ABOUT DREAM HOUSE
for Medical Fragile Children WWW.DREAMHOUSEFORKIDS.ORG Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Inc is a local non-profit organization located in Lilburn, GA who serves Georgia’s medically fragile children – those with complicated health care needs. A medically fragile child is one who, because of an accident, illness, congenital disorder, abuse or neglect, has been left in a stable condition, but is dependent on life sustaining medications, treatments, or equipment and has need for assistance with activities of daily living. Dream House is devoted to giving children with complex health issues the quality of life they deserve. As medical technology evolves and more children are saved, the care of these children becomes increasingly more complicated. Families of medically fragile children can become overwhelmed with the complex care of their children. Just like all parents, they need a little down time once in awhile. But few sitters are equipped to care for a child with serious medical needs. Dream House has recognized this need and established the Weekend Retreat respite program. One of only a few organizations in Georgia that provides overnight respite for medically fragile children, the Dream House team of licensed professionals, including Registered Nurses and care associates, provide the oversight and care – and fun – for the children who stay. The children spend their weekend in a real home. An 8,000 square foot oasis, Dream House is specially equipped, yet still a home. Each child has their own bedroom during their stay. There are multiple playrooms where these children can interact with other children with similar conditions. Dream House does this at no cost to the family who is already financially strapped due to the needs of their medically fragile child. The Weekend Retreat offers an opportunity where children can feel at home, while their families can receive a much needed break from the stress and exhaustion that comes from providing constant, around the clock care. Dream House does not receive any state or federal funding and relies completely on donations from individuals, businesses, foundations, corporations and fund raising events.
