Dondatta Hoffa

I

s an upcoming rapper that is on the rise fast and with good reason. Born on December 28th 1988. Terrell Williams originally born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the product of the foster system going back and forth from group home to group home in Ohio, he was later adopted at age 3 to a single African American mother. Due to his adoption he is unsure of his nationality but goes by African American descent. Once finalising the adoption papers and name changes from Terell Williams to Terrence Cornish, he moved with his new family to settle in the small town of Bloomfield New Jersey. This is where he would call home for the next 10 years of his life. With only a single mother to nurture him, things were tough for Young Hoffa. He first fell in love with music between the ages of 10-13 years old, a work-friend of his mother agreed to watch him as a favour during the day, while Da Dondatta”s mother worked in NY. While being babysat Hoffa got to meet her older son who at the time had started his own rap group with friends from the neighborhood. The young boy who is known now as Dondattahoffa/ Young Hoffa/Da Dondatta/ Dondott/Hoffa was then pit under her son’s wing. This is where he says he soaked up most of his knowledge today on music from shows studio sessions and all around musical energy his brothers group had brought. Now to the excitement of a Young Hoffa, being there everyday sometimes sleeping over while his mother worked double shifts, he was being showed the ropes without even trying. Endless hours in his god brothers basement watching him do his thing with equipment and members of his group were all Da Dondott needed to see. He instantly gravitated to anything having to do with hip hop and his now god brothers music. For the next 2 years were some of the best childhood memories ever, he naturally created a big brother lil brother bond with his godmothers son. Things got better for worse when Da Dondotta’s mother was offered a better job opportunity in the small state of Rhode Island. Although things were now going to be looking up financially for Hoffa’s family he now had to say goodbye to his new big brother/god brother and friends to move to the ocean state. Dondattahoffa was devastated. He begged his

mother to stay but the reason for him to go was so they could live better. Once moved to he state of Rhode Island at age 15 with no friends or family to mingle, Dondatta decided to open a subject notebook and describe how he felt… his pen never stopped writing. For years after the first entry of pen to pad Da Dondott would go on to write raps which no one would ever hear…yet! In early 2011 after 2 years of unspoken and unheard raps, he decided that his collection of notebooks stacked with fresh material was ready to be heard. Finding a studio about 20 minutes up the road he began to put his trax on wax.. As da saying goes repetition is the father of learning. Dondattahoffa lived by this. With endless tracks being made in that year he finally began to feel comfortable in a veteran’s way. His first track dropped was a 43 seconds freestyle, posted on YouTube while hustlin’ CD’s in Providence, Rhode Island. With it receiving more views then expected and still in contact with his ‘idol’ god brother, he immediately started his rap career that would begin buzzin’ immediately. He began working on his debut mixtape he titled The Trilogy of Jimmie Hoffa. This mixtape is still in production being a 3 disc mixtape, which has never been done by any rapper yet. The first two discs Da Dondatta assures us are completed. The Resurrection and Reincarnation are finished while Hoffa is currently working on obtaining beats from different producers for the last piece The Revenge. While wrapping up his bonus ShitsNotAGame mixtape and shopping a cover for his Worst2First Rags2Riches mixtape (which is mastered) you can hear tracks off it for promotional use only via youtube/dondattahoffa Dondatta is well on his way to the top of hiphop as a phenemenon already cosigned by MMG Rockie Fresh who saluted him on twitter he is also followed by “King of Philly” Gillie da kid, Cassidy, Doug E fresh, love n hiphops Arika Kane, comedian Aries Spears, Drag-on, Dj lazy k Moe rock online and more Hungry, prepared and working incredibly, Dondattahoffa seems like he is ready to make his imprint on hip hop industry and the world… twitter @younghoffa23 instagram @dondattaxm

A

Sylvia Fedrick

s young as 4 years old, Sylvia cherishes memories of innocently singing her nursery rhymes as her father stood by, recording every last note. A singer himself, Larry Fedrick contributed his beautiful voice to a quartet as a child and, later, the church choir. He never actively pursued a career in gospel music, but would go on to influence that of his musically inclined family, especially his young daughter, Sylvia. Often singing to her as a child, the influences of Sylvia’s father would serve as a foundation upon which Sylvia would grow as an artist, taking with her the sweet melodies of such revered musicians as Sam Cook, Nat King Cole, Dakota Staten, Dinah Washington and Billy Eckstine. While growing up in Chicago, Sylvia performed in various school & church stage productions and was honored “Most Talented” of her graduating class from Lindblom Technical High School in Chicago, IL. Post-graduation, Sylvia desired to pursue her music career. During the 1980s, House Music dominated mainstream music. Sylvia contributed as a backup singer for many local groups, including “Rare Form” and “Kajsa” and participating in open mic night at the Cotton Club. While pursuing her next big break, Sylvia became side-tracked by a suitor and was married in 1991. In 1997, Sylvia’s marriage ended in divorce and she was again on the music scene. After much prayer & faith, Sylvia released her Freshman CD “Sistha Under God’s Construction” which gained a sizable amount of recognition since its release in August 2008 and landed her the “2010 Black Essence Award”, along with the nomination for Gospel Music’s Rising Star for the “2012 Chicago Gospel Jubilee Awards”, recipient of the “2014 Music Love Awards” for Female Contemporary Artist Of The Year and nominated for the “2014 Chicago Independent Awards” for Best Gospel Artist Of The Year”. In 2012 Sylvia released her Sophomore CD “Best Of Sylvia Fedrick–Work In Progress”, and is currently working on her next CD release “Faith, Trust, Determined” for the Fall 2014. In addition to Sylvia being an Actress, she is also a Playwright. Sylvia portrayed the role of Principal Johnson in “Searching For Peace”, a stage production written, produced, and directed by Sylvia for high school students. Sylvia also appeared in “Steppin Into Love” by Van Gray, “Strong Man” by LaDell Jones, and “I Gave My Love To You” by Lorinda Foster Brown. Sylvia: It was after 15 years of working with the 2 bands Kasja & Rare Form Rayne: Doing that 6yrs off from music, do you feel your comeback was difficult? Sylvia: Oh yes, most definitely!! I had spent the last 15 years around people that didn’t know the singing Sylvia, so some people didn’t take me serious, they thought that I had woke up one morning and decided to sing & record, also I was in my late 30’s at that time, major labels are seeking very young talent, I was considered “old”, I actually had a few people in the music industry tell me it was too late for me Rayne: Did your freshman cd,tell your story of life, trial and accomplishements? Meet Versace V the Medusa

interveiw by: Essence Rayne

Rayne: Who gave you your street name? Versace: When I was in high school a rapper by the name of crucifix gave me my the name Vicious and it was a common thing often stated after people heard me rap. They would always say damn she vicious and people kept reiterating how vicious i was throughout my life. The Medusa part of my name was giving to me by my very best friend who is also my executiv e.producer Levi. He was on the internet one day looking up the story of Medusa and he said she was a maneater and all the guys feared her in warefare kind of like how I was feared on the battle scene and all of my winnings were against men. Rayne: How is the experience of being a female artist from Chicago? Versace: Being a female rapper from Chicago is hard because its so many male and female who have crazy buzz on youtube and the streets so its a constant battle to shine in Chicago. Female rap is embraced in Chicago, we get a lot of love and support from our peers and the fans and a lot of female rappers collab and work together which isnt common no where else like that. Rayne: Performing at the age 11 with a duo By Choice, How was experience? Versace: Performing at the age of 11 in the rap duo By Choice was a lot of fun I learned discipline throught that experience because our nanager Delrina made us practice everyday even on weekends and being that young performing at the Baltimore arena gracing the stage alongside big names like 702 and 112 was crazy.

Versace: In highschool we put on huge performances once a year and we practiced everyday after school and the show consisted of dance music costume changes and everything we really went all out. Rayne: Do you enjoy battle rap more than just performing a regular show? Versace: Absolutely, dislike battling more than performing my songs because my songs are personal and filled with my life stories battling is totally focused on your opponent. Rayne: Are you still undefeated in Battle Rap? Versace: I’m still the undefeated champ but anybody who wanna try to take me off the throne I’m ready lol. Rayne: How was working with Young Chop? Versace: I never met Young chop face to face but the beat was one of those beats that was different from his nornal sound and most people, did not know what to do with that beat and passed on it but I killed that thang. I love working with fellow Chicagoans. Rayne:Being very successful female artist what advice can you give young female artist? Versace: As for future female rapper as well as existing the best adiveI can give you is no matter what nobody say never give up, keep grinding and working hard and your time will come and stay true to yourself.

Rayne: During high school, How many performing and writing did you do?
