WELCOME TO OUR PRACTICE Our board certiďŹ ed dermatologists provide the most advanced techniques in adult, pediatric and cosmetic dermatology. In addition, Dr. Waibel runs a state-of the-art laser practice with twenty two advanced lasers that prevent skin cancer, treat brown spots, rosacea, and reverse photoaging and wrinkles. Dr. Waibel is world renowned for her expertise in improving and reducing the presence and appearance of burn and surgical scars with her laser therapy techniques. Each year, Dr. Waibel treats thousands of burn survivors and is achieving amazing results regardless of the size, texture, color and age of the scar. JILL S. WAIBEL, MD Dr. Waibel is a board certiďŹ ed by the American Board of Dermatology. She specializes in cutaneous laser surgery, general and cosmetic dermatology. She is currently the medical director and owner of the Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute in Miami. Dr. Waibel is the subsection chief of Dermatology at Baptist Hospital. In addition Dr. Waibel serves as a Clinical Voluntary Assistant Professor at the University of Miami.

In her practice she has over 35 laser devices and treats a wide variety of cutaneous disease. The treatment of scars by applying today’s latest cutaneous laser technologies is one of Dr. Waibel’s primary passions. She has successfully developed industry leading procedures and techniques with lasers. She works with a team that has developed patents related to laser and stem cells. Dr. Waibel is active in basic science clinical trials at the University of Miami and has a clinical trials division Miami Dermatology and Research. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to medicine, including an award given by Surgeon General Koop. Dr. Waibel also recipient of American Society of Dermatologic Surgery Cutting Research Award. Dr. Waibel lectures nationally and internationally as well published over forty peer-reviewed journal articles and several textbook chapters.

NEUROTOXINS Neurotoxins relax the muscle and prevent its activity. This helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles between the eyes and crow’s feet. Neurotoxins are used cosmetically to reduce wrinkles and provide a smoother appearance of the area between the eyes. The procedure is relatively quick and there is minimal downtime. The effects develop in days and will typically last from three to four months. Occasionally, we may schedule a follow up visit two weeks after the first treatment. Neurotoxins are serious drugs and your healthcare provider will discuss with you the safety considerations associated with their use, including the risk of toxin effect spreading beyond the treatment area

FACIAL FILLERS Like the name implies, fillers temporarily “fill” areas of soft tissue to reduce wrinkles, fill creases and create a subtle contour to the face. The most common facial regions for treatment with injected fillers are the smile lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds). Injectables alone are not always sufficient for severe surface wrinkles on the face. Therefore, your provider may suggest a variety of treatment options. Facial fillers are injectable products and are not suitable for all patients. Your healthcare provider will discuss with you the potential risks and benefits of the various fillers. Ask your provider for more information on appropriate treatment options during your consultation.

EYELASH LENGTHENING Eyelash enhancement increases the quality of lashes grown, leaving you with longer, thicker and darker lashes. This eye-opening product is easy to use as well. Before you go to bed, apply the product, brush or applicator provided to the base of the upper lashes (the product will be distributed to the lower lashes while you sleep). Results for many begin to appear as soon as eight weeks and one can expect to see best results anywhere between twelve to sixteen weeks. Eyelash enhancement has received rave reviews from women across the country and looks to make false lashes and expensive mascaras a mere memory.

CHEMICAL PEELS Chemical peels can be vital for skin health. Chemical peeling agents come in more than one form. Resurfacing treatments are mild acid treatments that provide a fresh-faced exfoliation, often without peeling the next day. Glycolic acid peels are ideal for stimulating collagen regeneration and reducing the appearance of ďŹ ne lines, and aid in moisture retention. Lactic acid peels brighten skin, aid in moisture retention and are helpful for sensitive skin types. Salicylic acid peels help to regulate oil production and break down excess oil and acne bacteria. Peeling treatments are medium depth acid treatments. TCA peels are another common option that have a medium/deep depth. These are ideal for those whose skin is appropriate for a more aggressive treatment. Those who are seeking a deeper treatment can peel for anywhere from a couple of days to a week. Often a series of peels spaced several weeks apart are recommended for optimal results. Possible side effects for chemical peeling treatments can include redness and swelling of the skin, peeling orscabbing of the treated skin and surrounding areas, prolonged skin sensitivity, discoloration of the skin and herpes breakout around the mouth if you are prone to cold sores.

SKIN CARE A basic skin care routine is essential for optimal results. It is important to understand it is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week regimen. There are several basic steps to follow. First, it can be necessary to cleanse the skin morning and evening. Next some may need to exfoliate; most people tend to skip this step in their weekly routine. This is a step that can give you immediate results. You may use a scrub with small grains and gently scrub the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Do this on a weekly basis, but it is important to understand not to over exfoliate the skin. Next, you may be in need of a good moisturizer, even if your skin is oily. Apply the moisturizer to your skin while it is still moist. Finally, apply sunscreen. Never leave home without it! Sun damage is the number one cause of wrinkles. Ask your esthetician for more information on skincare products and services that may be best for you.

The development of pigmentation anomalies, such as “age spots,” or acne scars can cause skin to lose its smooth, youthful appearance. Laser skin resurfacing can reduce changes associated with sun exposure and aging. Laser resurfacing also helps to stimulate skin to become healthy. Laser light penetrates to a precise, controlled depth within the skin. As the resurfaced areas heal, a new layer of skin is produced. Less invasive, nonsurgical procedures are becoming increasingly popular among facial cosmetic patients. This is not surprising – the chance to reduce some signs of aging with a relatively short procedure, involving minimal down time and a quicker recovery, is very appealing. Typically one or more treatments are needed to see best results. Possible side effects can include temporary redness, blistering, discoloration and temporary bruising. Talk with your physician to find out if this treatment is right for you.

INTENSE PULSED LIGHT Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment which uses short bursts of light energy. This procedure can reduce skin discolorations including redness, broken capillaries and sun-induced brown spots. Photorejuvenation simultaneously decreases the signs of aging skin such as ďŹ ne lines and wrinkles. IPL uses an adjustable range of wavelengths making it an effective option to address multiple conditions. Although improvement can be seen in as little as one visit, multiple procedures spaced 3-4 weeks apart may be necessary. The process is pretty quick and involves minimal downtime. IPL infrequently causes some side effects including mild discomfort during treatment and skin turning red, brown aking, mild swelling and feeling a little sore immediately after the procedure. Side effects are usually minimal and typically fade within two weeks of the procedure.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL Temporary hair removal methods like shaving and waxing can be painful and offer no long term solutions. Laser hair removal is a way to permanently reduce unwanted hair, whether it be on your legs, underarms, bikini area or elsewhere. Laser hair removal works by targeting the melanin within the hair follicle; a series of several treatments may be needed. On average, it takes up to six treatments to see best results. Following your laser hair removal treatment you may be slightly red, but this is usually minimal and gone in a few hours. Other possible side effects can include blistering and discoloration.

THIS IS JOEL “I have had my scars almost all my life from a hot water accident at 14 months old. When I was younger I would limit the times of going to the beach or going to the pool. (As an adult) I am a pretty confident guy but there is always that subconscious feeling that you’re not on the same playing field.
