earners at Temperance Town Primary School (TTPS) and Sir Lowry’s Pass Village were treated to a life-changing VBS Holiday Camp program during the April 2011 school holidays. Presented by Ingodwe Trust and EEIII members and volunteers, this important, Bible-based curriculum kept kids occupied with fun-filled games, songs, activities, Bible memory verses, and even Life Skills tips and training.

Positive Feedback “We have been receiving very positive feedback from community members andparents as to the effectiveness of this pro-

gram,” says TTPS Principal, Edith Opperman. “Even the atmosphere in the area seems to have improved. While many parents are working during the holidays, the kids are kept safely occupied, receiving important instruction, and in many cases, even their emotional attitudes are being positively affected.” Principal Opperman attributes the INGODWE Trust/EEIII Holiday Camp program’s success to its excellent content, presentation, caring attitude of team members, and the relevant ways in which they approach the learners. dear readers, It’s the school holidays and many families are taking the opportunity to spend quality time together. Taking time to rest is vital as we get to recharge our batteries and ponder our future. And that’s what this edition’s featured articles, titled “Building Mountain–Blasting Faith” and “See It...and you’ll accomplish it”, is about. It discusses the importance of finding your God-given purpose in life. When you have a powerful vision and purpose to live by, everything else tends to fall into place with it. Once you know what belongs to you, it is easy to take your dominion and activate your faith. Local Businesses Thanks again to our readers for supporting the Herald Info and the various businesses advertised. Remember to mention where you saw their ad. We’d like to welcome our new advertisers and trust you’ll be blessed. Find out more about these businesses in their editorial articles and adverts throughout this edition. Check out our featured “business on the move,” Multi Postman Services, Strand (see page 13). Things to Do, Places to See The Helderberg area is a truly beautiful area to live in, with a rich history and many interesting places to visit. As they say, “A change is as good as a holiday,” so we’ve included a few of these places in “4 things to do in the Helderberg area” on page 3. nature. We often receive positive feedback from readers and advertisers alike about Herald Info... many find the business editorials really useful and interesting–and helps them make informed purchases. Others say they have been touched and changed by the inspirational articles–which often contain a “word in season,” that helps one make life-changing decisions. One such report came from a person who had been standing on a bridge parapet, about to jump, when a man came past and handed him a Herald Info! He read the featured inspirational article, and right then turned his life around–and went from suicidal to successful! And that’s the reason our articles are Bible-based...because it is the “truth that sets us free.” (John 14:32). Christianity is the only “religion” that has a Saviour who took our sins away, offering you a place in heaven as a FREE gift! All others require you to perform “works,” and try to earn your way into heaven. The Busy Cook The Busy Cook has been really busy– try the delicious recipes for yourself, including “Toad in the Hole,” and “Chocolate-Banana Pancakes.” Yummy. Take Time Out It’s important to step back from the hustle and bustle of life sometimes, and give yourself a breather. Sit back and unwind with Herald Info “Time for a Laugh,” on page 15. Tackle the “Word Search” and “Sudoku”, and enjoy some humourous stories and jokes. “Kids Corner” on page 19 should keep ‘em busy, at least for a while! Happy reading... till next time,

Juanita, Lesley, Isabel & Andrew

“Many kids who are normally not very attentive in class, were focused and obviously enjoying every activity–a sure sign that the course is being truly effective.” Volunteers and Sponsorship The week was a huge success. It can be attributed to the quality of the presentation, the volunteers and to sponsorships by caring businesses and individuals. As a result the learners also enjoyed healthy snacks and drinks, and other ‘take home’ items. INGODWE Trust would like to thank everyone involved for their valuable contribution (sponsors listed below): • Appletiser (Sally-Anne Joubert & Riaan Marais) • Hope Explosion Youth Ministry • PNA Cape Gate • Work & Travel SA (Johan & Kim Scholtz) • Panarotti’s Somerset Mall (Sylvia) • Mr Words Writing & Photography (Andrew Cartwright) • Marieta Greyling Ingodwe Trust INGODWE Trust (IT569/2010) is a registered trust and PBO in South Africa, established in 2010. They specialise in HIV Education, Youth Mentorship and Leadership Development, and Entrepreneurship. INGODWE Trust currently operates within the Western Cape Province, with a strategy of national expansion and operation through the establishment of regional offices and teams. INGODWE Trust services communities by holding interactive audio-visual presentations at schools, businesses, town halls, and churches. They present these messages in exciting, relevant, memorable ways that inspire people to act on what they have seen and heard. Audiences are thus more informed and able to make informed choices when facing challenging situations in life. STD/HIV/AIDS Intervention INGODWE Trust’s primary objective, as a matter of urgency, is to fully deploy the INGODWE Trust STD/HIV/AIDS Intervention Campaign by sending teams and presentation materials to young people (learners) countrywide. To do so they are seeking substantial funding and donations–and invite government, businesses, donor funds, and concerned individuals everywhere to join forces with them in this quest. “We need to send our presentations to where they are most needed now as a matter of urgency–to the vulnerable youth of South Africa. Lives are depending on it,” says Christiaan van Wyk, INGODWE Trust Founder & Director. Saving Lives Statistics confirm the effectiveness of these educational methods, as evidenced by the impact and success of the Holiday Camp Program. Ingodwe Trust firmly believes that, through the presentation of its various programs, many young lives can be changed and even saved. The potential impact of this on the nation’s future will surely be felt for generations. Visit www.ingodwe.org for more information, or E-mail: info@ingodwe. org to discuss sponsorship/funding options.

Phytomedicine, a recently coined term, refers to herbal medicines that are a whole plant preparation, rather than a single isolated chemical compound (Phyto is the Greek word for plant). Capsules and pills take time to disintegrate in the stomach before being absorbed, whereas tinctures begin to be absorbed immediately when taken. Not all herbs are available fresh or even dried at all times. Tinctures however allow a large variety of herbs to be available at all times. One herb can treat many ailments, many herbs can treat one ailment.

HERALD INFO - INSPIRATION

Issue #193 / April/May 2011

–by Andrew Cartwright “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 2)

T

he Bible makes it clear that God wants us to prosper and be healthy - in every area of life! But why does God want to bless us so much? Because He loves people. God wants us to have more than enough for ourselves, and always be generous to others (John 3:16; Romans 8:32; 2 Cor. 9:8 TEV). The most powerful substance in existence Now how do we receive these wonderful promises of prosperity and health? The Bible says God is pleased when we have faith (Hebrews 11:6). And Jesus said if we have faith the size of a tiny mustard seed, it can move mountains! (Mark 11:23) That’s powerful stuff! Do you have any “mountains” in your life you’d like to move? The powerful substance called faith will do it–transforming our lives and situations, into that which God intends.

hearing God’s word? Release your faith to receive your harvest Now that faith has built up in our hearts to overflowing, what do we do to release it? Romans 10:8-11 tells us faith needs to be “in your heart... and in your mouth.” Faith is released when we SPEAK! Let’s say it’s healing that you need. You’ve continually heard what God’s word says about your healing. (Isaiah 53:3-5, 1 Peter 2:24...) Faith is in your heart. Then comes a day when revelation hits you, and you powerfully declare, “I’m healed!” Suddenly–faith is released and your body receives the physical manifestation of God’s promise! Praise God. Be Patient …imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. (Hebrews 6:12)

How to build faith Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the “substance” of things hoped for. The substance called faith provides us with spiritual evidence that a thing exists before it is ever seen in the physical world. The world says, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” God says, “Believe it first, then you’ll see it.” How then is this substance called faith formed? Romans 10:17 tells us, “faith comes by hearing the word of God.” Faith is built by HEARING the word of God! When we listen to, and think upon, God’s word through bible reading, preaching, teaching, CDs, DVDs, podcasts...faith is formed in us. Get 5 verses that apply to your situation; write them on cards and read them out loud daily. Memorise them. Faith will form in you.

In order to reap a large harvest, a farmer plants enough seed in fertile soil and waters it regularly, but then he waits patiently for the crop to grow. In the same way, when we plant God’s word in the fertile soil of our hearts, we need to give our faith time to grow to maturity. The diligent farmer also removes any stones and weeds from the fields which may damage or choke his expected crop! Similarly, we must forgive anyone who has hurt us in any way, or our harvest could be in danger of crop failure. (Matthew 6:12; Luke 8:4-15) God has, through Jesus’ death on the cross, already forgiven your sins–and theirs! Is there anyone you need to forgive? Do it now, praying God’s love and blessing over them. You’ll be amazed at what happens next.

Hear God’s word continually Jesus also said that anyone who continues in his word will know the truth, and then the truth will set you free (John 8:32) So we need to hear the word of God often for it to truly build powerful faith. When God wanted Joshua to be prosperous and successful, He instructed him to “meditate on the word day and night” (Joshua 1:8). The word “meditate” means to ponder, and also to mutter. We need to set aside quiet time every day to really think about, and speak out under our breath, appropriate bible verses to truly build our faith. What is your best time of day to spend time

Conclusion “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” (James 2:17). We first build faith, and believe we already have the thing that we prayed for! (see Mark 11:23-25). Then we ACT like we have it. “Faith works through love” (Galatians 5:6). A heart filled with God’s love is fertile ground in which faith can operate. When we accept Jesus as personal Saviour, God’s love is placed in us. Let’s allow His love to motivate everything we do. Faith, working through love, always succeeds! (1 Corinthians 13:8). It will blast every mountain of lack, illness and failure out of our way.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jer 29:11

m Van Zyl Builders And Waterproofers have been operating in the Western Cape for the past 12 years and in the Helderberg for 8 years. Morris Van Zyl, the owner and founder of the company, started out in business as the director and founder of Environmental Lazer Cape Town– once the largest supplier of remanufactured laser and inkjet cartridges to the aftermarket in the Western Cape. He strongly believes that although the product may differ, the basic business principles remain the same. Whether it is a laser cartridge or repairing someone’s roof– the same values apply. Their primary focus is service and quality without compromise and then workmanship. He firmly stands by the belief that even though most builders may offer a similar price or even a similar product, it is the builder’s responsibility to ensure his craftmanship and workmanship is up to standard. It’s a code that he and his employees honour, and it’s this guarantee that makes the real difference. GM Van Zyl owes its huge success in the Helderberg area to the creed of honesty and integrity that the company upholds. Morris maintains that if he did not have the employees that he has– he would not want to be in the building business. Everyone knows that the construction business has become a tough and competitive environment, and one does not need to have to worry about the integrity and the honesty of staff. Clients can have peace of mind in that they do not employ people off the streets. As a company, GM Van Zyl takes great pride in working with skilled staff with whom they have built a relationship

and who have proven themselves in the industry. They all have good references and have worked with the company for a long period of time. They can therefore vouch for their integrity and honesty. This is vital as the team often works without the home owners being present, and the testimonials that they receive are impeccable. Should you require a new house to be built, or simple alterations to be done such as giving your bathroom a facelift, or even just tiling– contact GM Van Zyl Builders And Waterproofers on 021 852 4962 or 079 514 9699 for your free no obligation quotation. They also specialise in the building of concrete pools and the painting of factories and houses.

HERALD INFO - INSPIRATION

H

Issue #193 / April/May 2011

–by Lesley Cartwright

ave you ever given any thought to where you are headed in your life? For most Christians, the destination is Heaven and this is where they stop. A lot of people are content to carry on with their lives as they know it. But, did you know that God has a plan that He wants to unfold in your life? Ephesians 2:10 says that “God planned for us to do good things and to live as he has always wanted us to live. That’s why he sent Christ to make us what we are.” Jeremiah: 29:11: “I will bless you with a future filled with hope--a future of success, not of suffering.” (CEV) The Word says that God prepared good works for us to walk in even before we were born. Each one of us has a purpose to fulfil and until we activate that and complete it, we will never be satisfied. Your future begins with a Vision What we need to do, is to go and spend intimate time with God and hear from Him. It is in this time that He will reveal the direction that He wants your life to take. When you become a God seeker, you will always stay on track with Him. Habakkuk 2:2: “Write the Vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.” When you sit and write your vision down, you begin to count the cost. When God entrusts His vision to you, you need to make it your own and work it out in your life. People with vision are restrained (Proverbs 29:18). They are single-minded in purpose. They don’t let distractions steal their time. They set measurable goals and continually work the plan. They are totally commited and hold onto it with dog-gone tenacity. Their endurance at running their race spurs them on to victory, and it ends confusion as well as quiets the doubting mind.

WORDSEARCH #7

Five Safeguards 1) The plan will require faith. There is no doubt about that. You will have to step out and have faith backbone. Don’t wait for everything to be in place before you will walk in it. 2) It will require courage. You are going into it without your natural abilities and giftings– even though this may be in play somewhere or other. God’s dream is bigger than you can ever imagine. Our outlook is limited and God’s is limitless! The Word says His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His Ways are higher than ours. God just needs our willingness and obedience (Isaiah 1:19). 3) It will line up with rest of the written Word. God will never tell you to do something that is in contradiction with His Word. 4) It will go against the reason and rationalization of the World. When God reveals His plan to you, it’s a good idea not to run out and share it with other people. There are “dream killers” out there who will try to stop you because they cannot see how you are going to accomplish it. That’s why God will reveal the plan to you one step at a time. He won’t give you the whole plan all at once. 5) Peace will rule your heart. The Holy Spirit speaks to you in a still small voice within your heart. If you are willing to listen to Him, He will save you a lot of heartache. When you see it– others will see it A dream believed is a reality achieved. When God’s dream becomes big on the inside of you, it will begin to spill out onto all those around you. Dream the plan and plan the dream. Never underestimate the power of vision in your life. It will radically transform your future and influence people. So, dream God’s dream!

The Best Decision Ever If you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, pray the following and in turn make Jesus your Lord.

SODUKU #6

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, ‘Whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved’ and ‘If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved’ (Acts 2:21, Rom 10:9-10). I take you at Your Word. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. Thank you for coming into my heart, for giving me Your Holy Spirit as You have promised, and for being Lord over my life. Amen! If you have prayed this prayer, please write and let us know of your decision at lesley@heraldinfo.co.za
