibrant array of colour.

Adnan Pardesy The long floor length gowns were badly matched with shirts and short tops. The intricacy of his craft was sorely missed and it seemed like the designer had lost his inspiration.

Ali Xeeshan Ali Xeeshan, the one man who proved that he can bring diversity to the ramp using one color. He depicted a new aesthetic and portrayed uniqueness though cuts, designs and embellishments. Model Meesha Shafi looked like a Mughal princess draped in white, carrying herself with grace and poise.

HSY Whenever this name appears somewhere, we automatically link it to something more creative and marvelous. But unfortunately, Hassan’s focus seemed to be on choreography as opposed to designing clothes. Day-4’s finale was presented by the inimitable HSY who showcased his Spring/Summer 2013 Collection titled ‘Believe’ in collaboration with Italian watchmaker ToyWatch.

................................................................................................................... The PFDC fashion week was produced and choreographed by HSY Events, with front stage management by Maheen Kardar Ali, backstage management by Maria Baig, logistics and operations by Eleventh Retail, digital support by Maria Butt and B Solutions and photography by Faisal Farooqui and the team at Dragonfly. Foreign media management was handled by Latitude, national PR by Lotus Client Management & Public Relations, with Sara Shahid of Sublime by Sara as the official spokesperson for the PFDC.
