The Kardashian Sisters Launch Self-Tanning Gel Entrepreneurs Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe Kardashian are continuing their quest of conquering the fashion world and can now add beauty to their list of many endeavors with the launch of their new self-tanner gel. The sisters have always promoted a healthy lifestyle. “My sisters and I are all about getting the perfect tan without harming our skin. We’re always on the lookout for the best self-tanner so we thought we’d create the perfect formula and share it with everyone,” said Kim Kardashian. We talked to them about how to get the perfect tan, their favorite travel destinations, and where they shop worldwide.

FACTIO MAGAZINE: Tell us about your jewelry collection, Grayce by Molly Sims. MOLLY SIMS: I have been a jewelry collector all of my life. As a young girl, I would accompany my mother to estate sales and we would buy boxes and boxes of jewelry. You could basically say that I grew up playing in my mother’s jewelry box! Jewelry was the first thing that really distinguished my personal style. The collection consists of necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets ranging in price from $75-$250. FM: How would you describe your style? MS: I am very eclectic, but I think I am most like the All-American girl, jeans and a t-shirt.
FM: Who is the “Grayce” woman? MS: I created my collection for four different types of girls: The Gypsy/Bohemian—An approach to life that fuses the wild and unconventional way of a gypsy with the sophistication and speed of a jet setter. The City Sophisticate—Trend is her middle name, she’s your go to girl for absolutely everything related to fashion, beauty, style, and life. The Glamour Girl—The Hollywood starlet represented in the iconic women: Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie O. The All-American—Inspired by the All-American icons like Lauren Hutton and Christie Brinkley, she is relaxed and effortless in her “style.” FM: What are the top items you have to have in your closet? What items should every woman own? MS: I love the basics: a great pair of jeans, a great t-shirt, and of course, a LBD. Every girl should have a statement piece of jewelry that makes an outfit.

FM: What do you put on to feel beautiful? MS: Depends on where I am. I do wear my Rodin oil everyday when applying my makeup—that is always my constant beauty go to. It makes my skin look and feel amazing. FM: Where are your favorite places to travel? MS: I love Cabo! It is my favorite place to relax. FM: What are your stay slim secrets? MS: I work out a lot. Tracey Anderson workout! It’s really hard. You do 30 minutes of cardio and seven minutes of arms wearing the weights. The heater is on you so you sweat and it gets your metabolism going. It works. I made my friend do it once; she hated it. FM: If you weren’t an actress/model/designer, what would you be right now? MS: Probably something to do with law or politics. Tell us how you came up with the theme for your wedding. We wanted to be married on a beach and to spend several days with close friends and family so a destination wedding was an easy How did you meet? We were both out in Chicago decision for us. The Location: Prairie Productions How did you meet? We met during college at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I first saw Mike at orientation, but didn’t actually meet him until about a year later at a good friend’s party. It was rad. How was your first date? Totally incredible! I was laughing from the moment he picked me up and (10 years later) I haven’t stopped since. I still get the same excited butterflies in my belly just thinking of him! We went for dinner and realized we’re both the plainest eaters ever, (a major theme in all of the wedding speeches!) as my brother-in-law said at our wedding, “Oh my God, there are two of them and they’ve found each other.” What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue? I’m a bit sentimental so I had a lot of old. My Aunt Grace gave me my Grandma Rosa’s handkerchief. I wasn’t ever able to meet her and it was really special to have her with me that day. In the same pocket, I carried my Papa’s Mezuzah. My dad gave me Papa’s Mezuzah when I was ten and I wore it everyday for almost four years. I loved reaching into my pocket knowing I had something special from my dad’s parents. Tell us how you came up with the theme for your wedding. I guess our theme was dancing and fun! We knew that everything would turn out beautifully as long as it was built upon friendship, love, and a damn good time. Visually Mike and I both like clean, white, modern spaces, mixed with eclectic pops of color. Prairie was the perfect setting. Tell us about your dress, jewelry, hair, makeup! My dress was so fun to make! I sewed 30 yards of soft, white organza in folds to make a huge skirt that was still very light and danceable. I now totally understand why wedding dresses are so expensive, there’s a lot of work wrapped up into that one garment, but man it was fun to make. My hair and all of my wedding party’s hair was done by the fabulous Irene from Salon Blonde. I have really long hair and it was up by the end of the night, but it was fun to give it a little curl. My makeup artist was incredible. I’m not a big makeup wearer and I was really nervous that I wouldn’t look like myself but Adriana Aude made me feel so comfortable and natural. Honestly, all I cared about that day was seeing Mike. When I finally got downstairs at the hotel to see him, we were both so excited! Tell us about your honeymoon! We didn’t have much time to get away so we wanted to find something nearby that would still be special. Since we were married at the beginning of August, leaving our beautiful weather didn’t seem to make sense either so we took an incredible three-day trip to Saugatuck, MI. Our honeymoon began the moment we got in the car. It was so cool that we could have such a fun trip so close to home. It was wonderful to actually go away just the two of us. We both work so much that it was the first time we had taken a trip together in over three years. Oval Beach, Everyday People’s Cafe, and blueberry picking at DeGrandchamp’s. It was awesome. The other perk about having traveled so close to home was that we truly fell in love with the area. It’s close enough that we’ve gone back three more times since and get to relive the great memories. We’ve found a place to travel to that we hope to create a family tradition from.

Tom was being interviewed on a radio show about being named an “eligible bachelor” in a local mag. He said he had always wanted to meet me, so the hosts called me up at work to broker a live introduction. When he asked me out, I turned him down (thinking it was just a stunt), but a week later we bumped into each other at a party and * * * fireworks!! * * * How was your first date? We met at a fundraiser on a Friday night, and we were together until the sun came up. A few hours later, he was texting me to arrange our first real date for that same night (we went to Japonais, and then sat in his car and talked until two a.m.). On our second date the next night, over sushi he told me, “I’m going to marry you someday.” Ten months later we were engaged. Tom, How did you propose? I’ve been a bachelor my whole life; I never really imagined myself getting married, but when I met Susanna, I almost instantly knew that I would. There was no real rush. In fact, I tried to take my time, but when our first Christmas together rolled around... well, it just seemed like the time. The strangest thing was once we met, I wasn’t just resolved to get married eventually, I actually couldn’t wait, a big change in my point of view. So on Christmas Eve, I hid the ring in the cushions of the couch, then just whipped it out on Christmas morning and asked her to marry me. She cried a lot, which I took to
be a good thing. How did you come up with the theme for your wedding? For the last ten years, I’ve gone to nearly every opening, gala and fundraiser in town, so I know that sit-down dinners are no fun. Instead, we planned for our reception to be more of a party with great views from the top of the Hancock building, highboy tables instead of banquet seating, food stations instead of a formal dinner, and the best nightclub DJ in Chicago, White Shadow. Tell us about your dress, jewelry, hair, makeup: I collect vintage gowns and jewelry so I worked with Laurie Davis, owner of LuLu’s at the Belle Kay, who found a gorgeous 1960s empire-waist
Valima: Since in our culture we tend to have two receptions, I wanted to make sure I looked different on both days. I decided to do an outfit that was very modern. It was a tulle dress covered in silver embellishment with a long train, designed by Sana Safinaz. Since the theme was also contemporary, I chose a pastel blue. My hair was down with curls, and I also wore a pastel blue chiffon veil. My jewelry was gifted to me by my in-laws consisting of diamond and pearl drop chandelier earrings, a necklace, and a headpiece. This day, I decided to do a smoky eye with nude lips and silver Swarovski encrusted Stuart Weitzman evening shoes. Tell us about your honeymoon! We chose Cozumel for our honeymoon, as we had always wanted to go to Mexico. We stayed at the Wyndham Aura Resort for eight days, which exceeded our expectations. We had booked a suite that was almost unreal with two bedrooms, a large living room, five balconies, a rooftop sundeck overlooking the ocean and a private 15x35 foot infinity pool! Bridal Hair As bridal season is upon us, salons are flooded with blushing new brides for updo’s and trials for their upcoming weddings. For this season’s fresh styles, all eyes were focused at the Fall/Winter 2010 Bridal Fashion Week, where they uncovered the hottest in bridal looks. For this year, classic, soft and feminine looks encompassed the runway. At Amsale, models donned classic low ponytails with soft curls. Models at Christos’ displayed the classic bun to mirror the look that Redken Session Stylist Giovanni Giuntoli created: a ponytail in the back, curled with a large barrel iron, then, finishing the look by wrapping the ponytail into a bun while leaving a 1-2 inch section out of the updo. Another classic look on the runway designed by Kenneth Pool was the French pleat, a timeless look making a comeback in bridal. Giuntoli recreated the perfect hair style using the volumizing texture whip to prep, and topped it off with the 02 mega shine spray. Macy’s Glamorama Pre-party In early June, Macy’s celebrated their biggest event of the year with a pre-party filled with glamour. The Don Julio Loft Extravaganza During a three-day event, guests got a sneak preview of Don Julio tequilas, as well as new fashions by Chicago Fashion Incubator. As part of the celebrations, guests indulged in an exclusive dinner prepared by Chef Patricio Sandoval of Mercadito Chicago, and enjoyed a live performance from Latin band, Guitarra Azul. Cynthia Rowley Bridesmaids On June 15, dreams came true as both bridesmaids and brides celebrated the launch of the new Cynthia Rowley Bridesmaids collection. Chanel Fall/Winter 2010 On a hot summer day in Chicago, fashion insiders were cooled off by Artistic Director Karl Lagerfeld’s Fall/Winter 2010 Chanel ready-to-wear collection. The private luncheon was hosted by Avril Graham of Harper’s Bazaar, at the Michigan Avenue location on June 15. Lagerfeld’s inspiration for this timeless collection was his love for snow. The collection presented was another jaw-dropping classic with tweeds, exaggerated furs, and smoky colors creating a winter wonderland effect. The sophistication and luxury of the collection matched that of the ambiance, as guests were dressed to the nines, sipping wine and socializing at the Chanel boutique. Giuliana’s Toy Story On July 1, E! celebrity Giuliana Rancic hosted a private screening of Toy Story 3 at AMC North. Presented by Chase, the red-carpet event treated the bank’s top customers to a sneak peek at the 3-D film. Guests—many with tots in tow—got complimentary popcorn and soda, and left with mini Etch-A-Sketches. Hermès Store Opening in Chicago
Everyone could use a little more Parisian attitude, and that’s exactly what Hermès was thinking when they opened their new Chicago flagship store. The 7,000 sq. ft. store is Chicago’s old Barney’s located on Rush and Oak Street. The French luxury brand originally made its debut with saddles and harnesses, so it should come as no surprise that they chose an equestrian theme for the grand opening. Hay barrels wrapped in Hermès ribbon decorated the streets, and surrounding the store were men on stilts donning horse headdresses and wearing Hermès suits while greeting guests. Inside, a performance by Redmoon, French pastries and champagne were enjoyed, but most importantly, taking in all of those Birkins. -Nicole Simone
Islands of the World Fashion Week

Lucky Chicagoans didn’t have to buy an expensive plane ticket when the islands came to them in style. In early August, Chicago hosted the Islands of the World Fashion Tour at Loft on Lake in the West Loop. Guests felt like they were on vacation as they walked through a completely transformed venue featuring designers from island paradises—the Bahamas, Jamaica, Madagascar and Bali who showed off their fashionable creations. Designers including Eric Raisina, Harl Taylor, Nadya, K-Bobby and Raang Designs had models strutting their magnificent tropical creations down the runway. In Nassau, November 11th-13th 2010, the original show will be giving a portion of their proceeds to benefit victims of the tragedy that transpired in Haiti in a special selection called “Fashion Cares for Haiti.” This is one extravaganza fashion lovers won’t want to miss. Sofitel Chicago Water Tower Fashion Photography Exhibit
On June 29th, Sofitel properties worldwide and the Parisian Polka Galerie celebrated the arrival of the “Fashion Stills,” a photo exhibit that portrayed never before seen photographs, depicting rare moments in high fashion. Onlookers gathered in the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower to celebrate the release of the photos. Notable guests were in the building, as well as, Alain Genestar Polka Galerie’s CEO, Water Tower’s General Manager Nicolas Pesty and Factor Model Management’s Briget Halanskii. With the help of world famous photographers, Derek Hudson, Cathleen Naundorf, Jean-Marie Périer and Gérard Uféras, viewers got a chance to embrace the most delicate moments behind-the-scenes of haute couture Dior, Chanel, and Yves St. Laurent. -Brittany S. Anastasia Chatzka Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion Show
The one-year anniversary of Anastasia Chatzka’s Chicago boutique and clothing line was celebrated with a presentation of her Spring/Summer 2010 collection at the Museum of Surgical Science on June 11th. Upon arriving at the event, guests were greeted by two statue-like models posing outside of the entrance in some of Chatzka’s whimsical pieces. The ambiance was just as sweet as the sparkling pink lemonade being served. Tables were set up with purple candies and Asian hand fans. The fairy-like collection had a Betsy Johnson takes Alice in Wonderland appeal with lace, floral and pastels. A very interesting and creative show was presented as the models strutted through three separate rooms in the museum where guests were seated. Video Games: Not Just Child’s Play Most people think of video games as a pastime. However, there are a select few who aren’t only passionate about playing the game, they’re just as devoted to the art of creating the kinds of games that the rest of us play for months, even years on end. When the game world was in its infancy Pong, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong ruled the video game world. Today, the games are much more sophisticated, lifelike and complex and the people who design them have specialized skills that make the games you play a reality. While plenty of students major in English or Biology, there is an imaginative group that goes off to college to study game design. “Our students are astute observers of life who want to create worlds and characters of their own,” says Jason Hopkins, academic director for Game Art & Design at The Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago. He adds, “They want to see their imagination come to life.” Hopkins says the kind of specialized computer, design and art skills it takes to design games in today’s world takes more than just imagination, it requires the kind of knowledge you acquire in a classroom. “Our faculty are not only practicing artists themselves, but have ties to the industry and are ready to teach those tips and tricks to the next generation of designers.” So the next time you get on the X Box or Wii, consider the imaginations that created the worlds you get to escape to. Rock and Roar The Women’s Board of the Lincoln Park Zoo put on a wildly spectacular Zoo Ball with an appropriate theme of Rock and Roar. The evening was a ménagerie of gorgeous surroundings as the décor was animal-inspired along with some partygoer’s frocks. At this chic nightclub setting there were performances by School of Rock, DJ Beep Media and Dr. Bombay. Most importantly, the Zoo Ball raised $820,000 thanks to the stunning crowd of supporters for the Lincoln Park Zoo. This rocking wild benefit, co-chaired by Peggy White and Kim Thesis, sold out and attracted Chicago’s social and civic leaders. The Zoo Ball’s raffle prizes were definitely fit for a rock star. Among the prizes were gorgeous diamond earrings by Bochic, valued at $15,500, won by Scott MacGregor; a Samsung 55-inch 3-D LED TV and 3-D Blu-Ray Player with 3-D glasses, valued at $4,300 courtesy of Sears Holdings Corporation, won by Harold Rider; and a $3,500 shopping spree at Neiman Marcus, won by Brett Rosenmayer.
