Girl Scouts of Central Indiana Girl Scouts of Central Indiana is the premier leadership development agency for girls in grades K-12 in central Indiana. Girl Scouts supports girls’ exploration of science and technology, financial literacy, health & fitness, and healthy relationship development through an award-winning leadership curriculum. All programs and activities that girls participate in are part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Based on research, and intentionally designed to fit the needs of individual girls, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience helps girls develop non-cognitive skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, and positive identity that are critical to their academic and personal success.
Circle the City On September 24, 2022, girls from across Girl Scouts of Central Indiana’s 45-county area will be invited to the Indiana State Museum and surrounding White River State Park facilities to participate in an array of STEM, outdoor, and life skill activities. Activities will be provided by partner exhibitors, giving the girls the opportunity to participate in events from coding and informatics to tours of the Indiana State House. Circle the City is 24 hours of learning and fun for every Girl Scout in central Indiana. In the evening, the Indiana State Museum will offer special programming with full museum access and special experiences like an IMAX movie, followed by an optional overnight. In the past, we have welcomed as many as 4,000 Girl Scouts, 2,000 adults, and 70 partner exhibitors to Circle the City. Though we operated with a reduced capacity in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited and hopeful to bring the event back to its full capacity in 2022.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES Sensory area sponsor Like any large event, Circle the City is loud and bustling! Added in 2021, the sensory area offers a quiet place for kids to reset when needed, supporting emotional wellbeing and helping to ensure Circle the City is a fun and welcoming space for all. In its inaugural year, reviews of the sensory area were glowing. Parents and troop leaders commented how helpful this resource was to them and their girls, and the sensory area was utilized throughout the day. This year, we are bringing the sensory area back and hoping to add new engaging sensory toys like fidget spinners and cozy spaces with bean bags to bring this space to its full potential. IMAX movie sponsor As the expo hall winds down, Circle the City is far from over. Many troops stay for exclusive programming with the Indiana State Museum, and one of the day’s most popular activities, an IMAX movie. This time offers a fun bonding experience for girls and troops, many of whom attend an IMAX movie for the first time thanks to Circle the City. Help make this special experience possible for our girls with this opportunity. Music sponsor No party is complete without music! The Circle the City DJ brings the tunes to this day of fun, running the outdoor music throughout the event, and offering special coordinated music for scheduled activities like scheduled activities with partners, and rounding out the day with a dance party. Not only does music bring fun to Circle the City, it also offers opportunities for girls to get up and active throughout the day. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES In addition to supporting Circle the City financially, there are many opportunities for team members to support this program through volunteering. It takes hundreds of volunteers to make a program this large happen. Here are a few opportunities for volunteers to support during this special day:
Run a booth as an exhibitor In past years, more than 70 organizations have come together at Circle the City to lead girls in hands-on activities to spark their imagination, teach them new things, and introduce them to new career paths and opportunities for their future. Our exhibitors traditionally run a booth for girls from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Most booths have 2 volunteers, while some have as many as 10. Most volunteers work the full day, but some choose to have multiple shifts. If needed, Girl Scout staff work with exhibitors ahead of the program to plan activities that will be engaging and approachable for girls.
Assist with program set-up and check-in Making Circle the City happen takes a lot of hands, and much of the work starts before the girls ever arrive. Every year we seek volunteers for the morning of the event to help get exhibitors set up as they arrive, check in girls and adults and direct them in what they can expect for the day, and greet our exhibitors and attendees as they arrive.
Do something different! Girl Scouts is all about creativity. We welcome ideas from our partners on how they would like to engage with Circle the City in a way all their own. For example, in past years IMPD has led girls on a bike ride on the Cultural Trail, and the courthouse has opened their doors for a tour.
