pUBLISHEr’S Point Hi friends, When people hear I have seven children, opened my home to challenged teens, own two magazines, run training and networking groups, care for a loved one, and serve in church, two things happen: a big gasp and the question, “How do you find balance?” My answer to the balance question is pretty simple: balance is in the mind of the beholder. Much of the head games that play over in our mind is our own voice. Balance as a young mother looks very different than as a grandmother. When it’s the season to care for children, balance may appear as a five minute bathroom break, fixing a favorite meal you like, or sinking slowly into your mattress at the end of a long day. True balance is not about the nonsense voice happening in your mind. It’s about changing what doesn’t feel right when it doesn’t feel right. It’s not abandonment, it’s accountability in the right places at the right time. Next time you feel out of balance, listen to hear if it’s mental torture or is a timeout appropriate. Does life need one less meeting, or one more hug? Be better to yourself. Hugs,
Karleen

Tips to tripping
The memory
Isla Brazzil
There are many stress triggers throughout the year, and as some students come into the home stretch of school, final testing and grades can create worry. Worrying can get in the way of thinking and memory. If that isn’t a concern, memory retention is. Keeping all those building blocks of information often gets lost during the summer months.
Below are some tips to Tripping the Memory:
www.PositScience.com/Brain HQ According to PositScience, a large study conducted by scientists at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Southern California showed that using BrainHQ exercises improved memory by an average of 10+ years. Four of the 20 BrainHQ exercises are free; you can use them as often as you like for as long as you like at no cost to you.
www.TutorDoctorMeridian.com Another help over the summer months is having a tutor once a week to keep math and science strong, or learning vocabulary words. For high school aged students, beginning a preliminary focus on prepping for the SAT and ACT can boost confidence and results when September rolls around.

Long-term memory [ From positScience at www.positScience.com ]
Memory actually takes many different forms. We know that when we store a memory, we are storing information. But, what that information is and how long we retain it determines what type of memory it is. The biggest categories of memory are short-term memory (or working memory) and long-term memory, based
on the amount of time the memory is stored. Both can weaken due to age, or a variety of other reasons and clinical conditions that affect the memory like chemobrain, traumatic brain injury, HIVrelated, driving impairment, cognitive impairment due to heart failure, and visual disturbances and impairment.
types of long-term memory
Explicit Memory
Explicit memory, or declarative memory, is a type of long-term memory requiring conscious thought. It is what most people have in mind when they think of memory.
Implicit Memory
Implicit memory is a major form of long-term memory that does not require conscious thought. It allows you to do things in rote or “automatically.”
Autobiographical Memory
Most of us have one part of life that we remember better than others.
Memory & Morpheus
Researchers have come to believe slumber actively helps our brains consolidate what we learn and remember.
