Hello everyone and welcome along to the Domain. Again. The third of five consecutive WaiBOP Premiership home games on Saturday sees the visit of Claudelands Rovers, while on Sunday we welcome Waikato Unicol in Waikato Ladies Division 1. Both games, obviously, are must win matches for us, but our visitors will also be thinking the same so we should be in for a couple of tasty encounters. As this is our third programme in three weeks, I’m struggling a bit with what I’m going to write about. I’ll give it a good go, though... With Euro 2020 a week in, there’s plenty of (mostly) decent football to watch. All the usual suspects have started well, apart from the Germans, so it’s set up to be an exciting month or so. The early stand-out team for me is Italy, but I’m not going to get too excited about them until they play a decent team. France and Belgium look good too (no massive insight there). As for Turkey. Ouch. Sorry Hayri. We’re well into the junior football season. For my sins I’ve ended up coaching two U12 teams (one in Matamata and one, er, not in Matamata) and am also closely involved with the Swifts Mini-Kickers programme (kids aged 4 to 7 years). It makes for busy Saturdays and also Sunday mornings but is also so much fun. Our club’s junior playing numbers are strong, with the Mini-Kickers numbers rebounding extremely well after a Covid-hit 2020 season. We’ve got some good little players floating around too, so if you have a free Saturday morning then a wander up to Pohlen Park is definitely worth your while. Nearly made it... Only a couple of lines to go... Oh yeah, the Premier league draw has just come out so keep an eye out for the next Swifts Fantasy League. Hopefully everyone enjoys this weekend’s games.
