The Sun island


Sun island Our island is situated near Cancun on the Caribbean. It's called Sun Island. It is circular and it has small islands around it. Our island has five governors: Sandra, Gema, Estela, Carlota and Fran. On our island we have a restaurant that served typical dishes from there. In our island are served very typical dishes of Mexico, the USA, Brazil, Jamaica and Canada.

Staple foods The cuisine includes a lot of baked foods, wild game and gathered food. Most dishes are based on the fresh seafood, especially shellfish and fish. Staple foods are corn, beans, squash, herbs, rice,chilies, spicies, meat, fruits, vegetables, potatoes (sweets), blueberries, sasktoon berries, maple syrup, fiddiecheads, mussels, caribou, bison, salmon wild, rice, cheesses, peppers, ginger, garlic and coconuts.

Mexican food This cuisine is characterized with colors, decoration and variety of spices. This food is one of the richest in vitamins, minerals and protein, so when you taste this food, you will get a healthy alimentation. The main meal consist of soup, meat or fish, salad and potatoes. Pastries or ice cream. Bread, dairy products and canned fish are plentiful. Most foods are readily available.


Mexican typical dishes In Mexico the dishes are tacos (cornmeal, wheat, oil, salt,

pepper, onions, chicken breast, garlic, green peppers, red peppers, sauce, tomatoes), quesadillas(flour,a cup of cheese, sauce), beans(cups of pinto beans, medium onion, cloves of garlic, chili powder, salt), nachos with guacamole (nachos: corn, salt, chili powder and ground cumin, warm water. Guacamole: ripe avocado, ripe tomato, medium onion, garlic, few sprigs of parsely, salt, pepper, lemon drops ), chilli with meat (olive oil, beef, salt, peppers, onion, garlic, cumin, oregane, chili powder, cheese, beans, tomatoes) flatbreads, (chopped vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, chicken cooked and diced, fried tomatoes and peppers, chicken broth, pepper, oil, grated cheese, wheat flour cakes, avocado sauce to taste)

Mexican recipe Ingredients: 1 pound of ground beef, 1 onion finely diced, 1 can of red kidney beans, 2 cups of stewed tomatoes, 1 tablespoon of chili powder, salt, and paprika. Instructions Add the onion, ground beef, garlic, kidney beans, tomatoes, and chili powder to a heated frying pan. Simmer one hour, stirring occasionally. Remove the skillet from the heat and allow eggs to cook in water for five minutes. Season to taste with salt, pepper and paprika.

Mexican Celebrations This celebration is not scary ­ it's fun! It is a way that people show respect for the dead. In this celebration people eat bread of dead. The bread of dead Special dish of the Day of the Dead. It is a sweet roll that is baked in different shapes, from simple round shapes up skulls, decorated with figures of the same bone­ shaped pan and sprinkle with sugar.

Most Americans will readily try any food, and culture easily adapts to new tastes.

Celebrations Usa and Canada Thanksgiving day is celebrated the 4th Thursday of November in Usa. In Canada is the 2nd Monday of october. In this day people gather at home and prepare a feast with friends and family. The Thanksgiving meal includes a stuffed turkey, yams, potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls, gravy and pies.

Canadian food Some of the popular foods are wild rice, smoked fish, beef, ethnic dishes, Pacific salmon, and a variety of foods similar to those in the United States. Grains are more common inland and seafood is more popular on the coast. Dessert and sweets are very typical as maple syrup and pie.


Canadian recipe 500 g of wild rice,100 g red pepper, diced,100 g green pepper, diced,100 g chopped almonds or hazelnuts,100 g chopped onion,10 ml olive oil. Vinaigrette: 10 ml olive oil, 2'5 ml cider vinegar, 5 ml maple syrup, salt and pepper to taste Put the rice in boiling salted water cook until the grains are open (approximately 60 minutes). Drain, pass under cold water, add a little oil and cook on low heat until dry. Preparation (dressing): In a bow, mix the olive oil, cider vinegar and maple syrup and season. Stir well. Preparation (salad): Incorporate green peppers and diced red rice. Add the almonds and chopped onion. Pour the vinaigrette over the salad and season to taste.


Jamaican food Jamaican food is generally very spicy. Ackee and salt dish is a national dish. Other favorites dishes include rice and peas or beans, stews, and various types of fish.Curries are popular. Curried goat is a common meal. Most meals are served with rice and peas (red beans) and may also include boiled green bananas or fried dumplings. A typical salad includes cabbage and carrots. Vegetables (yams, green peppers,etc,) and fruits (mangoes, bananas, papaya, pineapple, oranges ,grapefruit, tomatoes) Jerk is the favorite dish of Jamaicans and visitors alike.Coffee and tea are popular; all hot drinks are customarily called tea (coffee, cocoa, green tea, etc.) Beer and white rum are especially popular.

2.5 lbs pork tenderloin, 6­8 green onions, 1 habanero chile without seeds (or 3 serrano with seeds), 2 Tbs allspice, 2 Tbs lime juice, 2 Tbs soy sauce, 3 garlic cloves, 2 Tbs fresh ginger, 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar (or more for a sweet jerk), 1 tsp pepper, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 3 tsp vegetable oil. Add garlic cloves to food processor. Pulse until rough chopped. Add green onions, ginger, and habanero. Pulse until well chopped. Add lime, soy, allspice, salt, sugar, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, and oil. Run processor until pureed. Recite secret Jamaican Jerk incantation while transferring marinade to a ziploc bag and adding the tenderloin. Marinate for 8 hours. Grill pork on all sides until pork has a pink center. This dish is usually served with rice.

Jamaica's traditional festivals In Jamaican celebrations the people wear bright colors. In Jamaica is celebrated the day of the dead, in this celebration people eat journey cakes. (johnnycakes)


Johnny cake 2 cups boiling water, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon butter, 1 cup cornmeal Slowly add the cornmeal to the boiling water and cook for five minutes. Add the sugar, butter and salt. Pour into a buttered ovenproof baking dish and finish cooking in the oven.


Brazilian food Brazilians like fruits and soft drinks. They also like lots of coffee. They make a special coffee Brazilian style called a cafezinho. Some favorite fruits are the mango, papaya, coconuts, and many more. Most of the stands are cooking bean cakes and crabs using sauces, and African herbs and spices. Other than that, most foods and supplies are like that have in America.


Brazilian recipe Pumpkin dish 750 grams pumpkin , peeled diced small seedless ; butter; 1 large onion; salt, pepper, 2 cloves garlic In a skillet place the pumpkin cubes, garlic, finely chopped like onion and 150 grams of butter. Cover with lid and cook until squash is completely tender stirring regularly to prevent sticking, add salt and pepper to taste and finish cooking for about five minutes. Serve hot with rice.


Brazilian celebrations In the folk festival Parintis people eat the cheese "of Coalho, roasted corn, the canjica, the pamonha, the brigadier, the pied­de­moleque, roast beef, meat­de­ sol and all accompanied by a good caipirinha.
