BIOGRAPHY Influences «My music creates bridges, brings together and confronts», explains the young man. Between him and his audience, of course. But even more between musical styles. While kaneka reigns in New Caledonia, Boagan explores and researches music to create bridges between this typically New-Caledonian rythm and other musics: reggae, rock, soul ...

His music-loving parents guide Boagan to music, and he started playing guitar and singing in a religious context. In the early 2000s, he has his first encounters with stage performance in New Caledonia, thanks to his band, ACJP. This was also the first opportunity for him to put his music into perspective, with other sounds that will deeply influence his writing. The ACJP years will engrave soul sounds in his ears. After this, he sang for the band
Inspired by traditional Kanak rhythms and the strong identity of northern New Caledonia, Boagan is a young artist, a singer-songwriter on the rise. After winning in the «export» category at the Flèches de la Musique (New Caledonia’s music awards) in 2014, Boagan will play in the Pacific region and in metropolitan France in 2015. 2011 : Francofolies de la Rochelle, France 2013 : K-muzik in Paris. Tour in Montpellier, Lyons and Marseilles, France 2014 : Winner in the «export» category at New Caledonia’s Flèches de la Musique 2015: Tour in New Zealand and France (ongoing)
KDF (2008-2009) and then for Fancy Junior and Jazz K, the Koné Music Acedemy band, which will have him explore two new paths: reggae-dub and rock, which can both be heard in his solo works. In the late 2000s, Boagan had become an artist inspired by a wide range of musical colours, drawing ideas from Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, U2, Bob Marley, Bwanjep or Katchafire, who all play key roles in his compositions. Boagan is a singer with meaningful lyrics who constantly works his voice. He writes in French, Paîci (a Kanak language from Koné), and sometimes in English. His lyrics describe mainly his thoughts and hopes on culture, nature and the upheavals experienced by the Kanak world in the 21st century.
TOURS In 2011, he was suddenly put under the spotlight after winning the «Nine weeks and a day» contest, which allowed him to perform at the famous Francofolies festival in La Rochelle, in front of more than 10,000 people. His ease on stage is the result of years of practice on Caledonian stages, and of his desire to be an ambassador for his archipelago in France. In 2013, Boagan takes part in a France tour and plays in Paris, Montpelier, Lyons and Marseilles with other Caledonian artists who take part in K-muzik. This music set was created to represent
New Caledonia during the Kanak exhibition at Paris’ famous Quai Branly Museum. In July 2014, after several years of preparation, Boagan released his first album Papillon Bleu (blue butterfly, in French), displaying a kaneka music that is both endemic and universal. Boagan’s style and his sound are unique, bringing together contemporary and traditional sounds, offering rock and soul music where the rhythm is given by the impact of bamboos.
2014 MAISON DE LA NOUVELLECALÉDONIE EXPORT AWARD In 2014, Boagan enroled for the Maison de la Nouvelle-Calédonie Export Award in New Caledonia’s «Flèches de la Musique». The winner gets to go on tour in the Pacific and in France and has a triumph in New Caledonia. The young man took it all and charmed an international jury who came from metropolitan France, New Zealand and Australia. Members of the jury - professionals from the medias, culture and arts sectors - were convinced by the singer’s stage presence and the modernity of his composition. They elected him ambassador of Caledonian music for 2015.

Parlez-nous de votre projet de sortie d’un EP cette annÊe‌
Il s’agit d’un maxi de cinq ou VL[ WLWUHV HQYLURQ &‍ۑ‏HVW 3KLOLSSH Buston qui va s’occuper du mixage dans son studio, Open Tuning. Le mastering sera, lui, rĂŠalisĂŠ en Allemagne. On espère pouvoir sortir O‍(ۑ‏3 G‍ۑ‏LFL ŕ¨Q DYULO Propos recueillis par AmĂŠlie Rigollet
