FEROSH FALL'19

've never been more excited for Winter than I have now, especially since the weather is finally changing. Fall represents many things for me. New beginnings. Closing Chapters. Grand adventures. It's a time for self-reflection and growth so that when Spring starts to bloom, we can start with something new.

This particular Fall was quite troubling for me regarding my time in Second Life™. I questioned my priorities with my creativity, if there should be an issue, and the amount of time I spend on a platform that can seem so cruel and heartless. But, it was in this season of online hardship that I found the strength that was blessed to me by my real life mother. It was the love and kindness my Second Life™ friends and family that I found peace and serenity. In these people I found my creativity and passion for the things that I truly love to do on this platform. The people you surround yourself with define you. I believe that is the quality of the people that you surround yourself with

that is important, not the quantity.

This issue is packed full of quality photography from some of the best photographers in Second Life™. I am always grateful to have a core group of individuals who dedicate themselves to this magazine twice a year and welcome our new talent. This season we've started inviting designer advertising, which I hope you'll see on a regular basis. We will also start incorporating art, and photography related articles. And always on display. the fantastic work of our Ferosh Creative Department shines again. Cheers to a beautiful winter. Love the people you love. Keep your chin up midst adversity. Laugh until your guts hurt. Smile until your cheeks burn. Be thankful for the few that truly support you. And, always, Ferosh will be here to help inspire.

019 is coming to a close and with it you'll begin to notice a particular trend in social media posts. There are those who are reflecting on all their accomplishments and defeat, those who are evaluating their goals and aspirations for the new year, and those expressing their gratitude to the people who have always supported them. But, to be completely honest, I often wonder how many of those posts are simply coming from people jumping in on the bandwagon and how many are genuine?

In this digital age and time, wherein we face screens more than we face actual people, it's utterly difficult to weed out the sincere from the hypocritical. Hurtful words are so much easier to spew out as we can easily turn off our computers and go about our lives like nothing happened. At one point, it was almost impossible to scroll through my Second Life Facebook without getting ovewhelmed by the toxicity of it all. But why stay? I know some of you are asking that... I stay because of the creativity that this platform allows me to unleash. I stay for the people I've gotten to know and have embraced me for who I am. For the year 2020, I do wish for the Second Life community to be more inclusive and encouraging and that

14 | FALL ISSUE | FEOSH

is something that Ferosh is gearing towards, recognizing the immense talent of the residents of our virtual world and uncovering hidden gems along the way. It has been the first time that I have not done a photo for an issue as I feel like these creative minds whose works you'll see as you peruse the next pages are more deserving of the spotlight than I am. Let us learn to build people up as opposed to tearing them down. For the year 2020, I wish nothing but positivity and light to us all. I do believe that as long as we have a happy outlook in life, everything else follows suit. So ignore that person who took the time to type nonsensical comments. Ignore that person who took the time to submit a virtual secret to try and hurt you. Ignore that person who took the time to make sure they tell you that you are not good enough. Ignore them and let the power of the universe deal with their actions. Instead, Focus your time and energy on the the people and things who do matter. Focus your time and energy to living your life to the fullest because you owe yourself that much.

Creative Assistant's Message

A

round this time of year, I get so excited for what’s to come. Kind of a weird mindset since Winter harkens in what feels like the death of Summer. This is around the end of the calendar years as well. Soon, many of us will bear witness to the year antics of Mother Nature as she blankets the land with snow and ice for the whole lot of us.

change isn’t as easy to come by. I don’t think I am the only way who feels this way either. Change in our real lives is so scary. With financial changes that could effect our lives for years to come. To who will be chosen to lead us in this ever-changing world. Down to which product I will have to change too because of cancel culture make the brands I love “cancelled”.

I love this time of year, not just for the changes in weather, or the festivities like Thanksgiving (for us in The States), Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, The Winter Solstice, or anything else that just so happens to occur during the last part of the year. Not even the celebration of the New Year to come.

We, as humans, have this amazing ability to change ourselves and those around us. Change that is both for the good of people, and changes that will showcase how cruel we can be. But changes need to happen to make our lives continue on. Staying stagnate is now how humanity can operate and flourish. We need to fail and learn from our mistakes. We need to have great achievements that will drastically mix up the status quo. Staying still or wanting to go back isn’t a choice anymore, it the end of us.

I love this time of year because I get to start anew with the yearly cycle to once again repeat itself. Like most people, I am fickle and will make sense some of the time. Other times, I make as much sense an oxymoron. But I love the idea of change, and also fear the idea of change. It has been, and always will be a strong factor in my life. For people who know me, I am the epitome of change. I will change my Second Life™ land each season, I will change my avatars’ looks ever so often, I will want to keep the excitement of what SL has to offer alive as much as I can. But, in my real life,

36

So, as the snow falls, and you watch the landscape changes to an ice hue of white, or you have something different this year at the Thanksgiving table that your mother “read all about and wants to try it out.” Just remember that change is exciting, that change is good, but most importantly; that change is necessary.

GBTH CORNER:

F

ounded in October 2017, the GBTH project is a concept gallery in Second Life. Starting with a proposal of collective exhibitions on empathy, to then moving on a parcel to host monthly art installations and now on a full sim, our goal is always to highlight the creative possibilities on the grid by hosting exhibitions from residents that approach Second Life in distinct ways. From building to writing, blogging to machinimas, 3D sculpting to decor skills, we want to make art possible for the artists and accessible for the visitors. Aside the four parcels dedicated to solo exhibitions, where the artist is in complete control of the environment and can express their ideas without the constraints of a prefabricated building, we also came up with a proposal of a collective 3D exhibition that welcomes anyone with basic UV map knowledge and inworld edit skills. Inspired by the Cow Parade, Berlin Bears and toy art, this collective exhibition is heading to the 3rd round, and since the 2nd have a collaboration with Rachel Breaker, who creates exclusive models to be customized by the participants. Feel like giving it a go? The announcements for the 3rd round will be out soon in our inworld group and Facebook page! Not really sure that this is for you, how it works, if your skills are enough and so on? You can send an email to contact@thegbthproject.com or IM Marina MĂźnter (vivresavie.resident) inworld. DiXmiX Galler y Presents: Natsumi Xenga

N

atsumi Xenga is a Japanese-American artist who specializes in incorporating Second Life™ avatars into her real photographs.

Natsumi started to create photos in Second Life™ about seven years ago and hasn’t looked back yet. She is a self taught photo editor. She primarly spent hours upon hours watching videos from people who selflessly put out their own videos to help others. This inspired Natsumi to do something similar. She hosts a weekly live stream where people can watch her edit her photos. This will be Natsumi’s first gallery exhibit at DiXmiX Gallery that showcase many of her works. DiXmiX Gallery has been around for over a decade, but will be celebrating their third anniversary of their current gallery space.

For her first exhibition like this, Natsumi wanted to bring the real world and Second Life™ world together. Like her motto goes, "Bringing realism and reality to your virtual world." With all of her pictures for this gallery, SL models will be placed in a RL picture and hopefully created a realistic and smooth transition as possible to merge these two mediums together. Think of it as if the Second Life™ models were brought into the real world.

“We are

real people after all, so it seemed fitting” – Natsumi

Natsumi's exhibition will be open to the public from now until January 4th, 2020. It is highly recommended that you go and check out DiXmiX Gallery to experience what Natsumi’s gallery looks like.

Opening party Saturday Nov 16th @ 12 pm

Friendship Valley

Music Festival

F

riendship Valley Music Festivals (FVMF) provide a wonderful experience of music, entertainment, and most obviously, friendship. If you’re looking for a “Coachella” like experience in Second Life™, then this is most definitely the event for you. This Autumn the festival lasted 1.5 days with back-to-back DJs and Second Life™ music artists providing over 20 hours of continuous entertainment. Citizens from all walks on the grid showed to hear diverse music and to support their favorite djs. One of my favorite things about the FVMF is having an opportunity to leave the solitude of my platform and join a group of people that I can majorly call my friends. And, it is the inclusivity, warmth, and wonderful spirit that surrounds me that makes me feel like an accepted member of the Second Life™ community. Another aspect that I really love about FVMF is the fashion scene. Most citizens show in hippy-chic, indie-festive gear worthy of photographing.I also love watching people and speaking to strangers who usually become friends. The next festival will happen Spring 2020.
