Prepare for Hurricane Season

With the start of the Atlantic hurricane season just around the corner on June 1, Miami Beach residents should make plans now on where they’ll go if they have to evacuate the city.

Miami Beach Deputy Emergency Manager Shari Holbert Lipner said it’s important to pick an inland location — perhaps with family or friends — but they will also need to know how they’ll get there, and what supplies they’ll need to bring. Hurricane season runs through Nov. 30.

Keep an Eye Out for Sea Turtles

Miami Beach becomes a nesting habitat for endangered sea turtles from April 1 to Oct. 31. Help us protect sea turtles and their little ones by minimizing the impacts of artificial lighting known to disorient our marine friends.

If you live on a beachfront property, use sea turtle friendly lighting, turn off lights visible from the beach and close your blinds/curtains. Remember, it’s against the law to harm or harass sea turtles, their nests or hatchlings. For more information visit www.mbrisingabove.com/seaturtles.
