Downtown Façade evaluation to start soon

Logan’s Landing has engaged R&B Architects to perform an evaluation of downtown building facades as part of the City of Logansport’s Comprehensive Plan development group. Beginning August 5, 2015 there will be small groups of people walking the downtown area to survey buildings, taking photos and measurements for planning purposes. Rotarians honored

Terry Osborn and Bill Thompson were named “Rotarian of the Year 2015” at a take me out to the ballgame themed banquet and installation of officers for the Logansport Rotary Club. Osborn and Thompson were honored by outgoing President Vicki Byrd for their efforts to restore the Rotary Grill and chairing Rotary’s participation in the Taste of Cass County and Art on the Avenue. New officers for the club are: President, Mark Lowry; Secretary, Angela Runkle; and Treasurer, Carol Sue Hayworth. Rotary Board members are: Kathy Adair, Gary Baumgardner, Angie Berry, Randy Cole, Terry Osborn, Greg Packard, Jason Revord and Past President Vicki Byrd. Season tickets on sale for Civic Players Season Tickets for the Civic Players of Logansport 2015-2016 season are now on sale. The season includes the murder mystery “And Then There Were None” in October; the true love story “Dear Liar” in March 2016; and the 15th anniversary production of

Saturday, August 1 Bicycle Rodeo The Logansport Police Department’s annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo will be held at Tower Park on August 1st, 2015 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Participants will be evaluated on their bicycle riding skills as well as their safety knowledge. Those attending will be given a free pass to the Tower Park Swimming Pool for one day during the 2016 season from the Logansport Parks Department. Members of the Logansport Police Department and their families will be serving free hot dogs, chips and drinks. The Logansport Fire Department will have their Department Smoke House on hand for children to experience and teach them the proper way to exit a smoke filled house. In addition, LPD will be giving away forty (40) new bicycle safety helmets and twenty (20) new bicycles for children ages 15 years and under.

Saturday, August 1 Back To School Party Vineyard Community Church will host it’s 9th annual Back-To-School Party on Saturday, August 1st giving away 300 school supplies filled backpacks for students in grades K-5th from 3-5 pm. Free food, games and prizes, door prize baskets for adults, and music. Children MUST be present to receive a backpack. The church is located at 715 E Broadway. Saturday, August 1, Sunday, August 2 Tuesday, August 4 Civic Players Auditions Auditions have been set for Civic Players of Logansport’s fall murder mystery, “And Then There Were None.” Based on the Agatha Christie novel, this is the story of a weekend on an island where guests are mysteriously killed one by one. It’s time for some of Cass County’s favorite summer events! You can catch live music every Sunday at Little Turtle Waterway. The 10th annual Taste of Cass County is set for August 8 and the 20th Art on the Avenue happens September 19!

Players building at 1115 Erie Avenue in Logansport on Saturday August 1st from 2-4 p.m., Sunday August 2nd from 5-7 p.m., and Tuesday August 4th from 6-8 p.m. Roles being cast include 8 males and 3 females. Performance dates are October 9-10-11, 2015; all Performances will take place at McHale Performing Arts Center. Tuesday, August 4 Scholarship Sendoff The public is invited to the Cass County Community Foundation’s 2015 Scholarship Reception and Send-Off Pizza Party on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 4:00-6:00pm at the Ivy Tech Community Room. All CCCF Scholarship recipients and their families are urged to attend! There will be a drawing for door prizes along with tips for starting a successful college career! A highlight of the event is the naming of the 2015 Back Home Again in Indiana Scholarship recipients which will be announced at approximately 5pm. This year, the Community Foundation has awarded scholarships in excess of $250,000 to 110 individuals to assist them in attaining their degrees. Come and meet and greet CCCF’s 2015 scholarship recipients and their families, CCCF donors, board members, staff & volunteers. Pizza and light refreshments will be served. Reservations are required. Please RSVP by calling the CCCF office at 574722-2200. Saturday, August 8 Taste of Cass County Mark your calendars for the tenth annual Taste of Cass County, brought to you by Logan’s Landing. The festival will take place on Saturday August 8th starting at 5 pm in

downtown Logansport, and features food, fun, and entertainment. Admission is $2 per person, or $5 per family, and refreshment tickets are $1 each. Enjoy live music throughout the evening, as well as food and drink from 12 local vendors. New this year: ride the zip line, sponsored by Security Federal Savings Bank. The 2nd Annual All-American Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place at 7:00 p.m. Adult beverages provided by the Old Style Inn and the People’s Winery. Youngsters will enjoy the Kids Korner 5-8 p.m., featuring games, prizes, and a bounce house. Thursday, August 13 Master Gardener Information Night There will be a Master Gardener Information Night at the Cass County Fairgrounds on Thursday, August 13th at 6:30 PM for anyone interested in learning more about the upcoming Master Gardener Program class. The Indiana Master Gardener State Coordinator will be here to talk about all of the exciting things that Master Gardeners are doing around the state. We will also go over what you can expect to learn from participating in the Cass County program. School Registration Dates Southeastern Schools Southeastern School Corporation is holding registration for the 2015-16 school year on July 29 from 8:30 to 6:00 p.m. An alternate date for registration will be on August 3 from 9:00 – 4:00 p.m. Registration for grades K-3 will be held at Thompson Elementary, grades 4-6 will be held at Galveston Elementary, and 7-12 will be held at Lewis Cass Jr./Sr. High School. IMPORTANT parent meeting for Southeastern 1:1 information. The dates are: July 23, 10 am – 11 am or 6 pm – 7 pm at Thompson Elementary. July 27 from 9 am – 10 am or 6 pm – 7 pm at Galveston Elementary. July 29 from 10 am – 11 am or 5 pm – 6 pm at Lewis Cass. Parents may come to any of the locations regardless of what building their student(s) attends. Parents need to attend only one meeting. This meeting is very important please plan to attend. Pioneer Schools First day for Pioneer students is August 11. Online registration begins August 3. Pioneer Jr. Sr. High School will be hosting a 7th grade Orientation Night on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 6 pm for all incoming 7th grade students. At the orientation students will receive their schedule of classes and their Chromebook. Logansport Schools First day for Logansport students is August 12. Online registration is being held through Aug. 2.

Caston Schools First day of School is August 12. Students new to Caston enrolling in grades K-6 for the first time, or returning students who did not enroll by mail may do so at the Caston Elementary Office beginning Monday, August 3 through Wednesday, August 5. Hours are the same as listed below for the Jr.-Sr. High School. CASTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WILL HOLD ITS ANNUAL “BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT” on Tuesday, August 11th from 6:00 – 7:30 PM. All Elementary students & parents are encouraged to attend. Students may bring in their school supplies and leave them at their desks so they do not have to transport them to school the next day on the first day of school. Students in grades seven (7) through twelve (l2) will enroll at the Guidance Office.
