ha Kevin Aondoakaa Uvah — In Makurdi, Nigeria, West Africa, Hip-Hop wasn’t even known so he grew up listening to riddim/reggae and R&B music artist such as Shirley Murdock, Gladys Knight, Teddy Pendergrass, Al Green and Marvin Gaye. Moving from Nigeria to Champaign,Illinois, he experenced a quiet childhood and was kept away from the bad influences of his rough American neighborhood by his immigrant parents. Sha like most kids loved music, particularly the growing genre of music known as Hip-Hop or rap music but never had aspired to get into it. Year’s later, another move, this time to Louisiana, is where he was exposed to new and different styles of music. In Louisiana he was still being impacted by rap music, he became a big fan of the legendary hip hop group, Bones, Thugs-N-Harmony; so much so, that he began to harmonize to some of their songs. After graduating from high school, Sha attended the University of West Florida. The new college student found himself struggling with an identity crisis; even his personal struggle didn’t damper his love for the music. With greater focus, he began to understand the hip hop genre, especially discerning lyrical skills and creative word-play, instead

of only listening to the tracks. Also, he began to practice both harmony and crafted his lyrical style. In 1991, Sha succumbed to the urge of Hip Hop, he decided it was the music for him. His growth and music was enhanced by working with Imani of Hattisburg, Mississippi. The collaboration sharpened his lyrical skills and was combined with a study of some of the greats, mainly the late Tupac Shakur. Sadly in 2001, Imani was murder by gun violence but two-years later, during his incarcenration she spoken to him in a dream and it became the inspiration for his debut recording “Evolution.” Since being released, Sha has continued making music and has joined his cousin Shadow P to build 2Entertainment .

s a very unique artist. He has thunderous ear-catching voice that produces very sharp punchlines and very witty wordplay. Even though his style is mainly street/gangsta rab based, he has the ability to adapt to any genre or style of music. Known as the “Punchline King” his wordplay ability can be compared to artists such as Lil Wayne, Cassidy, & Fabolous. His braggadocious and confident swagger leads to a mic presence that can be compared to current rap moguls like Ludacris, Rick Ross, MJG, Tityboi, & Yo Gotti. Theirs a twist to this artist -he has “literally been through and has survived the harshness of poverty and street crimes. He has actually lived the life he speaks of, the authenticity of his music is evident as party songs and the occasional “Im Ballin” track turns to a heartfelt song about his experience living such an unforgiving life. The

depthness of his music can also be compared to the likes of rappers like Scarface, Beanie Siegal & the late Tupac & Nortorious B.I.G. There is another side of Pu$ha’s music demolishing madness. Coming from a home where his mother frequently working to support the needs of her two children, He gained admiration and respect for the independent-hardworking modern day woman. Sex is usually the topic of most of the songs he devoted to these women but his charm and smoothness makes it acceptable and listen worthy. Although overweight, he tends to win crowds that the usual “pretty boy” rapper aquires. “Some” say his babyface and boyish yet gangsta charm is irresitible. Others say he’s “aggrogant” and overly pompous although, no matter what personal opinion you have of this artist it is undeniable that he is incredriblt talented and he delivers on every track he involved in. He’s defintely an artist to watch. Mr. Airplane is going places!

RAYNE: How is the experience of being a DJ in Capetown, South Africa? R!CkLo: I think being a DJ in South Africa is one of the easiest and best wasys of making mone in the industry. At the same time the biggest problem Hip Hop in Cape Town is facing, is that our DJ’s don;t play enough of our music. Not even in the clubs, I try with my radio show I can say there is 1 other radio show that plays as much local Hip Hop as me it’s frustrating!

RAYNE: Explain your childhood more to us? R!CkLo: I was confused growing up. We moved around a lot , so I figured out that when I steal money and sweets, I had friends around me all the time. Got involved with gangs and bigger crimes around 13. Smuggling guns & drugs. I was raised speaking English in an area that was predominantly Afrikaans. Afrikaans kids were “tougher” & could “fight”. So I had to be even tougher and fight more than the other kids to fit in. Learned a lot and Regret a lot.
