Activity • Discuss the Essential Questions. • Find the word of the month in KidzEra—April’s word is HAIRDO. Discuss what the word means to your students and study different definitions of the word, and the etymology of it. • Play a word association game with the word—what does the word make them think of? Discuss parts of speech and how they might be translated visually: i.e. a verb might be an action photo; an adjective might lend itself to saturated color, etc.
• Have your students take pictures that represent the word, interpreting the different meanings of the word visually. • Collect and display the pictures. Discuss the different interpretations that students came up with. Have students critique one another’s photographs. • View the pictures on KidzEra.com with the same word and have students discuss those interpretations as well. • Have students write an artist’s statement explaining their drives and motivations for taking a picture of what they did. • Encourage students to get a user account at KidzEra.com and upload the pics they’ve clicked! They are also welcome to send pictures through the mail. Be sure to include a submission form with each mailed in entry.
