‘Ayesha – all the leaves are brown’ Layla Chatoor to present at PFW 2013

Fashion designer Layla Chatoor is set to showcase her new Spring/Summer collection on the 3rd day of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week on April 28, 2013 in Lahore. This is in the second time Layla Chatoor will be showing at the PFDC platform; having previously showcased a bridal/ trousseau collection at the PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week in October 2012. For her PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week collection “Ayesha – all the leaves are brown”, Layla Chatoor has drawn inspiration from the vintage 1931 print ‘Ayesha’, as maintained at the coveted Victoria & Albert Museum archives, consisting of landscapes of leaves, entwining blossoms, birds, deer and floral motifs. The collection features a lot of embroidery and Layla incorporated a traditional zardozi technique with modern laser cutting to create fashion forward looks. Chatoor uses cuts and silhouettes that are aristocratic, glamorous and elegant – her muse is a modern day Grace Kelly. To this end, the designer’s creations include regal robes, draped dresses and peplum skirts in colors inspired by autumn leaves including brown, olive green, rust, deep yellows, coral and dark maroon. Speaking about her collection, Layla Chatoor said “My philosophy has always been to create collections that are elegant and modern at the same time; cuts that mould to the feminine form— draped and carefully created. This remains my inspiration for my PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week collection and I look forward to my first pret a porter runway show at this prestigious platform” Having launched in 1994, the Layla Chatoor brand name has come to be synonymous with high quality bridal wear, luxury pret and evening wear using rich, opulent fabrics such as tulle, lamé, silks and chiffons. Her forte lies in her unwavering attention to detail and meticulously designed motifs. Layla also produces luxury accessories to complement her ensembles using the highest quality leather, fabrics and gemstones. The PSFW collection will be available at the brand’s flagship store in Karachi from May 6, 2013 [on orders only]. wo important books with a rich religious content have recently been published from Faisalabad, their respective authors being an acclaimed scholar and educationist Ch. Anwaar Ahmad and a popular company executive Muhammad Bashir Haral. This review is intended to cover both of them.
Aaina-e-Haqiqat
In the beginning of the book, the author acknowledges the invaluable influence of Allama Abdur Rahman Kainati (who was a meritorious religious scholar) on his mind and temperament and regards him as his mentor. Further, in the preface, he proclaims that the contents of the book in view are rooted in the Holy Qur’an. Choosing the essential Islamic beliefs and their practical manifestation, he has ventured to counter the misunderstandings created by some unwarranted interpolations and assimilate them in a manner warranted by reason rather than conjecture or any biased consideration. The book comprises as many as 202 topics including the epilogue. The author discusses them with a great deal of clarity and precision in the light of the Holy Qur’an. His style is terse but convincing. The book is split into two parts. Major themes elaborated in the first part pertain to the concept of Islam and its cardinal beliefs viz., Tawheed, Risalat, Angels, Holy Scriptures, and Akhirat. The author has attempted to correct some common misconceptions in the interpretation of these beliefs in conformity with the word and spirit
of the Holy Qur’an.
