That’s a strong statement and though Darwin’s quote was originally referring to evolution, it’s not only dinosaurs that can go extinct. Businesses that fail to adapt and change also fail to survive. This is true not only of our industry but also of other industries, as well as of many aspects of life. It’s evident by the number of award winners in our recent virtual recognition ceremony that many of our EXIT associates have learned the importance of adapting in this changing environment. Our superstars have quickly mastered how to balance health protocols and technology to market and sell properties. Some of our agents have experienced their best year ever. I’ve also seen many examples of ingenuity in maintaining personal connections at a time where people are craving human interaction more than ever before. I’ve never felt so proud to be part of the EXIT family. The REALTORS® who’ll succeed are those who are flexible in their thinking, embrace technology and ensure that they’re educated about their local market, so they become a trusted advisor to their client base. Never has there been a time where the public needs a trusted advisor more than today. The REALTORS® who will thrive will combine that knowledge with technology, while focusing on building relationships in order to build a business that’s sustainable into the future. And while we must embrace technology, we’re all experiencing a lack of human connection right now that has an unseen but profound effect on us all, so we must balance tech with the human element. We must adapt and find a safe way to connect with each other. It’s time for all of us to reinvent ourselves, just as Steve Morris reinvented the real estate model when he launched this great company 24 years ago with a drive and focus that fanned his incredible idea into flame. Let us remember to be thankful for every moment and every smile we give and receive. Let us live with an attitude of gratitude, tolerance, and kindness. Let us never forget the importance of the human connection in everything we do.

Teamwork = Dream Work WITH STACY STROBL & KENNY LYNN, REGIONAL OWNERS - EXIT SOUTHEAST This year could have, and did stop so many businesses in their tracks, but after breaking EXIT Realty’s all-time record for franchises sold last year, Regional Owners, Kenny Lynn and Stacy Strobl refused to give up in 2020. “If you aren’t passionate about what you do, a world of negativity could stop you, but nothing is going to get better unless you make it better,” Strobl reminds. Since launching their EXIT Southeast region, this formidable twosome has set their sights on winning Region of the Year each year and has done so for the second consecutive year and fourth time overall. “It has definitely been a year of teamwork equaling dream work,” Lynn proudly says. “This year has taken everyone being on board in order to adapt, adjust, maintain and keep EXIT Southeast growing. It’s an exciting achievement because we do have the best owners, brokers and agents.” “It has forced change in the way in which we operate,” Strobl adds, “because we’re asking people to join us and trust us with this life-changer over Zoom. It feels strange when you aren’t sitting across from someone signing a franchise. You must adjust and learn to communicate differently. Although it’s been hard not being able to see and hug people, and they’ve greatly missed both regional and corporate annual events, they are keeping in touch with their EXIT regional family and forging ahead with continued, consistent growth. “Our leaders’ leaders are believing in the system and it’s phenomenal to see the number of new agents in EXIT Southeast,” Lynn explains. “Seeing people grow, changing people’s lives and watching people play out their vision of growing their office and becoming the leader they envisioned is very motivating. Watching our EXIT owners, brokers and agents rise to the occasion in the midst of these unprecedented times has been the most exciting and rewarding part of this year.”

Always Improving WITH MARC AUSTIN HIGHFILL, FRANCHISEE - EXIT FIRST REALTY What happens when your business acumen and annual goals align with EXIT Realty’s top real estate honor? You get Marc Austin Highfill, or EXIT’s 2020 Tri-Real-A-Thon Award winner. Awarded to an associate within the EXIT nation who shows outstanding achievement in sales production, listings taken and helping to grow the company, EXIT’s Tri-Real-A-Thon Award is the pinnacle of individual awards achievement within the company. “Winning this award wasn’t really a goal I had, it just so happens to fall in line with my personal, team and company goals,” he admits. “It’s a team effort and I couldn’t have done it without everyone else’s contributions.” Such contributions awarded his Marc Austin Highfill Team the achievement of ranking fifth in North America, in addition to Highfill’s other individual wins for Top Gross Commission Income in North America, induction into the Million Dollar Circle for closing more than $1 million in gross commission, and the Titanium Production Award for closing 120+ transaction sides in EXIT’s award year. “Marc has evolved into a proven leader in his market not only running a highly successful office, but also one of the top teams in North America. He continues to rank in the top of our company each year, outperforming the past year. His leadership by example inspires his agents to learn that hard work and determination always pays off with the right positive mental attitude,” explains Craig Witt, President of the U.S. Division of EXIT Realty Corp. International, and there was no other year that would test Highfill and his team more than 2020. Attaining these achievements came with some harsh reminders and realizations, but also reinforced Highfill’s belief in trying to get 1% better every day no matter what. “Everyone had different tolerance for what was going on - everyone dealt with things a different way. It was up to me as a leader to manage expectations for my team, my agents, and our clients and to find out how to adapt to everyone’s changing needs,” he explains. “This year has reminded us that we need to be creative problem solvers and not always do business the same way every day. Our team at EXIT First Realty rallied together to adapt and deal with the challenges this year has brought. I’m grateful for how our company and team united through adversity to come out on top and stronger than ever.”

A New Top Office in Town WITH PARISE CORMIER, FRANCHISEE - EXIT REALTY ASSOCIATES, NB They say everyone picks their moment, and 2020 not only marked a milestone 20th anniversary for Franchisee, Parise Cormier, and her office, but it was also arguably their time to shine. For 12 consecutive years, Parise and her team have cheered on fellow New Brunswick office, EXIT Realty Advantage, as they’ve won EXIT’s Largest Grossing Single Office in North America award at Convention, and though the awards ceremony went virtual this year, Parise just knew it was going to be her year. “I’m very proud of each and every one on our ever-growing team,” she said. “My Manager, André Malenfant, and our support staff team have gone above and beyond. I know Philip and Dave are happy for us too because we’ve worked so hard, and they’ve often said to me over the years, ‘If ever someone is to beat us, we hope it’s you.’”

Like many businesses early this year, Parise and her team faced much uncertainty saying, “We were lucky to live where we did,” of the multi-province bubble the Canadian Government put in place, allowing the maritime provinces of PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick as well as Newfoundland and Labrador to travel across one another’s borders. Taking full advantage of EXIT’s stimulus package of coaching and training, and by employing web conferencing strategies, Parise quickly adjusted her one word of Focus in 2020 to Persevere, and then again to Adapt. “Parise and her team have been vigilant with their intent to get to the top, attracting and developing some of the finest real estate professionals in their community,” Joyce Paron, President of the Canadian Division of EXIT Realty said proudly. “They’re a service- and value-driven brokerage led with heart and humility.”

Doing Business By Design WITH FRANCHISEES, SONNY DOWNEY & RAY RIVERA - EXIT REAL ESTATE GALLERY, FL For the ninth consecutive year Franchisees, Sonny Downey and Ray Rivera have shown that putting your agents first in brokerage ownership makes all the difference. As the leaders of a seven-location, EXIT Real Estate Gallery operation in Florida, they had a lot on the line during one of the most challenging times the world has seen, but that didn’t stop them from attaining EXIT’s #1 Highest Grossing Office (Multiple) in North America award yet again. “We wouldn’t say winning this award was a vindication but rather a confirmation,” Downey explained, “A confirmation that when you design and implement a strategy, and stay the course, that you’ll always end up at the right destination. It’s about doing business by design rather than default.” “In the midst of a crisis the only thing you can control as a business owner is you,” Rivera also reminded, “so firm up your plan and execute.” This ownership duo was challenged, like many, to maintain business during a complete shutdown. With the livelihood and health of their nearly 500-member team on the line, their need to pivot and maximize on virtual business was clear. Not only did this shift help trim some costs and create new normals for their agents and staff, but they’ve also been able to expand their engagement. “We’re processing payments via Automated Clearing House Network, using EXIT’s Mobile Business Card™, digital buyer and seller presentations, as well as Facebook ads through the EXIT Ad Center,” Downey shared. “All these digital tools available through EXIT’s Resource Center made it seamlessly easy for our agents to take business online from offline, which is why most never skipped a beat.” Downey and Rivera are extremely proud of their staff’s flexibility in continuing to make business happen for their agents, buyers and sellers, as well as their commitment to providing the best service, and EXIT’s U.S. Divisional President, Craig Witt agrees. “These two businessmen have established the necessary systems and leadership that fosters the growth and success of each agent who works with them. Their passion is to see others succeed and their reputation is built on honesty, integrity, and the respect of others,” Witt said. “Sonny and Ray are shining examples of how to build powerhouse brokerages and multiply.”
