The spectacular ceremony saw the culmination of five years of meticulous planning, design and construction on the second Royal Van Lent yard (and the fourth Feadship facility in the Netherlands), which will now be used to build and refit Feadships of up to 160 metres in length. Measuring an impressive 425,000 cubic metres, the facility is the most eco-friendly superyacht yard in the world and the pinnacle of contemporary design. Before entering the giant construction hall, Queen Máxima was introduced to Dick Van Lent, the fourth generation of his family to have led the yard until his retirement in 2016. This year marks the 170th anniversary of Royal Van Lent, one of the two yacht-building family dynasties that makes up Feadship along with Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw in Aalsmeer and Makkum. Her Majesty then viewed nineteen classic yachts presented along the quay, all members of the Feadship Heritage Fleet. This spring, the two brands representing the yachting division of the Damen Shipyards Group had no less than 16 yachting projects in The Netherlands and nine additional hulls under construction. The current project numbers further establish AMELS and DAMEN as the largest luxury yacht builder and refit provider in the Netherlands and a true centre of excellence. With a full house at its main yard in Vlissingen, the yacht builder is expanding at its second facility, Vlissingen East, a few kilometres away. Part of the Damen Shipyards Group, the Vlissingen East yard now includes a dedicated 200-metre building hall for Yachting as well as the largest covered dry dock in the Netherlands. At 215 metres in length, the dock can easily accommodate the largest yacht in the world. Spring deliveries completed so far at the builder’s two facilities in Vlissingen include refit projects DYTAN and VENTUM MARIS, as well as new build AMELS 180 PAPA, all on time and on budget. roject Phi was first announced in last summer and, with design engineering well advanced, construction of the aluminium hull began at Royal Huisman’s Vollenhove shipyard in early 2019. Among a long list of exceptional features of this project are the fuelefficient hull lines based on the patented FastDisplacement XL concept by Van Oossanen Naval Architects, who are responsible to maximise the yacht’s length of over 55m / 180ft while remaining within the sub-500GT category. The resulting hull will provide a comfortable and stable platform for this radical and high performance vessel, notwithstanding the relatively narrow beam that contributes to Phi’s striking looks. At this stage, details of Phi’s exterior design from Cor D. Rover, and of her interior appearance from Lawson Robb, both remain highly secret. With hull turning scheduled for summer 2019, numerous unique features and specialist aspects of the yacht are being prepared in parallel to the hull construction by the Royal Huisman team, working in close cooperation with the owner’s team and designers. AL SUWAIDI MARINE SUPPORTS ADIBS ‫السويدي مارين تدعم معرض‬ ‫الدولي للقوارب‬ ّ ‫أبو ظبي‬ Following the success of the inaugural edition of the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show (ADIBS) in 2018, organisers Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) announced that UAE-based boat manufacturer Al Suwaidi Marine (ASM), will support the event’s upcoming October 2019 edition as returning Official Gold Sponsor. At ADIBS 2018, which attracted more than 21,000 visitors from across the world, ASM launched the ASM 29 F boat. The company now plans to exhibit the ASM 29 F, ASM 34 F and ASM 37 C boats, as well as the Limo Sea 46 C and Limo Sea 46 O at the upcoming second edition of the luxury yacht and leisure marine industry event, which will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 16 to 19 October 2019. The Ferretti Yachts 850 is the product of the joint efforts of the Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee, Studio Zuccon International Project - for the design of the exteriors and the layout of the interiors - and the Group’s Engineering Department, which handled naval design as well as the interior design. EXTERNAL DESIGN With a hull measuring 26 metres, (85.4 feet) and a construction length below 24 metres (LH 78.8 feet), the new flybridge can be registered as a pleasure craft. The two trapezoidal hull windows with integrated portholes are sleek and extra wide to make the most of the natural light and provide magnificent views from the inside. The design of the main deck enhances the overall experience, thanks to a single fullheight window which cuts through the entire superstructure, plus the large front and side dome at the raised helm station. The profile is completed by the flybridge with the roll bar in Vulcan Grey, the second colour of the brand and an effective contrast with the ivory white. MAIN DECK The glazed sliding door leads into a 10-metre long open plan space with a lounge and a dining area. All the furniture and fittings redefine the architectural and design ‘language’ of yachting. superstructure, the interior is dominated by flat surfaces and linear panelling. The use of perpendicular partitions, almost full-height glazed surfaces, light and pleated curtains, and freestanding furniture are typical elements of this ultra-contemporary metropolitan concept. The lounge is furnished with an L-shaped sofa, a coffee table and a TV area, and also includes a dining area with a striking round table. Another innovation is the ceiling, consisting of a series of chalk white lacquered, polished and matte, transverse slats. These create a dynamic decorative pattern and add style to the artificial lighting, while at the same time disguising the light fittings, air conditioning vents and audio speakers. The galley is located forward beyond the lobby and the helm station, and is completely separate from the guest area. It is fitted with Ernestomeda furniture and a large cooking top. Beside it, near the stairs leading to the crew cabins, is a convenient dinette. LOWER DECK Below deck the Ferretti Yachts 850 offers generous spaces for owners and guests. The airy master suite, also designed in collaboration with Minotti, is in keeping with the style of the main deck, with flamed oak wood, satin finish brass trim and lacquered ceiling. Besides the central king-size bed with leather upholstered headboard and borders matching the bedside tables, it features a study area along the bulwark with a stylish Minotti unit, a large wardrobe and several spacious storage compartments. Behind the suite, the transverse fuel tank and insulated partition minimise noise from the engine room. The lower deck houses two spacious VIP double cabins, one amidships on the port side and the other forward. The crew quarters are located in the extreme bow and include two cabins with bunk beds and private bathroom. Even more beauty can now be found in the sea, after the new Custom Line 106’ madeto-measure masterpiece was launched on Thursday 7 March. The second member of the new planing range by Francesco Paszkowski Design took to the water at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona: a world-class facility where all Custom Line production processes take place. The Custom Line 106’ stems from the partnership between the Francesco Paszkowski Design studio, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department and the Product Strategy Committee led by the engineer Piero Ferrari. It embodies a new horizon in perfection, with meticulously clean-cut lines and large spaces steeped in simple sophistication, offering unparalleled comfort for the owner. The design of the lines on the bottom and the hull helps it to replicate and build on the outstanding hydrodynamic performance of the latest models in the brand’s planing range. A minimalist design spans the interior and exterior, while the surfaces merge into each other in a display of architectural balance that breaks down the boundaries between the spaces. The large, interconnected floor surfaces (220 m² in total) are another distinguishing feature of the Custom Line 106’. The entire interior design scheme in this first unit has been customized to cater perfectly to the requirements of the owner, in accordance with Custom Line’s famous tailormade style. The interiors of the main deck are bathed in natural light thanks to the large, full-height windows. The unique new arrival experience presents newly accessible six-month navigation licenses and six-month visas, for crews of all nationalities. The new entrance procedure will enable foreign flag vessels to avoid clearing through commercial entry ports. Instead, vessels can sail directly to Yas Marina for UAE clearance, with the authority services available onsite. The introduction will lessen delays, saving an average of eight hours waiting time, providing a seamless arrival experience. Where owners and crew have previously waited at commercial ports without a marina dock, they can now relax, stretch their legs, dine and continuing with daily tasks at their leisure. On arrival, superyachts are assigned a berth on the visitors wharf as they enter Yas Marina waters. Guided by Yas Marina, officials from immigration, customs and quarantine will complete procedures immediately – including filling declaration papers and other formalities. The first vessel clearance of this kind was M/Y Caiphirina (60m), arriving successfully to Yas Marina in March 2019. Mark Boylin, Captain of the superyacht Caiphirina, said: “Our Owner is a huge supporter of yachting in the region spending around 6 months of the year aboard one of his superyachts in Abu Dhabi. We have always found Abu Dhabi to be most welcoming, but we are incredibly excited by these generous new incentives. “Abu Dhabi remains an attractive destination, but the relaxation of the regulations will offer us greater ease of access to port as well as allowing us a much longer period to remain docked,” he added. “With the enhanced regulations simplifying entry procedures we can see the emirate becoming the destination of choice in the region for vessels such as ours. The lines and contours of the Ghibli’s sides flow effortlessly from end to end, ensuring the body of this Maserati is no less than magnificent. Maserati is without doubt one of the most iconic and revered sports car brands of all time. With every model released, their legacy continues to grow as they somehow manage to consistently improve on previous offerings as well as to remain a cut above the competition. When we learned that our upcoming test drive was to be in the 2018 Maserati Ghibli S, we were more than excited to get behind the wheel and to discover everything this beautiful machine has to offer. It was clear from the start that this Maserati has been designed to impress from each and every angle. The front end of the vehicle is visually striking with its obverse bumper now incorporating a larger grille, complete with ‘sharknose’ profile and integrated chrome bars. A three-dimensional effect has been added to the Ghibli’s anterior through the Alfieri concept inspired concave grille, which gives this model a unique and powerful presence. The Bi-Xenon technology headlights have preserved their contoured shape which add to the already aggressive looking front end. At the rear end of the vehicle, the bumper has undergone a tasteful redesign that results in a sharper and more refined look over previous models. The lines and contours of the Ghibli’s sides flow effortlessly from end to end, ensuring the body of this Maserati is no less than magnificent. All of these improved features directly contribute to the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency. The excellence of the Ghibli S continued as we slipped inside the luxurious cabin. As one would expect, only premium materials and finishes are to be found in this vehicle, with a level of craftmanship and attention to detail, second to none. The exceptionally comfortable driver’s seat is six-way adjustable to ensure the perfect driving position, whilst all seats offer plenty of leg, shoulder and head room. The rear seats not only comfortably accommodate three passengers, but offer a 60/40 folding option. This combined with a boot holding capacity of 500 litres ensure this model is also designed for everyday use. The Ghibli’s interior has been created around an intuitive, user-friendly driver interface that gives the driver easy access to many of the vehicle’s functions. The central console conveniently integrates the driving modes’ buttons alongside the improved gearshift for maximum accessibility. The Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) allows for one to adjust many of the car’s settings and is located at the centre of the stylishly designed dashboard, whilst the controls situated on the superbly crafted steering wheel allow one to negotiate the 7-inch TFT display. yet another fantastic feature of the interior was the 8.4-inch capacitive touch screen infotainment system that offers compatibility for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mirroring functions. As we started her up, the petrol 600 V6, Twin-Turbo â&#x20AC;&#x201C; direct injection GDI engine was music to our ears. With a displacement of 2979 ccâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and 2250 Nm of torque available, this car has more muscle on offer than one should ever need. Able to surge from 0-100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and boasting a top speed of 267 km/h, the Ghibli S is truly an impressive machine. WHAT IS IT? Born out of an intergovernmental agreement between Abu Dhabi and France in 2007, Louvre Abu Dhabi and its universal story embodies the spirit of openness and dialogue among cultures, displaying works of historical, cultural and sociological significance from different times and civilisations. The museum’s permanent collection, as well as important loaned artworks from prestigious French institutions, forms an art historical narrative taking the visitor from ancient times to the contemporary through 23 permanent galleries in 12 sequences. THE DESIGN Pritzker-prize winning architect Jean Nouvel has sought inspiration for the concept of Louvre Abu Dhabi in traditional Arabic architectural culture. Applying a contextual approach to the site, the Louvre Abu Dhabi has been designed as a ‘museum city’ in the sea, with its contrasting series of white buildings inspired by the medina and low-lying Arab settlements. In total there are approximately 55 individual buildings making up this museum city.

The 180-meter-wide dome covers the majority of the museum city and becomes an iconic structure visible from the sea, the surrounding areas and Abu Dhabi city. The dome primarily acts as a shading canopy to protect the outdoor plaza and the buildings below from the heat of the sun, providing local comfort and reducing building energy consumption. This strategy allows visitors to circulate outdoors between the Museum Galleries, Exhibitions, Children’s Museum, open plaza, café and restaurant. MUSEUM GALLERIES Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection spans human history, emphasising exchange and shared human experience. The dialogue between artworks, manuscripts and objects in Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection, from the most ancient to the most contemporary enables visitors to discover shared influences and intriguing connections between different cultures throughout history. The museum trail, highlighting universal themes and common influences, transcending geography, nationality and history, begins with prehistory, the birth of civilisations and the first great empires. It explores concepts such as religion, exchange across trade routes, voyages and discoveries, the role of the individual in history and contemporary themes related to the modern period and globalisation. EXHIBITIONS & EXTERNAL WORKS Temporary exhibitions are presented throughout the year in a separate space, ensuring that returning visitors always find something new to discover. These present the opportunity to stage original and innovative exhibitions to be developed in collaboration with partner French museums, in some cases encompassing works from several institutions. An external artwork programme has also been integrated into the museum environment, extending the museum experience beyond the museum walls. The external artwork programme includes commissions from renowned contemporary artists who have been inspired by the museum environment to create unique in situ artworks and in some cases positioned in dialogue with other non-contemporary external artworks.

LATEST EXHIBITION Highway Gallery 2.0 Louvre Abu Dhabi’s globally acclaimed Highway Gallery has returned for its second edition this spring. Ten new artworks from Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection, reproduced as giant 3D sculptures or 10-metre high billboards, will appear alongside the E11 Sheikh Zayed Road from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. As drivers tune into one of the partner radio stations and approach the display, they will automatically hear a 30-second story about each artwork as part of a collaboration with Abu Dhabi Media via Radio 1 FM (100.5FM), Classic FM (91.6 FM) and Emarat FM (95.8 FM). The campaign offers visitors a comprehensive experience of discovering art, beginning on the road on their way to the museum, and continuing inside Louvre Abu Dhabi via a dedicated tour around the Highway Gallery in the museum’s multimedia guide, featuring video interviews with seven of the participating influencers. The 2019 edition of the project also features several new elements. Three of the ten masterpieces will, for the first time, be reproduced as three-dimensional sculptures. Reflecting Louvre Abu Dhabi’s universal narrative, Highway Gallery 2.0 will include works from different moments of history and a variety of cultures, including ancient masterpieces such a vase from circa 5500 BCE, found on the UAE island of Marawah; a 4,000-year-old statuette of an ancient Bactrian Princess; as well as a 11th or 12th century statue from China representing Guanyin, a divinity of compassion. Other historic artefacts include a 15th century Islamic helmet, a 17th-century Hindu manuscript depicting a huntress, and a Japanese suit of armour from the early 18th century. The 19th century is represented with James Abbott McNeill Whistler’s Arrangement in Grey and Black N˚1 (1871), Édouard Manet’s The Bohemian (1867) and Vincent Van Gogh’s The Dance Hall in Arles (1888), alongside a surrealist work by 20th century painter Joan Miró. On the inauguration of Highway Gallery 2.0, His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “The Highway Gallery is a flagship project for both the UAE and the international museum landscape, being the first initiative of its kind. The museum includes a Highway Gallery tour in its multimedia guide, featuring video interviews with the influencers participating in the campaign. Located on the Corniche, The St. Regis Abu Dhabi is not only one of the best addresses in the UAE capital but it is also the epitome of what you’d expect from a fine five-star hotel, and then some. Walking into the hotel lobby, will have you stop short of breath as you’re greeted with huge low-hanging Arabian lantern-inspired chandeliers and two ornate bronze grand staircases, sweeping away from each other as they round the twin majestic pillars that frame the lobby lounge and some very cosy reading areas. It certainly had the wow factor on first impressions as well as a home away from home feel to it. SUITE ENVY At check-in, we’re offered a thirst-quenching blueberry drink and within moments we’re shown to our room on the 38th floor. Entering the Grand Deluxe Suite, our first though was “wow, this is something special” and when we finally got our fill of social media sharing, we took a step back and fell onto the comfy bed to admire the surroundings. The room is extremely spacious and chic adorned in marble and custom furniture, and decked out with state-of-the art-technology – a blend of classic and contemporary that goes so well together. The best bit… the freestanding bathtub and separate shower area with jet massage – just take a bath every day and thank us later. The signature St. Regis bed (and linen) was such a dream to sleep in; much-needed siestas became our way of life for three days. The whole suite has floor-to-ceiling windows throughout and being so high up means that you get the most amazing sights of the sea and the city. There’s something fun about spotting tiny little people around the place… and so a personal creation of ’Where’s Wally’ ensued every time we looked out of the window! There’s also plenty of space to lounge around as a separate living area is nicely partitioned from the bedroom using a beautifully-placed wall. In other words, you’ve got a good amount of space to play with. The service was bespoke without being intrusive and we had our own personal butler who offered to unpack our luggage (and packed it when we were leaving) – a lovely personalised touch! With The St. Regis Butler Service, you can call up your butler for anything - coffee, pressing of clothes, dining reservations or even to get more information about Abu Dhabi. Two complimentary pressings are included with the suite booking and coffee and tea is complimentary. The bathroom is also filled with small touches that made our stay just perfect. For starters, most of the mirrors are heated and this means that you will not have to deal with fogged-up surfaces after taking a hot shower (it is most definitely the little things that count). The bathtub experience was made even better with a screen that is hidden in the mirror. Like we said, luxury at new heights! existence of a television screen that is hidden in the mirror. Please review this part HOTEL GOALS We spent most of our afternoon alternating between deep-soaking in the tub, the day bed by the window and dipping in and out of the pool and beach at The Nation Riviera Beach Club, which sits across the property and offers guests exclusive use of the beach and swimming pool, accessed via a private tunnel. Breakfast was served at the beautiful Terrace on the Corniche. There was a huge choice of healthy green spreads to really letting go and enjoying all the other delights a pancake section, omelet section, salad buffet, English breakfast, you name it, this breakfast had it! We can also confirm that this is where we had the best egg benedicts, ever. We were invited for a meal at Villa Toscana, the hotel’s Italian restaurant. Our first greeting was from the charming restaurant manager who welcomed us in with open arms! The restaurant has an old Italian villa feel, with an open kitchen letting you watch the chefs do their magic. The central dining room with its shuttered windows and painted murals is the focal point of the restaurant. The menu at Villa Toscana represents a traditional, culinary path through Italy. For starters, we had a Bresola salad, which was incredibly refreshing and full of flavour. Next, a signature dish of three pasta cones absolutely blew us away – so delicious. Our main meal was fish, packed with simple, authentic flavours. To wrap up, the dessert choice was firmly one of the traditional Italian favourites: magnum tiramisu ice creams. It was creamy and balanced in sweetness. The food most definitely married perfectly with the rustic surroundings.

atch’s calibre continually impresses diners with a menu of ‘haute cuisine’ strongly influenced by Asia. The location offers much of the venue’s appeal. Perched upon a pristine strip of sand within the Nation Riviera complex of The St. Regis Abu Dhabi. The views across the Arabian Gulf to Lulu Island are just as exciting as the cuisine. The restaurant’s design elements completely lean into the seafood concept and rather than opting for the expected nauticalinspired interiors, the space is far more modern. Service remains one of the restaurant’s defining factors with a style that is efficient and allows for rapport to be built easily. Staff are well versed in the nuances of the food and beverage lists and a theatricality comes into play with concoctions served within conch shells and glassware made to resemble a bloated pufferfish. All helping to subtly enhance the seafood theme. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Kavish Chimajee, Catch champions fresh produce, allowing even simple combinations of ingredients to transcend expectations in a bid to promote flavour. A perfect example of this is the seabass ceviche (AED69). Plated with pickled onion, sweet potato and a vibrant bell pepper dressing. The dish is exquisite and visually appealing with the sea bass rolled and adorned with edible flowers, taking on the appearance of an elaborate crown. An organic quinoa (AED79) presented beneath a glistening bell jar brings together watermelon and feta cheese with a sweet red bell pepper coulis. Elevating the trending superfood to more than just a salad in which different flavours come to the fore with each individual mouthful. Similarly, the signature sushi platter (AED209) adds an additional dimension to the dining experience. Arriving amidst billows of smoke and elaborately sculptures carved from ice. Accompanied by fresh wasabi root grated at the table, we throughly enjoy the California Rolls comprising of jumbo crab, orange tobiko and spicy mayonnaise, alongside three choices of sashimi - yellowtail, sea bass and salmon - which are cut thicker than expected and exemplify the Catch ethos of using only the freshest ingredients. The varied menu isn’t all about seafood and provides an inclusive choice that caters to the requirements of both carnivores and vegetarians. Don’t miss the braised short ribs (AED89) bringing together bite sized cubes of tender short rib, topped with pomelo (a fruit from the citrus family), carrot pickle and sesame seeds. The meat is braised and fried, before braising again. Resulting in a remarkable texture that’s crisp on the outside while beautifully tender within, much like a Peking Duck. as a signature. Main courses encompass the ever-popular choice of black cod, Canadian lobster, grilled prawns and Hokkaido scallops (AED199). The scallops have the shellfish plated with pumpkin risotto and a yuzu saffron sauce, before being crowned with a circular squid ink tuile topped with caviar. A gastronomic delight which plays with luxury ingredients such as the scallops that are harvested in Japan and characterised by their firmness and subtle sweetness. Ingredients come to the fore again with the Wagyu Beef. Available in various forms cuts and presented to the table on a barbecue amidst two varieties of mushrooms and a rich and flavoursome mushroom and beef jus that complements the meat perfectly. Desserts continue the high standards with the chocolate sphere (AED65) resembling a Pokemon ball thanks to a unique white and red colouration. The smooth sphere of chocolate shows no signs of imperfection until a warm chocolate sauce is poured on top, thus melting the exterior to reveal an interior loaded with chocolate brownies, kumquat compote and the nostalgia of popping candy. For something less decadent the coconut (AED49) is a lighter option that brings together the contrasting textures of coconut panna cotta and tapioca, with a fresh mango and passion emulsion that leaves a lasting impression of tropical flavours. Catch is the epitome of destination dining and the experience is representative of a meal that we don’t want to end, no matter how many times we visit.
