JMU Duke Club Laura Mesa, Junior Golf

Hometown: Manizales, Colombia Major: International Business

Why did you choose JMU? Because of the golf program and the renowned business school.

To Duke Club Members: “Thanks to all the people that support our teams. It is great to play for the school and feel supported not only by our coaches and teammates but also by all the people that contribute to our program.”

Matt Goff, Redshirt Junior Football

Hometown: Fairfax, Va. Major: Masters degree in Kinesiology – Sport Leadership

Why did you choose JMU? Tradition on having a great football program, strong academic background, beautiful location, and how close it is to home.

What are your goals for the future? The goal that I hope to accomplish through my work is to make a difference in the lives of the people I interact with. I hope to lead the youth of this country towards making their lives a success.

To Duke Club Members: “It is a privilege to compete at the division one level against the best talent and have the ability to attend JMU, a university with high academic standards. Being able to compete on the field and work on getting my masters has been fun and challenging. None of this would be possible without the donors of this program and I thank them all for being so gracious and supporting this university.”

Tom Martin

Men’s Soccer Head Coach “The Duke Club is the lifeblood of our athletic programs and provides endless opportunities for studentathletes to live their dream. The Duke Club’s consistent growth has enabled my program to grow as well which is essential in today’s economy. We simply could not function without the Duke Club.”

Dawn Evans, Junior Basketball

Hometown: Clarksville, Tenn. Major: Health Sciences “Playing basketball here at James Madison has literally been a dream come true for me. Back in Clarksville, Tennessee where I grew up, I always had a great amount of support from my friends and family. The unconditional support that the Duke Club offers the student-athletes here has made Madison a home away from home for me. The generous donations they make allow us to continue our education and compete in our sport at a high level. I could not imagine myself anywhere else. I am so grateful for the amount of passion that the members of the Duke Club show every time a Madison team takes the court or walks on to the field. Their commitment to athletics inspires each and every student-athlete to strive to be the best they can be.”

David Herbek, Junior Baseball

Hometown: Haymarket, Va. Major: Health Service Administration

Why did you choose JMU? The blend of excellent academics and an outstanding baseball tradition made choosing JMU an easy decision.

What are your goals for the future?

Matt Brady

Men’s Basketball Head Coach “Being a member of the Duke Club is really important to me because it means I am doing something tangible to enhance our student-athletes’ experience here at JMU. They are great ambassadors for our school and they need everyone’s support, including whatever we can do to fund the Duke Club and its mission.”

I would like to pursue a career in baseball after college, and beyond that, a career in health service administration. I believe that playing baseball at JMU and a degree from this university will enable me to excel in both areas.

To Duke Club Members: “Being a student-athlete is a unique experience that teaches you lessons about life on the playing field, in the classroom, and among the JMU community that will help me to succeed in life during and after college.”

JMU Duke Club Tax Implications & Matching Gifts All benefits associated with each specific giving level are automatically accepted by the donor unless the donor submits in writing to the Duke Club any benefits he/she wants to decline . Additionally, the written declination of benefits must be received along with the donor’s first payment toward his/her annual pledge . A declination of benefits is irrevocable for the 2010 Duke Club year . Example:

Sharon is a Bluestone Level Duke Club member . Benefits under Bluestone include the opportunity to purchase as many as six (6) football priority season tickets with hospitality passes not to exceed the number of football season tickets purchased as well as priority parking . Also included is the opportunity to purchase lower level season tickets in men’s basketball with hospitality passes not to exceed the number of men’s basketball season tickets purchased as well as priority parking .

If Sharon plans to purchase only two (2) football priority season tickets WITH hospitality and only (3) three men’s basketball season tickets WITH hospitality, then she would need to send notification in writing, and at the time of payment to decline any additional hospitality to maximize her tax benefit and/or company matching policy . Otherwise, it will be an automatic assumption that Sharon will want the maximum number of tickets and hospitality passes and dollar values for all will be excluded from her actual donation when reporting for tax purposes and/or company matching . Also, if she does not send written notification to decline priority parking, the dollar values for football and men’s basketball priority parking will be excluded from the initial donation amount as well . PLEASE NOTE ON YOuR PLEDGE/DONATION CARD (page 12) your choice regarding the number of season tickets, hospitality and priority parking provided at the respective giving level . # Tickets ____ Football Priority Season Tickets WITH-WITHOuT hospitality and WITH-WITHOuT priority parking . # Tickets ____ Men’s Basketball Season Tickets WITH-WITHOuT hospitality and WITH-WITHOuT priority parking parking . Appropriate benefit values are deducted from your donation amount after the 80/20 rule has been calculated .

Decline All Benefits There is also an area on the pledge/donation card where you may indicate that you wish to decline ALL benefits associated with your donation, including ticket and parking priority based on Duke Club ranking . Declining ALL benefits makes your donation to the Duke Club 100% tax deductible .

Company Match The information above is relevant to matching funds as well, explaining how the actual donation, less benefits amount, is calculated as an appropriate requested amount for matching funds . If you want to aspire to a higher donor level through matching funds, please check the following box on your pledge/donation card . Otherwise, benefits will be awarded solely on your personal pledge, and matching dollars will have no impact on donor level or benefits received . Please consider my expected company match + my personal pledge combined for donor level I will pay by December 31, 2010, any and all balances expected/pledged level . expected/pledged . Note: “Personal” pledge refers to your individual pledge, excluding any expected matching monies. When a donor is eligible and wants to apply for matching funds through a company, the donor typically submits a company match form to the Duke Club with each payment he/ she wants matched matched . Restrictions and rules specific to each matching company apply . If a donor wants his/her giving level to be determined on the donor’s personal pledge and the donor’s company match combined, then the donor must agree in writing to pay any and all balances expected/pledged by the end of the calendar year year . Barry Saadatmand Richmond Chapter Donor Testimonial “During my time at JMU, I felt the one thing that was missing from my college experience was a big time athletic program and corresponding culture and atmosphere . JMU is definitely heading in this direction now and by being a part of the Duke Club, and specifically by being a Duke Club Rep, I feel like I’m a part of this transformation . If we really want to capture the opportunity of the big time athletic program that is currently happening at JMU, it’s up to alumni and fans to step up and get involved to make it happen . That’s why I’m an active financial and time contributor to the Duke Club .”

No . Any individual who wants to support JMU Athletics and our student-athletes can be a Duke Club member .

How do I keep the same tickets I had last season?

Every Duke Club member who has made their required annual contribution and submitted their ticket renewal by the Priority deadline is guaranteed their same season tickets from the prior season . In the event of ticket reseating, all Duke Club members are welcome to request seats, which will then be allocated based on Priority Points .

When will the next football and basketball reseating cycle be?

For basketball, reseating will take place in early October, and for football, before the 2011 season . Priority Point rank will determine the order of seat selection .

I want my season tickets to be in a better location. How do I upgrade my seats?

All Duke Club members are welcome to request different seating during the preseason renewal process process . If seats are available, requests will be granted in order of Priority Points . Points Some locations require a certain Duke Club giving level (i .e . chairback tickets require an annual Duke Club gift of at least $1,500) . In the event of ticket reseating (next in 2011), all Duke Club members are welcome to request seats, which will then be allocated based on Priority Points . Points

I ordered season tickets, but cannot make it to every game. What can I do with my unused tickets?

Refer to the Priority Points section (page 4) to see how Priority Points are allocated in return for unused tickets and passes . parking passes Season ticket holders are also encouraged to re-sell their unused tickets using Madison Marketplace, earning money back and ensuring that other JMU fans can attend the game game . Check JMUSports . com for all the details on Madison Marketplace .

Do you need to give a Duke Club donation to get season tickets?

Yes . For the 2010 football season, all new season ticket orders require an annual Duke Club donation . Season ticket orders for Priority Seating require an annual contribution of at least $125 $125 .

I make gifts to other areas in the university. Do I receive any benefits for those gifts?

Priority points are granted to all donors who make a gift to the athletic department department . Duke Club benefits are granted exclusively to donors who provide gifts to the Duke Club’s general fund, which are then used to support the scholarship needs and offset the operational budget of the JMU Athletics Department . Contributions to other areas of JMU do not support athletics and therefore do not earn Priority Points or other benefits involving athletics .
