COLUMBIA REMODELERS AWARDS The Columbia Remodelers Awards (CRAs) is the only remodeling awards program in the greater Columbia area, and we’ve been awarding quality remodeling for 15 years now. The CRAs are designed to showcase the craftsmanship of BIA Remodelers Council members and help homeowners better understand what can be done when they hire quality remodelers. Five member companies entered 17 projects in 8 different categories this year. All of the entries were outstanding in their own right, and the clients were extremely pleased with the results. We have listed all 17 projects with before-and-after pictures on-line at www.ColumbiaRemodelers.com. Please visit the site to see them. Thank you to all of the members who entered the CRAs this year! We look forward to seeing many more entries next year. (Winners are in bold type.)

It’s a group with a big heart and they like to get out there and help in the community when possible. This year, members of the council worked together to help a family in need by remodeling a bathroom to help a young boy with special needs. In recognition of their work, we presented a special CRA for Community Service to the members of the BIA Remodelers Council. Members involved in the project were Century Glass, Clark’s Pest Control, Creative Tile, Ferguson Enterprises, Great Southern Homes, Mr. Rooter Lexington/Columbia, Rytec Electric, STOCK Building Supply, The Wright Group, and Kehoe Constructors, LLC.

AUGUST BIA MEMBERSHIP MEETING The membership of the BIA of Central SC on Thursday, August 18 met at Seawell’s for a General Membership Meeting. On the agenda for the lunch-time meeting were two very special items. Thanks to our meeting sponsors for their continued support this year. Meeting Sponsors:

First up, the new University of South Carolina Head Football Coach, Will Muschamp, stopped by to tell us about himself and his plans for the Gamecock football team. It happened to be the first day of classes at the university, and the coach decided to give the team a day off to attend classes. Muschamp spoke of this time at other football programs and how he is bringing his experience to South Carolina. He was optimistic about this season, but is certainly looking forward for the program. Members in attendance got to ask questions, and the coach answered them all.

Well, here the “what I did this summer” report from the Remodelers Council. Thanks to all of the members who participated and sponsors who make it possible. In May of 2016, we took to the road and judged the 15th annual Columbia Remodelers Awards (CRAs). The winners were announced at the August BIA Meeting. HIGH PERFORMANCE BUILDING COUNCIL Now that summer is over, we can take a moment to look back at what our members have been up to. Looks like we had a lot of fun and may have even learned a few things along the way.

High Performance Building Council

We met at Agape Conference Center back in May for a membership meeting. Our sponsor and speaker was Carrier Enterprise. They told us about their new automated HVAC system and thermostats and gave us some real-world examples.

In June Epic Homes, LLC sponsored our first Main Street Happy History Walking Tour with the Historic Columbia Foundation (HCF). We started at the Capitol Building and walked four blocks North up Main Street learning about the architecture and history of Columbia. Thanks to the HCF for a great experience and to Epic Homes for sponsoring the outing.

In July a small group of members traveled to Greenville, SC to visit a net-zero ready neighborhood named TrailSide. The homes, by Addison Construction, are built to an international certification program and incorporate many energy-saving measures plus natural light and aging-in-place features. The model home features solar panels and all of the homes feature exterior insulation board for uninterrupted heat-loss protection. Special thanks to DOW Building Solutions for sponsoring this On-site Experience.

CHiP Home Program

The Certified High Performance (CHiP) Home Program has certified over 2400 new homes in the greater Columbia area. Recently certified homes were built by Epic Homes, LLC, Essex Homes, SE, Great Southern Homes and Sovereign Homes. The CHiP Home Program is designed to be used by any builder, large or small and certification fees are between $50 and $25 per home (based on volume). See www. CHiPHomeProgram.com or contact Bin Wilcenski for more information on how to build certified High Performance homes.
