‘The 2017/18 season is full of last pieces – sometimes pieces the composers didn’t hear themselves,’ says Sir Simon Rattle. He explores late works by Rameau, Bartók, Janáček, Berg and Carter this spring, along with a rarely-heard collaboration between some of the biggest composers of the 20th century, the Genesis Suite.
‘With 2018 being a hundred years since the death of Debussy I wanted to find a way to celebrate this major figure in music history,’ writes François-Xavier Roth. ‘I thought it would be great to have three different programmes that guide us through Debussy’s music, from his influences through to whom he influenced.’ Join us for orchestral and chamber works in the French composer’s centenary year.
‘Over the past decade and more, the LSO has worked with nearly 200 young and emerging composers,’ writes composer Colin Matthews. ‘The LSO has made this undertaking because it believes that new music is part of the lifeblood of the repertoire.’ Watch Colin Matthews work with members of the Panufnik Composers Scheme, and hear the world premiere of Panufnik alumnus Ewan Campbell’s commission.
