Welcome to Centre Region Parks & Recreation

W

e hope many of you enjoyed receiving the Summer 2021 Active Guide in your mailbox! We hope to continue this practice with the support of our elected officials as we saw over 500 new households enroll in a parks and recreation program or event within the first week the summer guide was mailed! If you're reading this, then you may have received the fall guide in the mail or you're reading this online. 2021 turned out to be a very busy year for our Agency, and we still have a few months to go! As restrictions were lifted by the Governor, we were able to expand our pavilion and pool capacity and reduce masking protocols within our programs. Local residents continued to use the parks at unprecedented volumes and we're so happy to see everyone using every inch of the parks! As always, our programming team is bringing you some of our traditional fall programs along with some new ones for you to try! If any of you are intersted in getting involved with us by teaching a craft, providing a fitness class, coaching a sport, never hesitate to contact us! Also, watch for the return of the BioBlitz--scheduled for September 2021! See page 18 for more details and a link to register to be Citizen Scientists! We look forward to seeing you this fall in a program, at an event, or walking/running on the trails! Be sure to check out our Find Your Park Map so that you can explore all of the parks in our community--over 50 municipal and regional parks and facilities! Pamela J. Salokangas, CPRP, CPSI, Director

ADULT INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES

A Walk with Grief is not an exercise program but instead a time of coming together with others who are grieving a loss and…walking. Walking to move grief from the inside to the outside. You can speak and share with others, or you can move about in silence. The important thing is to show up. FLIGHTS & FLOWS

Namaste and Rosé! Join Yoga instructor, Elle Morgan, at University Wine Co. for a one-hour vinyasa flow yoga class that will invigorate the body and the mind. The class will take place outdoors right next to the vineyard. Immediately following the class, participants will head into the winery to purchase, at a discount, wines by the flight or glass. An extensive list of dry to sweet award-winning wines is available: red, white, rosé, and sparkling. No experience is necessary and all you need to do is bring a yoga mat and a bottle of water. Register with a friend and enjoy yoga and wine together! (Due to PA law, wine must be sold separately.) All dates are rain or shine. In the event of rain or cold weather, the class will be held indoors within eyesight of the vineyards. (COVID-19 Protocols follow physical distancing and masking until the class starts and upon entering the winery.) DATE Wednesday, September 15

How You Can Help Ballfield Banner Sponsorships!

Centre Region Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer the opportunity for you to show your support for active recreation by purchasing a 4' x 6' or 4' x 8' vinyl banner at the John Hess Softball Complex and Oak Hall Regional Park. Promotional banners are displayed on the outfield fences for the duration of the 2022 Season (Apr.-Oct.) and are visible to attendees at over 1,000 softball games, over 19 tournaments, and other recreation programs scheduled at the complexes throughout the year. Contact the Agency at 814-231-3071 or crpr@crcog.net.

The mission of the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Authority is to serve Centre Region residents of all ages throughout the year with a variety of recreation opportunities and access to facilities to enrich their lives through participation in programs, facility use, provision of leadership resources and technical assistance, and serving the participating municipalities' residents and groups. The Authority membership includes five municipalities--the Borough of State College and the Townships of College, Ferguson, Harris, and Patton, and the State College Area School District. Each municipality appoints one volunteer representative to serve a five-year term, plus one representative from the State College Area School District who is appointed by State College Borough Council. In October 2011, the five participating municipalities re-authorized the future of the Authority for January 2012 through December 2061. Many members of the Authority also participate in their municipality's Parks and Recreation Committee; this dual service provides a great conduit between the Authority/Agency and the municipality like Capital Improvement Projects, timelines of various park improvements, recommended programming for the community, policies and procedures, and more. The Authority is a registered 501c3 non-profit and registered as a PA Bureau of Charitable Giving organization. More info. about the Authority to include the members' and their terms, the history of the Agency (55 years in 2021) and the Authority (since 1974), as well as By-Laws and links to meeting agendas and minutes, can be found here: http://www.crpr.org/about-crpr-authority The Authority works directly with the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Agency on its Fees & Charges, regional park development, pool operations, nature center operations, and much more!
