Join the early years team in these fun, interactive and creative music sessions. In age-based groups of no more than 15, your child will receive individual attention as well as the chance to interact with musicians and other children. LSO players will join us for the last few sessions. Group allocation depends on the ages of the children drawn*. £95 full-term booking only *Due to the popularity of these workshops, places are drawn out of a hat. LSO Singing Days provide an exciting opportunity to get to grips with classic and iconic choral works. Led by experienced choral directors, the day starts with singing workshops followed by an informal performance. Some sight-singing ability is required. Join LSO Choral Director Simon Halsey on 4 January when he’ll lead a workshop on selected arias and choruses from Haydn’s Creation. The Novello edition of the score, with English libretto, will be used and both the workshop and the performance will be accompanied by piano. On 25 January, LSO Community Choir conductor David Lawrence will lead a workshop on Rachmaninov Vespers. Tickets £17 per day (includes music hire) Please indicate your voice part when booking. A day of activities looking at music by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, with access to an LSO rehearsal, a chamber music session, a detailed Q&A with LSO players and insight from guest presenter BBC Radio 3’s Sara Mohr-Pietsch.

A Gamelan is a musical ensemble from Indonesia featuring gongs, metallophones, drums and bamboo flutes. Led by Andy Channing, all parts are different and range from simple to more difficult, so anyone can have a go. Performance opportunities are offered throughout the year, as well as weekly workshops.

Jaap Van Zweden prepares the Orchestra for a Barbican concert on 9 February which features Beethoven Piano Concerto No 3 and Rachmaninov Symphony No 2.

Led by Andy Channing, the LSO’s Community Gamelan Group and guests Lila Cita and Lila Bhawa will perform traditional and contemporary music on LSO St Luke’s beautiful Balinese gamelan. Immerse yourself in mesmerising music and dance from this integral part of Indonesian culture.

You will be one of 1,000 local people celebrating the energy and excitement of crowds performing a new work by American composer David Lang. You’ll get the chance to work with LSO Choral Director Simon Halsey and Community and Youth Choir Conductor David Lawrence in the lead up to and on the day of this exciting performance. The Digital Technology Group (DTG) is an initiative set up by the LSO to support aspiring young musicians, composers and producers (aged 13 to 20) in the local area. Whether your interests are in rock, hip-hop or classical music, DTG can provide you with the skills to record and produce your music using professional studio equipment.

Get a glimpse into a composer’s creative process and watch from the audience as this year’s Panufnik Young Composers develop their music with the LSO, joined by conductor François-Xavier Roth and composition director Colin Matthews. Featuring works by Kim Ashton, Benjamin Graves, Jae-Moon Lee, Elizabeth Ogonek, James Moriarty, Aaron Parker and Richard Whalley.

Musicians from the Guildhall School will be coached by LSO Principal Viola Paul Silverthorne (8 Feb) and LSO Principal Flute Adam Walker (13 Feb) as part of the Guildhall’s Orchestral Artistry course which is focused on developing the diverse skills required to become professional orchestral musicians.
