WORK EXPERIENCES iDEA Group&Associates Co Owner - Design department manager at iDEA Group&Associates February 2014 - Present (3 months) We are an international professional group and we operate in Industrial&Yacht&Automotive Design, Architecture and Engineering. We are creative, positive minded and very quick to deliver projects. Very confident in using design and digital modeling programs (Autodesk Alias, Rhinoceros). In a short time, we can achieve high quality results with a keen eye for detail and perfection. We have completed a number of various design architectural projects and nautical and automotive challenges. He developed already 3 MOTOGP, a powerboat P1 offshore and a fast 24m yacht made of prepreg carbon fiber. PERSONAL STATEMENT Outside academia I worked three years in the nautical world where I travelled a great deal especially when I was team manager of Metamarine during the Powerboat P1 World Championship. This experience gave me responsibility to organize and create a cohesive team, a feature that I learned when captain of my football team when we won 4 Italian championships. I’m also challenging, a tireless worker and a passionate in what I do. I had a lot motivating work experiences but one of the most complete was the role of buyer at Garimarine, a modern shipyard in Massa Carrara, where I learned how to develop commercial perspicacity and where I cultivated my interest in technology, especially as regards use of composite materials such as prepreg carbon fibre. Another interesting project was, with engineer Massimo Giovannelli, a project of a solar racing car for long distances. The project started with an aerodynamic shape optimized body to reduce friction. We analyzed and designed all the mechanical and electronic components. This experience, only on paper, was an invaluable opportunity to learn a method of design, find a solution to technical challenges in a different field of study, the automotive. The main objective was the reduction of consumption, and was an opportunity to understand how any "machine" is the result of a mix of technologies that must be able to connect with innovative solutions. My work experiences have made me a problem solver and a solution finder while my candidature at the University of Cambridge for the academic years 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 helps me to look for excellence everytime. PUBLISHED PROJECTS GLADIO July 2013 Gladio is a 50 ft Fast Cruiser sailboat. It takes inspiration by the striped swordfish and it is designed to cruise in the Mediterranean sea. The hull lines are modern starting from the concept to have clean lines and pure forms. The hull is thought to be fast but with an internal volume big enoght to have 7 guests onboard. There are a lot of characteristic element. The most innovative is the double glazed window for the guest rooms, usually an element used on bigger boat. Inside there is no air conditioning but the air changing is provided by natural ventilation. ISURUS July 2013 Isurus is a 24m fast yacht designed for Bruce Wayne. The style is inspired by a Mako shark and all the lines are coherent with the main ideas of speed, agility and power. There are many interesting solutions like the "terrace on the sea" that can be moved up and down in order to have an easy access to the sea. Another solution is the hidden Jacuzzi at the bow. The engines are a couple of MTU V10 combined with Arneson surface propellers and the hull is designed in Carbon fiber prepreg in order to be enough lightweight to achieve high speed. CFTiWood SKIS October 2013 The skis are designed on forces involved during skiing and they are inspired by nature, precisely to swallows. They are also reduce to essential to be lighter and faster. The main study is about the energy involved into the ski during a turn. It isn’t equal for both the skis and it isn’t also symmetrical into the same ski. The energy comes from the inside blade of the downstream ski to the outside. It follows a precise trajectory based three elements: pressure, turn radius and ski flexibility. The ski is designed to be more stiffness where necessary. The skis materials are an obvious choice to give them flexibility, lightweight and an interesting texturized surface. Every material involved to built them are light, stiff and selected for them matt finish. Carbon forged is a synonymous about technology and it is used thanks to its fast and cheap building process and ready surface after moulding. Titanium is used because it is water resistant and 45% lighter than stainless steel. Apricot wood is involved to its resistance. It is a light and com- pact wood used since the ancients to make inlays. It’s color is pale yellow with dark veins with a smooth surface. PLAYING CARD CHAIR June 2011 Selected project by the IFDesign Awards's international jury 2013. The play card chair come from the idea of creating an object that was easy to move used in situations where space is precious, like a yacht or a race sailboat. The shape is inspired by playing cards and the chair has rounded corners for better movement and a maximum thickness of 5mm. The material, carbon fiber, is an obvious choice for lightness and rigidity, chosen for its attractive properties associated with technology. During the development of the project we realized that the chair is also suitable for areas such as catering, temporary exhibitions and outdoor events. 100 chairs can be stored in just 50cm.
