If you are attending New Year's Eve parties and celebrations: • If you drink, don't drive. • Plan ahead and always designate a sober driver before the party or celebration begins. • If you are impaired, call a taxi, use mass transit, or get a sober friend or family member to come pick you up. Or, stay where you are until you are sober.

The members of Radio Smash, as well as the other artists, seemed stoked to be part of this major tour. “Our biggest concern was the little amount of artist recognition with the electronic-dance music industry,” wrote the duo on their website. “Our manager, Matt Curiale, wanted to do something

It will combine the artist recognition that these artists have established, with the explosive energy that we have to offer. It will redefine how people perceive DJs. Our fans will know us not only for the music that we make but also for whom we are. This tour will change the face of electronic-dance music.” The artists on this bill are already doing just that. Rae Sremmurd is currently on the charts with their mega-hit, “No Type,” which is already being played at major sporting events and on radio throughout the world. The massively inked T. the legendary books, is here. Finally, say a lot of people over the age of 40, the third installment of the series – the film that finally f***ing wraps up the trio of film based on the legendary books – is here! There have been so many successful film series based on books in the history of cinema – James Bond, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Twilight, even The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants comes to mind – that reviewing anything that's this popular becomes an exercise in futility; much like people fill hockey arenas because they're convinced Benny Hinn will do magic tricks and save their souls, people know they're going to enjoy whatever the filmmakers thrust before them even before their feet get stuck to the floor at the mallplex. However, it's a pity that action-obsessed director Peter Jackson's idea of making a film is to fill the screen with noisy, jangly fights and violence for as much of

By Cody Bell the movie's whopping two hour and 24-minute running time as he possibly could; Jackson's ham-fisted style makes what might possibly have been a moving experience into an endurance test that makes the Transformer series play like Fried Green Tomatoes. We're not alone in damning Jackson's itchy trigger finger; a couple of years back, Hobbit author J.R.R. Tolkien's son reportedly claimed that Jackson missed the point of the entire second film by insisting on

making it a giant action spectacle. Almost as if to thumb his nose at Tolkien's son, Jackson staged (and this isn't a typo) a 24-minute battle scene … into a story that's supposed to be a tome against war – and for children, no less. It's all a shame, really, because in spite of Jackson's bent for non-stop mayhem, there are several great performances. Freeman's Balbo Baggins remains indelible; the heavenly Evangeline Lilly lights up the screen once again; Ian McKellan remains our most unlikely but in-demand fantasy film star. But as we left our screening with reddened eyes and ringing ears, all we could remember was crashing and banging – so addle-brained that we couldn't remember what we ate for lunch, let alone where we parked the car. Famous doesn't mean good; expensive doesn't mean best. The Hobbit series served as sheer product for those who gobble up fantasy films – nothing more.

Top Five

to keep things realistic. To help burnish Andre’s image, his manager (Hart) contacts a reporter, Chelsea Brown (Dawson), to interview Andre by following him around a 24-hour period. Andre is initially skeptical because he has been burned by the press, but ultimately relents. The dynamics

between Brown and Allen help shape this film, and it’s a pleasure watching the on-screen chemistry between Rock and Dawson. In an intriguing subplot, Andre is scheduled to marry a shallow reality TV series diva, Erica Long (a brilliant Union), whose every move in life is dictated by executives of cable’s Bravo network. It’s surprising that Bravo allowed its name and logo to be used here, since Comcast owns Universal Studios, while Paramount, the distributor of Top Five, is owned by rival media conglomerate Viacom. The dialog about celebrity and pop culture is surprisingly fresh, considering that the terrain has been covered many times before. Top Five is an R-rated film, and it certainly earns that letter and more. Rock pushes the envelope both in terms of ribald language and raunchy sex scenes that one could only have seen and heard in porn films not so long ago. It will be hard to watch Cedric The Entertainer on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” without thinking of his bacchanalia scene in this movie. In case you were wondering: The title, “Top Five,” refers to Allen asking people who their favorite hip hop artists of all time are. Without having seen a list of the all the films released in 2014, there is a very good chance that this one will make my own personal “top five.” – Lloyd Carroll

restaurants faced when first opening in various cities around the country; the more things change, the more they stay the same, it sadly seems. However, the serious moments of this film are buffered by warm and often funny looks at Chinese cuisine. There's interviews with not only knowledgeable food historians, but also with a man who collects Chinese restaurant menus (seriously). There are looks at the lives of restaurant owners and patrons, and, best of all, dozens of real appreciations of an exceedingly sumptuous dish that's the most popular Chinese food menu item of

them all. The Search For General Tso is about as tasty as a modern documentary gets, and at just one hour and 11 minutes, it goes down easy. And, of course, after viewing this you'll likely be tempted to order take-out as soon as you possibly can – armed with a new appreciation for everyone involved. (Editor's note: The Search For General Tso opens in theaters January 2; locally, the film is showing at The IFC Center in New York City, as well as via video-ondemand on many area cable television systems). – Bob Smith

Starring Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union, Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, J.B. Smoove, Cedric The Entertainer, Leslie Jones, Jay Pharoh, Michael Che Written and directed by Chris Rock Paramount

While it might be an overstatement to call Top Five a hip hop homage to Woody Allen’s 1970s films, there’s little doubt about the influence displayed in Chris Rock’s film. Like most of Allen’s movies, this one is shot entirely in New York City, and there is Woody-esque observational humor (a lot of it sexual in nature, far more risqué than Allen usually delved into). Rock’s character is a comic named Andre Allen; the choice of the surname is surely not a coincidence. In a final nod to Allen, Rock’s character is a popular standup comedian who has tired of telling jokes in bandbox nightclubs and instead wants to be taken seriously as an artist, one who doesn’t need to hear laughter from the crowd. The film opens with Andre, promoting his first dramatic leading role in a film, going to Sirius XM’s studios for marathon Q&A sessions. He follows that up with an incredibly realistic press junket where Rock gives cameos to real life film critics and has an actress brilliantly play an unsmiling film company publicist who sourly intones, “Two minutes!” These are small details and may seem a bit too “inside baseball” for the public, but it shows the degree to which Rock goes

The Search For General Tso

Directed and written by Ian Cheney Wicked Delicate Films/ Sundance/IFC

Even in an era where there are about 100 TV cooking channels and a great restaurant on every other block, this new documentary is served up more than fresh: The Search For General Tso rises above most recent indie films to cut in front of the line and become an actual Oscar contender. As Ron Popeil would say, yes, it's that good. Director Ian Cheney (King Corn) proves himself once again to be a first-rate storyteller, this time by asking a simple question: Who was General Tso, and where did that ubiquitous, tempting dish served at Chinese restaurants come from? Cheney doesn't stop there, however: How do you pronounce "Tso"? Did he actually invent the dish? Who brought it to the United States? Who first came up with the spicy-yet-sweet delicacy? Cheney and his crew travel to China to find out, but they also go everywhere the dish has become mega-popular, from New York City to the midwest, and to California and Mexico. Along the way, viewers will discover a whole lot more in addition to the lavishly filmed food porn they probably came for: The story of the Americanized Chinese food is actually the story of many immigrants who come to the United States without many skills or even knowing the language; working in Chinese takeout restaurants is often their first step into assimilation into this country. In addition, the film uncovers (totally unbeknownst to this viewer) the blatant racism that Chinese

t's hard to blame the New York Mets for sticking with their shortstop tandem of Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada. Flores deserves the chance to be their opening day shortstop, while Tejada has been unfairly denigrated by many and could push for the starting job with a good spring training. I have two words for Mets fans who are livid that the team announced before the holidays that it would not pursue South Korean shortstop Jo-Hung Kang: “Kaz Matsui” (I realize that Matsui is Japanese, but you get the idea). The budget-wary Mets cannot afford to get burned like that again. Washington Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond will be a free agent in all likelihood after the 2015 season – that is who they should go after if this key infield position proves to be a toxic dump this upcoming season. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson is an adept bargain basement shopper, and he was wise in signing former Phillies outfielder and first baseman John Mayberry, Jr. to a one-year, $1.45 million contract. Mayberry has pop in his bat, and always hit well against the Mets.

BOWLING

However, it is hard to understand why Alderson basically told the entire free world at the recent San Diego baseball winter meetings that the Mets want to have “payroll flexibility” (which is sports parlance for penny pinching) and would be willing to trade starting pitcher Dillon Gee for basically a bag of M&Ms. At this point, the Mets' starting pitching staff appears to consist of Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon, and Jon Niese, but even the most optimistic Mets fan would concede that it’s unlikely that all of the aforementioned will stay healthy or produce as well as one would like. There is a reason for the old bromide “you can never enough pitching”; Gee is a relatively inexpensive insurance policy who can pitch in long relief until needed. The New York Wilmer Yankees, as is their Flores wont, did the smart thing trading for longtime Padres third baseman Chase Headley, then re-signing him to a long-term contract. The tournaments will be conducted in AMF and Brunswick centers (now owned by Bowlmor AMF), with more than $250,000 in funding for broadcast television production. “Bowlmor AMF is thrilled to reinforce our commitment to the sport of bowling by sponsoring the U.S. Opens,” said Tom Shannon, Chairman, CEO and President of Bowlmor AMF. “We look forward to further developing a strong relationship with the USBC and BPAA to support bowlers at every level, in every state and especially in every one of our over 340 Bowlmor AMF centers.” The 2015 Women’s U.S. Open will take place in late August/early September, and will be included as part of the new Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour schedule as an added event. providing 10 total events for women competitors during the tour’s schedule. The 2015 U.S. Open will take place in November following the PBA World Series of Bowling. Locally, it appears that area AMF Bowlmor centers actively recruited league play for the 2014/2015 season. In all, these are heartening signs of the company taking an active interest in growing all facets of the sport. Well done.

will once again convene. One person who deservedly will be enshrined in Cooperstown this summer is Padres TV voice and legendary broadcaster Dick Enberg, who truly is one of the nicest people any fan could ever meet. Sadly, it looks as if Gil Hodges’ chances of being elected into the Hall of Fame are getting slimmer, despite well-orchestrated campaigns by both the New York City sports media and social media. Given the Brooklyn Nets’ woes, it’s hard to fathom why head coach Lionel Hollins refused to give forward Andrei Kirilenko playing time before trading him to the lowly Philadelphia 76ers. It's hard to fathom that Kirilenko, who for years was a top NBA player, had his skills completely

atrophy over this past summer. Perhaps New Knicks president Phil Jackson and head coach Derek Fisher should try other geometric shapes, since the triangle offense doesn’t seem to be working. Farmingville native Keith Kinkaid is currently the New Jersey Devils backup goaltender to Corey Schneider. Kinkaid grew up a big Islanders fan, and his family still owns Isles’ season tickets; his feather admitted that it was weird to root against the Islanders when his son started in goal for the Devils at the Nassau Coliseum two weeks ago. Kinkdaid acquitted himself well in defeat, as the Islanders won 3-2 in a shootout. No one does coffee table sports books like Sports Illustrated: Two of their newest titles are NFL QB and Basketball’s Greatest. As is expected, both the photography and the narratives are terrific. The Sports Illustrated 2015 Almanac is still the best way to check records and facts of nearly any sport imaginable, as well as quickly settling any bar bets – and yes, that includes using the Internet. TV Guide did a nice profile of veteran Fox Sports NFL sideline reporter Pam Oliver in its year-end issue. Oliver, who was pushed out of the top sideline job when Fox Sports snagged Erin Andrews away from ESPN, is leaving her NFL gig and will become Fox Sports’ first senior correspondent. The eighth annual Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, held at the New York Hilton just before the holiday season, brought out some of the sports industry’s biggest names, as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, his NBA counterpart Adam Silver, college’s American Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco, former NBC Sports CEO Dick Ebersol,

former ESPN chairman George Bodenheimer, and CBS Sports head Sean McManus. Among those honored that night were two highly regarded TV executives in the NFL Network’s Steve Bornstein and former Fox Sports chief and perennial life of the party David Hill. It’s safe to say that Hill is the Dean Martin of the sports television world. Fox even took an ad out in the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame program showing Hill posing above a glass of scotch. Former NBA commissioner David Stern was also honored. Chris Since Good Schenkel Times is one of the few places where bowlers of all levels can read about their sport, I am happy to report that Chris Schenkel, who covered the Professional Bolwers Association (PBA) Tour for ABC Sports for 36 years, was the only broadcaster to be inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame class. Many people forget that Schenkel covered more than bowling, where he teamed with pro legend Nelson Burton Jr.; Schenkel also worked on Major League Baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, boxing, and both the Summer and Winter Olympic games.

hat better way to begin the 2015 music season at The NYCB Theatre at Westbury than with an evening of pure fun: The legendary disco/pop act KC & The Sundshine Band returns to Long Island for a headlining appearance on Friday, January 23 at 8 pm. Tickets are are available online at Ticketmaster.com, charge by phone at (800) 745-3000, and at the Westbury box office. For more information, visit thetheatreatwestbury.com. So how is it that Harry Wayne Casey – better known as “KC,” a takeoff on his last name – and his veteran big disco band is still a touring draw more than 40 years after most acts of that longgone dance era have faded into the sunset? We believe it's because the charismatic Casey is a master at assembling quality musicians, awesome dancers, and great singers into a one-of-a-kind act that stands the test of time as well as any classic

Whose music has been featured in more than 200 motion picture film soundtracks? Dubbed “The Founder of the Dance Revolution,” Casey has composed and performed music that gets people out of their seats and onto the dance floor. It all originated with humble

beginnings in Hialeah, Florida. KC has never moved farther than 10 miles away from his birthplace, and he is proud that his "Sunshine Sound" has flourished for more than 37 years. "I remember that I always wanted to do something that would make people forget about their problems and be happy,” recalled KC. “I was fortunate enough to grow up in a multi-ethnic area that exposed me to a lot of different cultures and music … from pop to reggae to Latin. I experimented at trying to put all three types of music together, and the 'Sunshine Sound' was born.”

Katie Pearlman

An Accomplished Artist’s Exceptional New Single

Who: Americana/roots artist Katie Pearlman – one of the area’s most accomplished musicians as both a bandleader and singer/songwriter – has returned to the music charts with a new single, “The Girl She Used to Be.” From the artist herself: “It's my first song listed on iTunes in the country genre, which I'm superexcited about because I love country songs. A good country song can either make you laugh or make you cry ... I love the way country music makes me feel, so I'm excited to have a song that I hope will make people feel the same way. This song has already propelled my career to new heights, by gaining radio play on what I think is the best radio station in the New York area: WFUV 90.7 FM on John Platt's ‘Sunday Breakfast’ show.” Pearlman, long noted for her skills as a drummer, has stepped to the front of the stage in recent years as a guitarist and singer as well. The Katie Pearlman Band has performed at such major shows and venues as The Great South Bay Music Festival, The Patchogue Theatre, and K.J. Farrell’s. She’s also served as a session musician, performing on drums and vocals with local artists (she drummed on Rorie Kelly's 2013 live album, Sincerely Live). “I also formed two cover projects: The Grateful Girls and The Joni Project, which perform mostly on Long Island,” reported Pearlman. “These two projects kind of formed themselves, in the way that they were both formed as a result of shows I was asked to participate in.” The Grateful Girls are an acoustic duo featuring Cindy Lopez on vocals and Pearlman on guitar and vocals. Their repertoire consists of personalized takes on the music of The Grateful Dead, Motown, traditional standards, an occasional original, and more (Facebook.com/TheGratefulGirls). The Joni Project, a sextet fronted by Pearlman, brings interpretations of Joni Mitchell's work from her many eras and genres. “I went ‘solo’ in 2008 with my first album, Dreaming Again,” said Pearlman. “Up until then, I had been known to the northeast as a drummer. My first two albums have more of a jam-band feel, and I'm playing drums (and acoustic guitar) on them. My third album, Girls Like Us, has a more Americana feel, and I gave up the drummer's throne to focus solely on guitar. My latest singles have more of a singer/songwriter and country vibe, utilizing local musicians as accompaniment. Although my style has changed as I've grown as an artist, one thing that has stayed consistent is that my songs are about life experiences and people. My wish has always been to inspire people and make people feel good with my music. My lyrics are direct and to-the-point, and relatable to men and women, young and old. I hope to make another full album in the near future, and just finished a song in the studio that will be on it. To find out where I'm performing next, go to katiepearlman.com.” To Learn More About This Important Artist: Pearlman has a special show slated in the coming weeks as WFUV deejay John Platt hosts a “Long Island Showcase” at New York City's Rockwood Music Hall on Tuesday, January 13 at 7:30 pm. On the bill are area artists Pearlman, Robert Bruey, and Butchers Blind. Log on to katiepearlman.com.

What do artists as disparate as Jungle Funk, Catherine Russell, Troker, ICP Orchestra, Kellylee Evans, and Taylor McFerrin have in common? They’ll all perform as part of the 2015 New York City Winter Jazzfest. Now 11 years old, this year’s edition of the festival will feature more than 100 different groups including more than 400 musicians during three days in 11 venues in and around Greenwich Village from January 8 through January 10. Winter Jazzfest upholds the continued mission to showcase top quality jazz to industry professionals, avid jazz fans, and new audiences. Winter Jazzfest was established in 2005 with the goal of introducing underexposed artists – those that impacted the jazz scene of that period -- to professional presenters attending the Arts Presenters Conference (APAP). At that time, jazz groups were underrepresented, although they were (and remain) culturally essential to the continued development and future of the music and audiences. “Winter Jazzfest is pleased to continue our mission of offering a forum for presenters and music enthusiasts to experience and support the rich future of jazz,” the organizaion stated in a press release. Kicking off the 2015 festival, Winter Jazzfest celebrates two different events on Thursday, January 8 as “Blue Note Now!” features Winter Jazzfest favorites, including The Robert Glasper Trio;

Jose James Presents: Yesterday I Had The Blues: The Music of Billie Holiday; Derrick Hodge; and Kendrick Scott Oracle at Le Poisson Rouge. Also that night, WJF will support a benefit concert, “Jazz Legends for Disability Pride,” featuring Ron Carter, Renee Rosnes, Russell Malone, Brad Mehldau, George Coleman, Benny Golson, Jimmy Cobb, Peter Bernstein, and more. More details about Disability Pride NYC: disabilitypridenyc.com. On January 9 and 10, Winter Jazzfest continues with multi-venue marathon nights, with dozens of groups performing at staggered times throughout each night; all are located in the Village within close proximity. Other Kellylee highlights this Evans year: The legendary ICP Orchestra travels from Amsterdam for this event. ICP founder Han Bennik will also appear at Winter Jazzfest in duo formation with New York pianist Uri Caine, and multiple members of ICP will perform at the Improvised Round Robin Duets. These performances are supported as part of the Dutch Culture USA program by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York, by the Netherland America Foundation, and Fonds Podiumkunsten. Similar to past years, Winter Jazzfest will work with like-minded jazz presenters; this year brings a

Catherine Russell

new partnership with the The New York Hot Jazz Festival. On Saturday, January 10, The New York Hot Jazz Festival will take over a participating venue, Carroll’s Place, to feature Frank Vignola, The Ladybugs, Stephane Wrembel, and more jazz artists. Single-day, two-day, Troker and full festival passes are available. Ticket links are available at winterjazzfest.com; check the official website for the full lineup, ticket details, schedule updates, and more, as new events and artists were still being finalized at press time.

Gear Heads Not A Slicer Or Mop: Usually, the term “miracle product” is what cheesy infomercial and home shopping hosts like to throw around, or the type of jargon you hear on a 60-second spot for a garden hose or Chinese knife set. However, we recently tried three products that actually qualify as really distinct – not to mention that these are products that actually work, living up to every one of the promises made by their manufacturers. Folks ... these things are miracle products! Fresh Drop: Do you have a significant other or even a bandmate who … how do we put this … well ... to be blunt, stinks up the neighborhood every time he or she has to take a dump? We recently tried the amazing Fresh Drop after spying bottles of it at local Harmon locations, and to our shock and delight, the stuff actually works far better than we ever could have imagined. You only need to “drop” two drops in the bowl before doing your duty. Fresh Drop contains a highly concentrated plant extract that's environmentally friendly and is safe to use in every way, and you can just slip the tiny bottle in a pocket or purse of use on the go if your particular self-excavations have reached legendary status with family or friends. We still can't believe how well this product works; it's at most area Harmon stores.

Gizmos, Gadgets, & The Latest Trends

Micca Bookshelf Speakers: We recently had to say goodbye to a large set of classic Advent shelf speakers that were about two-and-a-half feet high – but what to replace them with? When we read about small but powerful Micca MB42 bookshelf speakers in recent audio reviews, we tried a pair. The speakers, containing a smallish four-inch carbon fiber woofer and a silk dome tweeter, are smaller across than a box of cereal, but they absolutely kick. If you use them in a sound system and add a good subwoofer, the sound is rich, clear, and capable of filling a living room with robust, clear, “east coast” high fidelity. And you won't have to break the bank – we

picked up a pair for a measly $60, making these speakers one of the best stereo buys we've ever encountered. Learn more at miccatron.com; Micca uses Amazon.com as its main retail source. Big Skinny: Most of us carry more than cash in our wallets – there's also probably three to five credit crads, ID cards, driver's licenses, notes, perhaps summonses, and more paper than a month's stack of Good Times issues. However, you can cut down the size of your wallet without having to cut down what's inside it with Big Skinny, a line of wallets, purses, and other goods that simply, somehow turn a bulging, thick burden into a much neater endeavor. Big Skinny wallets, according to the manufacturer, are made from a durable, water-resistant nylon microfiber 10 times thinner and lighter than leather, yet just as durable. So when you starting adding your stuff, skinny layers of nylon are being separated rather than thick layers of leather or cordura. As seen in our own photo here, this wallet is about half as thick as our old one, and much more comfortable inside the ol' back pocket. We scored ours at a craft fair, but you can find them at bigskinny.net, and they're also available through J.C. Penny.

CLASSIC ROCK

Elton John & The MillionDollar Piano

Old rock stars never die – they just go to Vegas: Elton John will extend his original-three year contract at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and will return with his "The Million Dollar Piano" show for three more years. Tickets for the January, March, and April 2015 performances are now on sale. John returned to Caesars Palace with his show in September 2011; at the centerpiece of the performance is the show's namesake piano, an engineering marvel featuring more than 68 LED video screens created by Yamaha. John is accompanied by his band, which includes longtime touring friend Davey Johnstone on guitar, Matt Bissonette on bass, John Mahon on percussion, Nigel Olsson on drums, and Kim Bullard on keyboards, with a special appearance by percussionist Ray Cooper. "The Million Dollar Piano" features hits and album tracks from throughout John's five decade career, including a selection of songs from "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. Tickets: (800) 745-3000 or thecolosseum.com. Also in residence at the same venue was the comebacking Shania Twain, whose sting ended in December … Veteran stars doing good: Cyndi Lauper recently took part in an event hosted by The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) concerning youth homelessness, as more than half of homeless youth become homeless for the first time because they are asked to leave home by a parent or

"No young person deserves to experience homelessness, especially because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, which is why we must stand with them to help them live the happy and healthy lives they do deserve," said Lauper, the Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award winner whose True Colors Fund works to build the nation's capacity to end homelessness among LGBT youth. Learn more about the cause at youthhomelessness.acf.hhs.gov … Frontiers Music Srl released Like It Is: Yes At The Bristol Hippodrome on December 9. MEDIA Value Pays Daze: Home shopping network ShopHQ – which was the new name given ShopNBC earlier this year (and it was ValueVision in the past ) – is being re-branded yet again. The new name for the network, Evine Live, is the brainchild of new CEO

Cyndi Lauper

Barbi Benton and 1977’s Going For The One, as they were performed live on the band’s 2014 world tour. “Playing complete albums is a great way to hear the development of Yes music and relive the familiar transitions from one track to another,” said the band's Steve Howe. As is the trend these days, these two classic albums are performed in their entirety, respecting the original arrangements, “and yet still adding a new and exciting flair,” according to a press release. “Going For The One is a wonderfully diverse set of songs, whilst The Yes Album contains the most ‘played live’ songs in the career of the band,” said Howe. “These are two bodies of music that many of the most devout Yes fans wanted to hear in their entirety,” added Geoff Downes. “I believe our performance at theBristol Hippodrome was among the most compelling of the entire tour.” Learn more at yesworld.com.

and longtime home shopping pro Mark Bozek, who from information gleaned from published reports seems bent on Evine selling “exclusive” products. In all, it sounds like a great idea; if this distant thirdplace shopping network is going to survive, it must change; those fourhour program blocks hawking Invicta and other low-end wristwatches are about as entertaining as a root canal … One of the breakout TV stars of 2014 is “Saturday Night Live's” comic actress and writer Leslie Jones, who has scored big in virtually every segment in which she’s appeared. She's been a comedy Leslie writer for years, working Jones with stars such as Chris Rock. At 47, it appears Jones' best days are still ahead of her … When allegations of sexual misconduct were being reported concerning Bill Cosby, our first thought was: “Doesn't everybody remember the guy practically lived at The Playboy Mansion during the 70s?” Cosby actually appeared on Playboythemed TV specials during that era,

and now people seemingly are shocked that he ever was spotted there? Even longtime Hugh Hefner girlfriend-turned “Hee Haw” star and country singer Barbi Benton told The Daily Mail that Cosby regularly visited the mansion on weekends… Speaking of Playboy, it's been widely reported Kim Kardashian's sister, Khloe, is vying to appear nude in the magazine. Remember the days when posing naked seemed scandalous? Today, it's looked upon as an enterprising career move … Steve Harvey's “Family Feud” is such a massive hit that New Jersey's Channel 9 is offering the show four times daily, with other airings on weekends. Reruns of the show can now also be seen on TV Land … Speaking of “The Feud,” former host Richard Karn is currently starring in the comedy play Sheer Madness, now drawing raves in Kansas City … Former CNN vice president of programming Janelle Rodriguez has moved to NBC News, where she's the new senior vice president of editorial … One of the biggest hit gifts of the Christmas season was the book-and-toy set based on the characters from the annual special “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”; chains such as Costco couldn't keep the sets, which included figurines of the

characters, on the shelves … Virtually every classic cartoon show is now available on DVD or streaming video – so what's the story with GrantrayLawrence Animation’s 1966 “Marvel Superheroes” featuring The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, SubMariner, and Thor? Isn't it time for a revival of an animated series that so many kids grew up watching?

here’s no question: The year of 2014 is ending as a special one for the Oyster Baybased heavy instrumental rock/fusion band known as Tauk. The quartet – which is booked for a winter tour opening for Umphrey’s Magee in January and February – will close out the year by opening for The Disco Biscuits at the famed Best Buy Theater in New York City on Tuesday, December 30 as part of the Biscuits’ three-show year-ending run. Act fast; tickets are at bestbuytheater.com. Talk is comprised of Matt Jalbert (guitar), Charlie Dolan (bass), Alric “A.C.” Carter (keyboards/organ), and Isaac Teel (drums). The instrumental band brings together genres as diverse as melodic rock, fusion, gritty funk, progressive rock, ambient, classic rock, hip hop,

explosive and leads to something completely different,” bassist Charlie Dolan explained. Carter added: “It also evokes how we are very different as people, but within the band, we find a way to work together and compliment each other’s musical ideas as an egoless unit.” Though area favorites since their formation, Tauk has built a dedicated and loyal fanbase through tireless touring. Festival highlights include Bonnaroo, The Hangout Music Festival, Summer Camp, LOCKN’, Hudson Project, FloydFest, Bear Creek, Art Outside and The Allman Brothers’ Peach Fest. Tauk has also opned for such national acts as The Funky Meters, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Papadosio, Lettuce, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, moe., Dopapod, Tim Reynolds & TR3, Toubab Krewe, The Revivalists, and others. her bandmates while paying homage to her own career. She is totally worthy and deserves much more attention than she normally gets. The inclusion of Green Day, children compared to most of the others on the list, is also admirable, and alongside Reed and Jett gives punk more of the credit it was initially denied in the 70s when the gene was born. Ringo Starr: Yes, we love him, yes, he had a great career of his own, but yes, this is how the hall keeps a Beatles-oriented buzz on the event – a very clever marketing device, but again deserved. Bill Withers: He gave us some brilliant hits in the 70s ("Ain't No Sunshine," “Use Me," "Lovely Day"). The Network Forges On: More than 100 people joined Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, NYS Assemblyman Phil Ramos, The Long Island GLBT Services Network, dozens of public officials, business leaders, and community members to announce that the first GLBT and GLBT-friendly senior housing development in the New York tri-state area will be coming to Long Island. It will be built on the current site of the Long Island GLBT Community Center in Bay Shore and adjoining properties. The development will feature 50 housing units, and will be anchored by a new 6,000-square foot GLBT center for The Network. The new center will provide health, recreational, nutrition, social, cultural, and other programs and initiatives. “Our baby boomer gay seniors grew up in a world where discrimination and hostility toward the community was supported and encouraged,” said David Kilmnick, CEO of The Network. “The people who supported a world that was highly discriminatory are the population that are in the retirement and nursing homes now. That’s what makes the GLBT and GLBT-friendly development in Bay Shore so critical. It will give our seniors and elders the high quality of life they deserve and in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment that celebrates their life.” The GLBT and GLBT-friendly affordable senior housing development in Bay Shore will be the first in the New York tri-state

area, the fifth in the country, and the first in the United States located in a suburban environment. “True Trans,” Real Life: The first four episodes of the new series “True Trans With Laura Jane Grace” recently premiered on AOL ON Originals. The 10-episode series features Grace, the transgender pioneer and lead singer of the punk band Against Me!, who came out as transgender at the height of her music career in 2012. “True Trans” shares the journey of Grace, the best-known transgender person in music, and other transgender individuals across the country. This unscripted “docu-series” explores poignant moments from Grace's life and the overall transition experience. Each short-form episode will dive deeper into the lives and emotions of this ever-expanding community, revealing the vulnerability and strength behind finding who they really are. The tour announcement came as Warren Haynes geared up to perform the national anthem at the New York Knicks game on December 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
