Project REACH and the Office of Student Life are proud to announce the College Success Series topics for Fall 2015. The five one-hour workshops will be held the first and third Mondays of each month. Project REACH students who attend at least three CSS workshops will be awarded a Success Certificate. Students who attend all five workshops will receive an Advanced Success Certificate. The program is open to ALL students. Planner and syllabi use (September 7): With the amount of technology we have at our fingertips, items such as planners and paper syllabi may seem like a thing of the past. This workshop will teach you the importance of these two items and show you how to properly translate your syllabi into your planner for effective time management for tests and projects. *Please bring course syllabi and planner Growing up: Stepping out of your comfort zone and learning to accept personal responsibility (September 21): Success in college is more than homework and tests. Stepping out of your comfort zone, getting involved, meeting new people and trying new hobbies can open your eyes to interests you may have never thought possible. Accepting personal responsibility is often a struggle for students to realize that YOU are responsible for YOUR actions and decisions. This workshop will provide ideas on how to be successful outside of the classroom! Note taking, textbook reading and study skills (October 5): Having effective reading and note-taking strategies are key components to your academic success at Cazenovia. Students often struggle with the volume of reading expected as well as how to stay focused while reading and during class lectures. This workshop will provide practical tips and techniques to help you read more effectively and achieve deeper understanding of the material. Several different note-taking strategies will also be shared. Test anxiety and test taking skills (October 19): College is filled with tests that not only challenge your knowledge of the subject but your test-taking skills as well. This workshop is designed to provide tips for performing effectively on a variety of tests, including multiple choice, essay, true/false, and short answer. Reducing text anxiety is also discussed. You will gain knowledge of the essential skills every test taker should know. Stress management/Mapping out the end of your semester: staying on the path to success (November 2): Learn to identify your stressors (such as procrastination & poor time management) and your coping resources. We will review balancing homework, classes, work study, clubs, sports etc., and what represents a healthy balance for college students. We will also discuss what to do when you are feeling overwhelmed. The end of the semester is time to make it or break it. Students tend to get disorganized, lose track of assignments and time as the end of the semester nears. In this workshop, you will learn to evaluate and plan out the rest of your semester projects to avoid that overwhelming and stressful “freak out that comes as finals near.
