VIEW FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK We're here for you. During the recent days after the Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected orders from Governor Ducey, like many of you, the Chamber team is working remotely communicating on all digital platforms and holding both ZOOM meetings and teleconferences. We are in close communication with Arizona congressional leaders including Senators Sinema and McSally and Congressman O'Halleran regarding aid for small business, workers and families during this incredible COVID-19 Pandemic. Much of this data and information is passed along to you via email communiques or through member investor check-ins being conducted by both Kat Ross and Ksenia Hartl on a daily one-on-one basis. Our website is being maintained by Ashley Todd on its business resources pages and our hiring website named appropriately Hiring Flagstaff. Many companies are hiring! Businesses too numerous to list are keeping us updated, with 50 job postings and counting, to keep the public informed too. Business hours and changes to daily operations can be found on our heavily viewed COVID page on our website. It rocks! This edition of @7000ft comes to you in digital format and we’re grateful you’re reading! Isn’t everyone reading these days! A big thanks to Raina Page for her production skills. HomCo, our local lumber and hardware store started by Don Brackin and continued on by his son, Mike and his crew, is our cover story feature at a time that home improvement and outdoor projects seem to be THE thing this Spring. Please enjoy reading the Q&A. In addition, the Greater Flagstaff Chamber has joined forces with the Arizona Small Business Association, Arizona Commerce Authority, and Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry to provide a new website that gives both novice and experienced businesses individualized support to be ready for the second phase of CARES Act funding. This free, online service is receiving great kudos. We are certain by our engagement with hundreds of you individually over the past many weeks, that this assistance is needed and will give you hope that you can qualify. Please talk to your banker and get a meeting set in the very near future to finish and send off your paperwork. You must be ready to hit SEND by when the second phase is announced. These funds will also dry up quickly due to high demand nationally. For additional resources and direction please go to www.caresactAZ.com. Thank you to our partners and APS for funding this HUGE BUSINESS SUPPORT TOOL. Of note, in the first round of CARES Act funding, 11,000 loans were made in Arizona for a total of $3.5B. Since a time in the future to reopen our economy is being discussed now, Governor Ducey has named a task force to provide guidance on how to be most effective in elevating consumer, employee, and employers' confidence to reopen in a safe and healthy environment.

Julie Pastrick President + CEO

We could use your suggestions about how those of you that have been open as essential businesses have managed your work places so employees feel safe. Please email jpastrick@ flagstaffchamber.com with your guidelines. All will remain private and shared in aggregate form only. The Chamber has heard from some of you already and looks forward to playing a central role informing the Governor on Northern Arizona concerns and suggestions on how to reopen our economy the most successfully and in a safe manner! Last but certainly not least, our Chamber Golf Classic Fundraiser has been rescheduled to take place, Friday, June 19 on the private course at Flagstaff Ranch Golf Club. Mark your calendars and plan on playing. Registration for foursomes is open at flagstaffchamber.com! We can’t wait to see you there! Joe Galli has been actively communicating business information from our elected officials, and more, on the Take Action side of flagstaffchamber.com. If you have missed webinars or chats with our elected leaders, you can catch up there. Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected. Social distancing matters. The Greater Flagstaff Chamber is here for you. We’ll reopen for business when the time is right. Thank you to each of you for your membership investment which keeps our doors open. We are grateful. And to the heroes working the frontlines of the COVID virus, our prayers and blessings go out to you. Stay safe, and #FlagstaffStrong. Respectfully,

Advancing a Strong Community

MIKE BRACKIN TODD CALLAN WHAT BROUGHT YOU INTO YOUR BUSINESS OR PROFESSION? I'm the fourth generation of my family to make a career in the lumber and hardware business. My great grandfather bought two lumber yards in Iowa during the depression which at one time had grown to the fifth largest lumber chain in the country. My father worked in the family business until he started his own company in 1975 and I worked with him at that time. I have always dreamed of owning my own lumberyard, ever since I was a kid. HOW LONG HAS YOUR COMPANY BEEN IN BUSINESS OR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THIS PROFESSION? Our company has been in business for 45 years and I've been working here since day one, while going to school and beyond. We opened the Flagstaff store in 1979 and I moved here full time in 1980 to attend NAU and work. IF YOU COULD GO BACK AND CHANGE YOUR PROFESSIONAL PATH IN SOME WAY, WOULD YOU? IF NO, WHY NOT? Yes because I always wanted to play pro baseball, but then again no because owning and operating a business like this was always my dream. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR INDUSTRY? The people. I've met and worked with wonderful people locally as well as nationally. The lumberyard industry is like a fraternity and I've developed lifelong friends. It's also been gratifying knowing we have had a hand in the growth of Flagstaff, as well as having

the resources to help people tackle problems and projects that arise in their own home. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT IN YOUR PROFESSION? Patience. I started at the bottom as a kid and climbed my way to to managing the operation in 11 years. To this day I'm still learning. TO WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE YOUR PERSONAL SUCCESS? In the early days it was hard work and the desire to learn. Now it's a matter of surrounding myself with good people that believe in my vision and my operation of the business in these changing times. I've learned so much from my team and feel I'm only as successful as they are. My current team is the best I've ever had. I've never been one to shy away from change if I feel it's in the best interest of the company. DOES YOUR WORK DIFFER FROM THE EXTERNAL PERCEPTION OF WHAT YOU DO? IF YES, HOW SO? For the last few years I've been able to let my strong team run the day to day operations. I still am there most days except now I am able to work on the business rather than in it, while continuing to be the face of the company. The place really runs smoothly without my direct involvement, I'm very proud of this fact and have always strived to be able to say that. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN OR TO BALANCE OUT YOUR WORKLIFE? I love to golf, there is no better feeling than missing a day or two to be on the

green. also enjoy traveling with Penne and spending time at Lake Powell. Now that my kids are grown, any time spent with them is fun as well. WHAT INSPIRES YOU OR REMOTIVATES YOU? My wife, kids and grandkids are what makes me tick. Second would be a great day on the golf course. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO PUT DOWN ROOTS IN FLAGSTAFF? It felt natural to live in Flagstaff as I attended NAU and had the business here. I've never really thought of leaving here except for when the wind is really roaring in the spring. Having grown up in Scottsdale, I always felt drawn to a smaller town and the mountian life. If I need big, it's only two hours away. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF BEING IN THE FLAGSTAFF COMMUNITY? I love looking at the peaks on a clear day after it snows, and I ove the feeling of being able to help Flagstaff because this community means so much to my family and I. I'm proud to call this city my home. WHAT PART OF YOUR LIFE TODAY COULD YOU NEVER HAVE ANTICIPATED 10 YEARS AGO? I never thought the retail environment would change as much as it has and seems to change now every couple of years. Being open to change and having such a great team means whatever comes next, we are ready.

ADVENTURE AWAITS AT OUT OF AFRICA Out of Africa Wildlife Park is entirely different than any typical zoo or animal park. They offer a way to experience the animal kingdom closer than you ever thought possible without crossing the Atlantic Ocean! Although most zoos and attractions have temporarily closed down, Out of Africa has adjusted to allow themselves to remain open by changing the way you can experience these exotic animals. Instead of walking the park, you can now drive through and see the animals from your vehicle while maintaining social distancing. While you explore the park, animal trainers are waiting for you by each exhibit. The trainers will explain what each animals’ daily activities are, their special qualities and quirks, answer your questions, and provide an actual “front seat” to the world of African Wildlife. From your vehicle, you will meet Enoch, a beautiful Black Leopard. You’ll also meet Jericho, a Southern White Rhinoceros, who’s size will leave you speechless. Next, you will arrive at the Spotted Hyena exhibit, with "Chipa” and “Chitabe" and if you’re lucky, the hyena’s will let you hear their hilarious laughter. You will also experience tigers splashing in the water, zebras, giraffes, bears, wolves, and so much more. Out of Africa Wildlife Park is also offering lower prices on their Drive Through experience to make their park more accessable and is an exciting way to take you and your family away to a colorful world of astonishing wildlife without having to go very far. There is a current discount of $22 for adults and $11 for kids between the ages of 3 and 12 years. The Predator Zip Line is open, but for safety there is no food service, shows, shuttles or additional tours during this time to keep everyone protected.

CHAMBER ADVOCACY: CONGRESS PASSES RELIEF BILL III

At or around 8 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2020 the SBA loan/ grant program known as the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) had run out of money. The federal relief program, in less than a full week, burned through $349 billion dollars. It’s estimated Arizona small businesses (500 employees or less) received approx. $3.5 billion of the initial PPP monies. At the end of that same week, the other program run through the SBA – Economic Injury Disaster Loans or EIDLs – also was insolvent. The shortage of funding has left many Arizona, and Flagstaff small businesses holding the bag for paying their employees while business activity has been halted entirely or extremely curtailed. Not to worry, or worry too much, the U.S. Congress this week of 20 April 2020 has passed CARES Act II legislation, which is simply a bill that adds money to both the SBA EIDL program, and the PPP.

allotted in round three for PPP will not likely last that long, especially given the backlog of applications that were not yet funded when the initial monies expired. What then? Well, no worries. Before the U.S. Senate had passed the Phase III bill with above stated funding, a discussion in Congress on a Phase IV piece of legislation was underway. Many have noted the Phase III bill is likely to be woefully underfunded, and thus Phase IV is needed. Phase IV is set to expand the PPP, however, to include entities like 501(c)6 and (c)7 non-profits (includes local chambers of commerce), and the talk of specifically funding infrastructure projects across the nation has been part of initial conversations. We’re excited to see where Phase IV will take us, during this unprecedented time. As you have thoughts and feedback on the federal stimulus packages and relief efforts, or if you have a personal story related to applying for and receiving or not receiving SBA EIDL or PPP monies, please send us a note at advocacy@flagstaffchamber.com.

The good news? $310 billion more dollars will be available in PPP, $60B of which will go through community banks and credit unions, so as designed to get dollars to mom & pop small We wish to hear from you! businesses ASAP. Another $60 billion was put into the EIDL program with this legislation, as well. That’s the good news. The bad news is the PPP has burned through $60 billion daily, once it was fully up and running, and the additional $310 billion

WILLIAMS BUSINESS ALLIANCE 2020 REFRESH In its 4th year serving the Williams community, the Williams Business Alliance (WBA) was excited to kick start 2020 with a renewed energy & focus. After the closing of the Williams Chamber of Commerce in August 2016, the Williams Business Alliance, a division of the Greater Flagstaff Chamber and supported by APS, emerged as a platform to continue to help promote local business and advance a strong business climate. Through the years, the organization has grown in numbers and has some exciting new changes on tap for 2020. To start, the WBA is thrilled to announce the newest member of it's team, Tanya Christie of National Bank of Williams. Tanya will serve as the Williams Business Alliance Community Ambassador and looks forward to her new role as the local community liaison. “Part of my role as Branch Manager of National Bank is to get out and interact with the community more. It seemed like a natural fit to combine my professional role with this awesome volunteer opportunity” said Tanya. National Bank of Williams has been a member of the WBA since its inception and has been extremely supportive of the efforts to keep a strong local business organization in town. The WBA was also excited to debut the new member decal and logo design created exclusively for its members. Julie Pastrick, President and CEO of the Greater Flagstaff Chamber remarked, “It was fun to collaborate with our WBA members in creating a decal and logo that better matches the Williams identity. We couldn’t be more pleased at the eye-catching outcome!” This new logo and decal can be seen throughout town on storefronts and windows identifying members of the WBA & promoting “shop local”. It is an important distinction, as a study conducted by the Shapiro Group in 2012 revealed that “consumers are more likely to buy from Chamber members over non, as they presume they are more communityminded and trustworthy.” Once restrictions are lifted, the WBA looks forward to convening the ever-popular “Wake Up Williams Breakfast Club” network development event where local business leaders are given the opportunity to meet and connect with others in a structured, face-to-face format. Dee Seehorn of Pine Country Restaurant has graciously hosted this free event for the past 3 years which includes a scrumptious breakfast & souvenir mug to take home. Stay tuned for more information on the next Wake Up Williams will be held again at the Pine Country Restaurant. With so many more great things in the hopper for 2020, the Williams Business Alliance looks forward to continuing to serve and promote the Williams business community and hopes to welcome many more members in the coming months. For more information on the WBA or new membership, please contact Tanya Christie at National Bank or by phone at 602.316.4720. Williams Business Alliance, where we believe a healthy business climate and thriving community are inseparable. Kat Ross, VP of Investor Relations
