Election Guide Halloween Happenings

The newspaper you’re holding in your hands got its start 10 years ago, when I designed and printed the first issue of a free, monthly Spanish newspaper for our community. I’ve always Michelle Laird DIALS Editor/publisher envisioned our publications as a way for people to find out more about what’s going on in our community, and I’ve always had even grander visions for how they could evolve. Looking back at what I was doing in October 2002, we’ve come a long way! By the time I sit down to write this column next month, we’ll know who our next president and other elected officials will be, and the Christmas lights will probably be up downtown. Time flies! An article I read when I first got involved

know what's going on.

in the local publishing landscape a decade ago talked about how Logan’s Landing was working to address the issue of empty buildings downtown. Today, they’re accepting the 2012 Indiana Main Street Design of Downtown Public Improvements Award for the pocket park on Market Street. People are working harder than ever to make this community better than ever and I’m proud to be able to help share their good news through Cass County Communication Network. It’s election season, and it seems there’s no escaping the political ads focusing on the economy and on job creation. As we move into the holiday season, we’ll be celebrating some local “job creators” — the local merchants whose stores are a part of what makes our hometown so special. Cass County Communication Network will be highlighting products available locally next month in our 2012 Gift List and we invite all local businesses to share a gift idea with us by Nov. 1. In October 2002, I would never have guessed that we’d be sending out text message alerts when there’s an emergency or using Facebook to help reunite lost pets with their owners. I’m proud to call Logansport home and even prouder that I’ve been able to start a business here that lets me go to work and do what I love every day So here’s to the next decade of Cass County Communication Network and all the great things in store! Thanks for making Cass County Communication Network your source for local news and information!

The inaugural Pumpkin Run for Autism in memory of Niki Savin brought several hundred people out on a chilly fall morning to watch as children of all ages rolled pumpkins down Jefferson Hill to raise money for autism awareness. We spotted Community Development Director Chris Armstrong and her husband, Gary; Sam Fawley and Kevin Callaghan volunteering for Special Olympics, and Dawn and Sarah Fisher racing pumpkins. —Photos by Michelle Dials for Cass County Communication Network.
