Hepatitis SA has a specialist library containing books, reports, audio CDs, CDROMs, DVDs, journals and newsletters. The majority of our library catalogue is online and directly accessible via the internet.

Volunteers
Volunteers are a vital part of Hepatitis SA. They contribute in many ways, including on the Hepatitis SA Helpline, as well as printing and mail outs of print resources.

Advocacy
Hepatitis SA strives to represent and promote the interests of all South Australians affected by viral hepatitis at the state and national level through representation on various advisory committees and a variety of consultative processes.

Hepatitis SA is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation which aims to meet the needs of people with or affected hepatitis B or C.
This includes people with viral hepatitis, their family and friends, and professionals supporting people with viral hepatitis. We are funded by SA Health and the Australian Government Department of Health.
Information and Support
The Hepatitis SA Helpline is a confidential service –available 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays – which provides detailed information on all aspects of hepatitis B and C including:
• how the viruses are transmitted
• symptoms
• testing
• health maintenance
• treatment options
• support
• disclosure and discrimination-related issues
Calls are taken by trained staff and volunteers.
Referrals
The Hepatitis SA Helpline can refer people with viral hepatitis to other helpful organisations and services. We also have a list of hepatitis C friendly GPs.
Online Chat
Information and support is also available via our web chat service between 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays. To ask your questions, visit hepsa.asn.au and click on the chat icon at the bottom of the page.
Education Services
The Hepatitis SA Education Program provides a range of viral hepatitis education services to key workforce groups and people affected by viral hepatitis, in metropolitan and rural South Australia.
Education on hepatitis B and C is tailored to the needs of various groups and guest presenters with clinical expertise can be arranged, where appropriate.
Positive Speakers
The positive speakers program is integral to Hepatitis SA education services. Speakers all have personal experience living with hepatitis B or C and come from diverse backgrounds.
They hope that by sharing their stories, people will gain a better understanding of the emotional, physical, psychological and social impact of hepatitis B or C. Our positive speakers challenge stereotypes and help to break down discrimination against people with hepatitis B or C.
Peer Education
The Outreach Hepatitis C Peer Education and Support Project places peer educators in a range of ‘host’ organisations whose clients include people with or at risk of hepatitis C.
Peer educators have direct experience with hepatitis C and are trained to engage the clients of host organisations and provide them with up to date information on hepatitis C.
Hepatitis SA Clean Needle Program
Hepatitis SA operates a secondary Clean Needle Program (CNP) 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday at 3 Hackney Rd, Hackney. Filters and other specialist equipment are available on a cost recovery basis.
Clean Needle Program Peer Projects
The Hepatitis SA CNP Peer Projects employ people who have significant knowledge or experience of injecting as peer educators, who are placed at various high volume CNP sites across Adelaide to provide the following services to CNP clients:
• Distribution of sterile injecting equipment and disposal equipment
• Peer education and support in relation to preventing blood-borne viruses and other injecting drug related harms
• Appropriate referrals in relation to health and welfare, including drug treatment services
Printed and Online Information
Hepatitis SA provides a range of free print resources for people with viral hepatitis, their family and friends.
