Join us for the groundbreaking for two Knight Neighborhood Challenge grants that will activate Coleman Hill park.

Macon, GA – Join the Community Foundation of Central Georgia and Macon‐Bibb County for a ground breaking on Tuesday, June 17th at 10:30 am at Coleman Hill Park. Two projects, funded through the Knight Neighborhood Challenge program of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia, will begin construction on Tuesday, June 17th. Coleman Hill Natural Playground and Slide By: InTown Macon Neighborhood Association In coordination with the master plan for Coleman Hill Park, there will be placement of an in‐ ground slide and several large boulders so serve as a natural playground. These elements will increase opportunities for physical activity in the park and bring something interesting and unusual to the area. Circles in the Park: A Sculptural Installation at Coleman Hill By: Kathy Wright An installation of a new artistic sculpture near the natural playground and in‐ground slide will further enhance the experience for guests at Coleman Hill park. Monumental in scale, yet subtle in design, the planned sculpture will be an interactive component of play as well as a contemporary art element within the landscape. Inspired by Shel Silverstein's “The Missing Piece”, these whimsical circular forms are intended to spark imaginations, inviting viewers to race up and down the hill.

Together, these two new elements for Coleman Hill will spark imagination, encourage creative play, and activate the steep side of the park. About Knight Neighborhood Challenge The Knight Neighborhood Challenge is a broad‐based, competitive grant program that funds the best ideas – small and large – that give College Hill a sense of place, spruce up its parks and public spaces or enhance the arts and entertainment scene. The effort also aims to get residents involved in College Hill through an array of civic and cultural projects. Successful projects will respond to community needs and opportunities within the five areas identified in the College Hill Alliance Master Plan. They will be programmatic in nature, will have a well‐developed plan for sustainability, will involve teamwork, will be citizen‐led and will be inclusive. They may not be political or discriminatory. Guidelines and online applications are available at www.cfcga.org/knc and the next deadline is June 30, 2014.
