Ways To Combat Climate Change Speak Up $0 Talking to your friends and family about the effects of climate change and posting on social media sends a message to the people in charge that they should do something about climate change.

Reusable Water Bottles $5-$60 Reusable water bottles are helpful in reducing the amount of plastic in ȍŔȥƎ˪ȍȍɽ࡫ ȶƃơŔȥɽ ŔȥƎ ȶʋǠơɭ ɢȍŔƃơɽ࡫ while also reducing your carbon footprint as reusable water bottles take less oil to produce than plastic water bottles.

Public Transportation $100-$1,000 a month Cars and planes bring an overwhelming amount of pollution into the air. If you can avoid it, use a train, bus, metro or bike.

Solar Panels $9,198-$16,044 Solar panels give you cleaner energy that comes from the sun, while electricity comes from fossil fuels which harm the environment.

Electric cars $35,000-$124,000 Electric cars reduce your amount of pollution tremendously because they have zero exhaust emission. A great way to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions even more. Photos by Ellie Fischman, Lena Nadaner and Ethan Kulp (‘20)

Q&A

1 3 2

How did you get introduced to fencing? I was at a sleepover at [a friend’s] house and that night he was doing fencing, so I decided to go with them. And from then on, I went with him every week. For a while, I didn’t do it competitively, but then the past couple years, I’ve picked it up a lot more competitively. It was an art originally, there were masters and stuff like that. Now it’s more of a sport and athletic.

How does fencing compare to other sports you’ve played? It’s a one-on-one sport, which adds that intensity and mental mindset. It’s not like a team sport where you count on your other teammates. It’s just you out there; it’s all ˊȶʠࡲ zʋ Ǝơ˪ȥǫʋơȍˊ ɢʠʋɽ Ŕ ȍȶʋ ȶlj pressure and burden upon you. ơɭ ɭŹ ơ b ʋʋ ƃȶ ò ˊ Ź ʋȶ ȶ áǠ

What could one do to achieve an ideal mental state for fencing? The biggest thing is being aware of everything, but you can’t be overthinking…. [When you care] about the pressure of the point and what the score is, it slows you down. You have to forget all of that. It is just you and your opponent out there.

Describe the craziest experiences you’ve had while fencing. One day I fought this girl who was an alumni.
