QUEEN GUTTAh DC’s DC’s

QUEEN

Born in Washington, D.C., Queen Guttah was raised in 3 different sections of the city during her early childhood. Her family lived in the S.E. section when she was born but moved shortly after. She spent her adolescent years growing up in the N.E. section of the city in a neighborhood called “Paradise”. She also spent part of those years growing up with family and friends in the N.W. section of the city in a neighborhood called “Columbia Heights Village” due to a broken home situation. She attended Eastern Sr. High School for a short time until dropping out of school at age 15. After a stretch of living her troubled life in the streets, and as a result, becoming a teenage mother, she was determined to turn her life around and become a better role model for her child. She got her GED, attended P.G. Community College in Largo, MD and studied music theory, something she had always been interested in. Listening to music and writing poems and short stories was always a hobby she loved doing from when she was a little girl. When she got punished, she would just write poems and sing songs to pass time. Once she got focused on living right, she put her poetic/writng skills into effect. She began writing rap lyrics and developed her flow and delivery. Some of her biggest influences are Lil Kim, Eminem, Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, and Tupac. However, her style is unique from her personality to her flow. She thrives on originality, and her music is a true A R T I S T [6] Unsigned www.theunsignartist.com

depiction of who she is and what she’s been through. Having lived both a troubled and privileged life (to some degree) thus far, she tells stories through her rhymes of both the good and bad times of her life. Songs such as “If U Could See” and “Duty Calls” are very personal and serve as a form of her testimony. This time, even more focused, she decided to take the independent approach and administer all of her affairs herself. Everything from writing songs to manufacturing her finished product, from social networking to passing out flyers and everything in between, she does it all. She’s used to carrying a heavy load so the titles: manager, songwriter, artist, pr rep, CEO, producer, music editor, webmaster and accountant, (just to name a few of the jobs she handles), doesn’t bother her at all. She’s always been a very hard worker and believes in the phrase “No Grind, No Shine”. With a new view on life, a new vision, and a plan of action, she decided to market her musical talent. Beginning with only a dream and an unofficial manager, (someone who was aspiring to be a music producer) at that time, she headed off to Brooklyn, NY (Bedford-Stuyvesant) to better the chances of her talent being recognized and to complete her project. She performed at open mics at night to hone her craft

her her music music is is aa true true depiction depiction of of who who she she is is while working as a hairstylist during the day. After meeting lots of music industry contacts, the pace began to pick up. She then moved to Flatbush, and was recording in studios all around Brooklyn and in Jamaica, Queens alongside Wayne Marshall, a UK artist who featured her on his single “Bad Boy”. After a couple of years of networking, and frustrated because she hadn’t completed her own project, (just features on other artists projects), she returned home with a new plan of action. Her CD “Duty C.alls” was released in December 2009 and gained her great recognition in just a few months with such songs as “Dinero”, title track “Duty Calls”, and “Throw It”. Her next project, “RICCOCHET” was released winter 2010 followed by a mixtape called “The QUEEN Is Coming” in 2011. In 2012, she released “Immortal Bliss” which caught the attention of a few indie labels around the U.S. and landed her a deal with MC3 Records. Her New EP “Haterz Luv Me”, and a feature on the soon to be released single P R O F I L E

DC’Queen (cont’d) “The Exception” from the Hip Hop 4 the Homeless Project, along with her follow up single “Game Face” will soon put The Queen front and center in the Hip Hop game. Guttah continues to release music that everyone can relate to no matter what their situation may be, and with her versatility and creativeness, she’s sure to be a household name.

Chocolate Butterfli interviews Chocolate Butterfli:The name Queen Guttah? Queen Guttah:I came up with the name because it’s a description of who I am. I was raised in an underprivileged environment where almost everybody was facing the hardship of poverty and did whatever they thought it took to get the “Guttah”.“Queen” and demand to be treated as such because where you come from does not define who you are.

Chocolate Butterfli: Do you regret dropping out of high school? Queen Guttah: No, not at all because I am self-taught. I never let “physically” not being in school stop me from learning. Even though I was in the streets I was still in the books. Chocolate Butterfli: Is college where you found your love for music? Queen Guttah: No. I’ve always been interested in music. I went to college to study music and learn about the music business. Chocolate Butterfli: Do you remember the first short story you wrote?

Queen Guttah: No. I don’t remember what it was about. I wish I did. It would be nice to see where my head was back then. Chocolate Butterfli: Do you go back to your old rap lyrics you had as a child and perform them? Queen Guttah: No. Chocolate Butterfli: Some of your lyrical influences are known for their raw lyrics, would you say your lyrics are as raw? Queen Guttah: Yes, because my lyrics for the most part are all heartfelt. When I rap I’m giving you a piece of QUEEN GUTTAH and some of my experience…nothing dressed up, not commercialized, just me. Chocolate Butterfli: The hit “Duty Calls”, can you

elaborate on the story? Queen Guttah: Duty Calls was my introduction to the game on a mixtape. I was letting you know who I am, what I’m about, and that I felt it was my time to get in and do this. It was my “duty” lol. Chocolate Butterfli: How was the experience work-

ing with UK artist Wayne Marshall? Working with Wayne was a great experience for me. I learned a lot from him. He actually took me under his wing and showed me the ins and outs of the business. Queen Guttah: He is a beautiful person. Shout out to Wayne! Chocolate Butterfli: You have what major plans for

2013?

Queen Guttah: In 2013 you can expect more

good music. Right now I’m promoting my “Haterz Luv Me EP” which is available at all my LIVE shows. I’m actually on a 10-city tour now of the US, and the cities of Berlin, Germany and Caans, France. The “HipHop 4 the Homeless Tour” is for us to raise money to feed 1 million homeless people. So look for me soon, I’m coming to a city near you. You can find my tour schedule on my website www.queenguttah.com and more pertinent information about the tour at www.hiphop4thehomeless.wordpress.com and follow me on Twitter @Queen_Guttah. Dedication to Mothers This month is really special to my staff and I , The movement of women in the music industry and other professions are growing rapidly everyday. March is Women’s Month and we want to give honor to those women that are out there grinding hard and teaching the young generation that it takes education and focus to succeed in life. Also to the mothers that are guardian angels. We will like to give Thanks to the mothrs ,sisters, aunts grandmothrs and aunts that have been in every artist corner and withstood those sleepless nights of hearing their young artist in the room playing that beat over and over or heraring them go over that same lyrical verse over and over, even though they wanted them to just go to bed they still encourage that dream that was inside that young artist heart. Thank You for being that rock and whisper of encouragement in their ear.

Thank You Guardian Angels, May You Rest In Peace Renee A. Wade( editors mother) Theresa A. Booker( v.p mother) LaShonda N. Robinson( editor cousin)

1st Lady Juicy Stone Speaks Chocolate Butterfli: How does it feel to be the first lady of the new old school? Juicy Stone: FEELS WONDERFUL! But I’m still a work in progress. Chocolate Butterfli: How long did you have to work on the hit track”Stay Out My Phone”? Juicy Stone: It didn’t take long, approx 2 days. I’ve experienced all the lyrics in that song in my real life so it was easy Chocolate Butterfli: Do Bobbystone push you hard to strive to your best potential? Juicy Stone: YES HE DOES! He’s a perfectionist so he wants us both to excel. He pushes me as hard as he pushes himself and I admire him for that. Chocolate Butterfli: How was your first studio experience? Juicy Stone: I loveeee the studio! I didn’t wanna leave Lol.. It’s a chance to express yourself and I have fun doing it. I feel like goin right now!

Chocolate Butterfli: Your female Mc influences are? Juicy Stone:: Just to name a few Lauryn Hill, Left Eye (RIP), Queen Latifah, Remy Ma... Chocolate Butterfli: Do you feel that the female mcs that are out there now are more commercial then lyrical? Juicy Stone:: Yes! But it’s not their fault. The music industry is commercialized. So as a artist they are forced to deliver profitable art rather than lyrical art. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with making that money cuz I like it alot too! But in my opinion it’s more important to produce music with a heartfelt meaning. Chocolate Butterfli: Whats your advice to the young female mcs that are trying to make it? Juicy Stone:: Don’t give up your dreams, work hard and love what your doing. Don’t let anyone discourage you. Chocolarte Butterfli: Whats the upcoming events for you? Juicy Stone: Working on my 1st album, hosting the new old school events and push that hip hop culture the best way I know how.

Chocolate Butterfli: Growing up with 5 brothers did that make you have that street smarts early? Juicy Stone: Yes, my brothers are my mentors. They made me very aware of “male wolves in sheeps clothing” early! Being around 5 different personalities with 5 different perspectives definitely influenced who I am today. Chocolate Butterfli: That first performance on stage? Juicy Stone: I was nervous, yet ecstatic! I love being on stage. The stage gives me the platform to share my story. I stay outta ya phone, you stay outta mine!

TylerNoel

Modern Day Songbird

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Tyler Noel began singing at the tender age of five in the church choir. It was there at church that her passion and love for music would begin to grow. At the age of 12, Noel began her professional music career when she joined the girl group, Solo Tre. The group was signed to acclaimed producer Derek Baker, also known as Bigg D, who is known for producing Jamie Foxx’s hit, Unpredictable. After singing with Solo Tre for two years, Noel then joined the girl group Synphony, which was created by songwriter and producer Troy Bell. Within a couple years, the five piece group, Synphony had became a trio and by the time Noel was 18, the thought of being a solo artist was burning in her mind. Having been a lead singer most of her life and with years of life experience, Noel knew that being a solo artist would be the best move for her career. With plans to attend college, fate had different plans

for her when she suffered a severe partially paralyzing stroke, which left her barely able to speak at the age of 18. For a while Noel began to doubt that she would be able to go to school, but the fighter within gave her strength to overcome a speech impediment caused by the stroke. Her determination, love for music, and support from her father, who she credits as her best friend, allowed her to prevail against the odds and continue her musical journey at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida where she studied music with a concentration in vocal performance. With academic training, street credibility and pure performance. With academic training , street crediability, and pure talent. Her infectious charisma cannot be combined into one box. Noel is inspired by the memory of her father, who passed 2007, and her life experiences in the streets of Florida.

support from her father, who she credits as her best friend, allowed her to prevail against the odds

...

You can hear her story and passion in her music. It’s raw, it’s real, it’s uncensored, and it is truly powerful. To know Tyler Noel, is to know her music. It is there that she gives you light into her world. “I write and sing about my life and that’s why my songs are instantly relatable,” says Tyler Noel whose vocal idol is gospel icon Karen Clark Sheard. She also adores all genres of music ranging from Mozart and Bach, to Gwen Stefani and Sarah Mclachlan, to Donny Hathaway and Brandy. Sultry, sexy, and unadulterated R&B singer, Tyler Noel is giving you something real to listen to. The unsigned artist gearing up to sign with a major label has analbum in the works and a new smash single “I Can Do Better” featuring a hypersexual duet with R&B sensation Pleasure P formerly of Pretty Ricky. The song also features the production artistry of Lil Ronnie (Brittany Spears, Bow Wow, & R. Kelly) Tyler’s story is bursting with up’s and downs, achievements as well as disappointments. “Singingis a source of healing for me. If it’s not real, how can I expect other people to believe it?” One thing remains constant to all who know and love her as family, friend, or fan: her sincerity.

Chocolate Butterfli interviews

TylerNoel CB When did you fall in love with music? TN I feel in love with music when I joined the

choir it allowed me to reach my full potential and feel like I was really being me. Singing makes me feel the closest to what I think I was put on this Earth for. When I am singing, I just feel whole and I am able to release all my problems, my pressures, and even express my joys and loves. I have no idea where I would be with out music in my life.

CB

How was your experience with the girl group Solo Tre?

TN

It was a good experience for someone like me to have at such a young age. It taught me a lot about the business of music. Also, in a lot of ways it taught me what I did not want from the music industry also.

CB

Working with an acclaim producer so young was that experience tough?

TN

You know what, it was tough. There was a huge amount of pressure put on me at this young age to perform and deliver. It made me grow up quickly [18] Unsigned www.theunsignartist.com

and it probably exposed me to too much at a young age, more than any young girl should have to witness or experience. I was no longer a sheltered child once I entered this business of music. This business can really make you are break you if you allow it.

CB

Singing in the group Symphony was the experience the same as Solo Tre?

TN

The experience was different then the previous group, I was now in a group with 5 members instead of three..And if you know anything about girls, it can go sour really quick and in a hurry. We made great music but we were really bad bandmates. I finally understood then why groups do not last in this industry..Its tough to please so many people and still leave room to please yourself.

CB

Through the tragedy you survive was there a song you had in your heart?

TN

For those that don’t know it, I survived a stroke at a young age. I was 18 years old at the time and it was tough because I was just really beginning

Music isn’t one thing, its a collection of memories

to chase my dreams. The stroke happened and I thought my dreams were over but God is good and with Him in my corner, I was able to rehab and learn to do the simplest things like talk and walk again. The song that I think expresses me in this situation and coming out of it is “its Not Over” by Karen Clark Sheard.

CB

Working with Pleasure P on your Single, was you hard on him in the studio?

TN

Working with Pleasure P wasn’t that difficult. We both recorded in separate cities, you know modern day technology allows two singers to never really meet. Everyone in the studio has to merge as one..the writers, the producers, the arrangers, the engineers, the singers, the A&R’s.

CB

Who are some of the producers you workingwith for the upcoming album?

TN

I wish I could tell you but it’s a secret. My management has worked long and hard to put this cast together for the album and I’m proud of what he has done in such a short time and with very little resources. I will say this, these producers are some of the best in the business. Many of them have Grammy nominations or a grammy or two under their belts. The studios are some of the best on the planet and the sound coming out of them are crazy.

CB

Your collection of music is very eclectic do they play a part in your music sound?

TN

Yes, I grew up listening to everything from Aretha Franklin to Mozart. Neighborhood kids would chase me home from school because I was so different in the choices of things that I would follow. I love all genres of music, is talent. I try not to box

music into these categories because music isn’t one thing, it’s a collection of moments, sounds, feelings & experiences.

CB

So some of your music go back to your church roots?

TN

Yes, Church is my foundation when it comes to music. Many of my favorite singers are gospel singers to this day. My management has suggested that I do a Gospel album but I just don’t want any of my fans to get confused with who I am right now. I love Gospel but R&B is where I feel most comfortable. Gospel is just that make you feel good all over music.

CB TN

Whats your plans for 2013?

I am aiming to solidify some financial backing in 2013 in order to continue putting out the best music I can. I want to expand my core base of real fans that support my music and I want to start touring and spreading my music to anyone that is willing to listen. I want to be signed to a label this year that wants nothing but to support me and see me succeed. I have been signed to indie labels in the past that really were not there for me as an artist and really cared more about the owners image then mines. What artist wants to be on a photo shoot and the owner has more outfit changes them?? Music is a business, yes I understand that, but I also want a family environment like I have with my management team now. Because I have that with my team, I am hoping to have that with my label also. I might just be asking for too much at this point, but a girl can dream.

Laidy Eselette

Laidy Eselette, a military brat, was born in Jacksonville,

NC. During the back and forth seperation of her parents her mother decided to move to Greensboro, NC along with Laidy Eselette and her two siblings when she 6 years old. Being the middle child of three Laidy experienced middle child syndrome. She was very shy, soft spoken, and usually kept to herself. Music was always her escape; listening to music like Take 6, Fred Hammond, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Deangelo, Brownstone, Excape, Outkast, Marvin Gaye, and BlackStreet etc. With her mother working 3 jobs Laidy Eselette was forced to grow up fast helping her mother take care of home. At only 9 years old she was responsible for making sure her little sister and older brother were ready for school and at times, dinner. In 2002, her parent reunited and moved to Honolulu, HI where Laidy’s life would change for better or worse as she experienced culture and new beginnings. While her household went down hill she buried herself into school winning first place in visual arts in 6th grade and 3rd place in a State poetry contest in 8th grade by simply expressing her feelings on paper. Growing up in the church she was a member of the choir and eventually taking baby steps out of her shyness by leading songs and participating in school and local talent shows. In 2005, Her family moved to California and Laidy joined the Honors choir on behave of her peers. Her voice was the talk of the school and ended up being the first and only freshman to be able to impress the musical director.

A R T I S T [28] Unsigned www.theunsignartist.com

She also joined the step team and made all their uniforms and not only did she make clothes but she made her hustle doing hair and baby sitting in her neighborhood. Throughout the journey she met a Lady named Debra Sawyer that wanted her to be apart of a book called Concrete Roses, a blessing in disguise. Writing plenting of true story but left anonymous because of the disturbing content. She attended the school’s talent show but was forced drop out of the contest because of family business but Laidy was able to perform in the school’s talent show as the back-up singer for all the acts. In the midst of these events Laidy’s parents filed for divorce and with her mother and little sister moved back to NC Laidy’s senior year of school in 2008. Although very focused, life was taking it’s toll on Laidy Eselette. Pregnant her senior year, she managed to graduate in the top ten percent of her class making Cum Laude. From there she juggled motherhood, school, hustling, helping her mother, and for a short period of time she was with Street Locker Ent. Conflicts within the artist and management made her decide to take her chances being solo and started attending local rap offs and networking eventually paid off as crossed paths with her current Manager Keith Fuller and now rocking with the best, Top-2-Bottom Records. She is now looking forward to collaborations with familiar legends in the hip-hop/rap game and ready to suprise the world with her talent as well as her future music collaborations.

Meet Laidy Eselette

Chocolate Butterfli: When did you decide that music was the was the option? Laidy: I always loved music and felt like that’s where I needed to be..I just had a lot of life experiences that gave me a lot of low self esteem it was just a matter of believing in myself and being around people that share your same interest. Chocolate Butterfli:How is the Top-2-Bottom records experience? Laidy: First Laidy in the camp lol Raw talent heard but unheard. We have a fierce team that’s a force to be reckoned with. We are definitely that wake up call the game needs most people say that but we definitely mean it. Chocolate Butterfli: Do you have a favorite track? Laidy: Yea, a couple and a lot of them I actually haven’t put out yet. A lot of projects I’m working on I’m taking the most time with. I like In The Zone. I was just doing me laid back with it and a lot of people actually love it but I actually just threw that one together.

Chocolate Butterfli: Your name Signify? Laidy: I like to carry my self with class, hence lady. But I’m a tom boy at heart. So, I know how to get rough when need be lol.. Chocolate Butterfli:Whice genre play a major role for your passion for music? Laidy: That soulful music that comes from the gut, and also organic. That’s me. I say how I feel at that moment; it just flows. Chocolate Butterfli: Did growing up so fast make your the woman you are today? Laidy: Yea, I could never really relate to girls my age I had a very mature mind at a very young age. So in high school I really went through a lot never really fit in..I think it was actually a part of my 7th grade that I actually chose to be a loner..until I switched schools..and met some friends..my junior year in Bmore I did the same met a life long friend and some mentors that kept me out of trouble too lol

Chocolate Butterfli: You have vocals on your some of your tracks do you sing them also? Laidy: I write and own everything that comes out the booth. I get a lot of request for ghost writing..which I could do. I’m sitting on a lot music that I could hear other people sing or rap, its in my back pocket. Chocolate Butterfli: Is there a major even coming up? Laidy: I’m focused on the craft as of yet of course I’m always making major moves still talking with a couple of important people. My team doesn’t take short cuts. Chocolate Butterfli: Whats the next thing for 2013? Laidy: You’ll know because you’ll see it.

Chocolate Butterfli: Living in Hawaii was the different music culture benifical to your passion? Laidy: The more I grew up and the more music I was exposed to sparked my musical curiosity. I actually learned how to play the ukulele, of course its been years. So, if you don’t use it you lose it. Very easy and beautiful instrument. And also appreciate the lovely reggae music. I loved the music there I wish I could’ve taken the radio with me. Unsigned www.theunsignartist.com [29]
