Oh my goodness, I am so excited for this issue! It may be our 31st issue, but it’s the first one with our new branding. Over the years, you may have noticed that each issue had a different color associated with it. As much as I love color, we will use only our new brand colors throughout our issues moving forward. Those consist of shades and tones of purple, my favorite color, and I cannot wait to hear how you like it. The logo and font on the cover may change based on the chosen image, but it will always be purple from the brand or classic black and white. I hope you like the new rebrand and some icons and monograms we’ll be using. Another thing I am excited about is how well our 9th Annual Wedding Expo turned out, even though it was another year of snow and ice. Our 2023 show was the first time we had great weather; I should have known it was just a lucky year. With that said, QAB Magazine will host another Wedding Expo this August, so watch for more details. Moving on from my excitement about the rebrand and recent expo, let’s switch gears to my excitement about the content in this issue. We have some fantastic October weddings (4 of the 5 in this issue were in October. A prime wedding month) featured in this issue and a beautiful December wedding. Be sure to check out each love story and the list of the local vendors our featured couples used. I have had a little obsession lately with flowers and all the different ways they can be used, especially for a wedding day. We have an article about choosing your wedding day flowers in this issue. There are a few things you need to take into consideration, and we have those available in this article. I’m starting a series of articles for this year on what flowers are best for

each season. In this issue, the article is about popular spring wedding flowers. Our May issue will have summer flowers, our August issue will have fall flowers, and our November issue will have winter flowers. So, if you are still deciding what flowers are best for the season you are getting married, check out these articles in each issue.

Another article in this issue might be more challenging for people to take. Weddings are a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate. But what if one of your loved ones is no longer with you? Remembering Loved Ones on Your Wedding Day is an article with ideas to help incorporate a loved one into your wedding day so that you still feel their presence there with you. It can be as simple as lighting a candle in their honor, a moment of silence in their memory, or wearing a piece of their jewelry. On my wedding day, my grandfather gave me my grandmother’s wedding ring to wear as a reminder that she will always be with me. Even the littlest of things can make a difference. One last thing to mention about this issue is I brought back the vendor catalog. The catalog is available 24/7 on our website, but I wanted to give our readers another place to find our amazing local vendors. You can now see it on our website, in our digital magazines, and in our printed copies. So, make sure to check out all the fantastic local wedding vendors out there. Happy Reading!!!

Our story began as high school crushes that didn’t develop until after we were both out of college. Mitchell gets all credit for reaching out to pursue his high school crush miles away while I was living in Texas. He convinced me to “stop by his families house” over Christmas while I was back in town. His Grandmother convinced us for a Christmas tree picture that night, and the rest is history. Mitchell proposed on Lake Jackson waterfront in Sebring, Florida where we took our first Schrage family trip together. Making Sebring hold a special place in our hearts forever. We are so blessed to have been surrounded by so many family, and close friends on our wedding day! Our wedding day was perfectly filled with sunshine, laugher, and so much love. Each of our Vendors did an incredible job for making our wedding day so special. We look forward to our married adventures in our hometown together and many years of happiness and love ahead!

We were an engagement couple in a previous feature last year. I really just wanted to share some pictures from our wedding day and just say how grateful I was for Wingsong Acres, Alexis Moore Photography, Boki’s Kitchen, All About Cakes, Flying Anchor Entertainment, Sturhahn Jewelers, and everyone else who made our day possible. Our wedding day couldn’t have been more perfect and they all had a huge part in that. The venue is absolutely stunning and exactly what I always dreamt my day would be. Autumn + Cole A December Wedding

LocalLove

TheThompson’s

December 9, 2023 marks the day Cole Thompson and Autumn Buckley came together as one. The Thompson’s wedding was not only a showcase of their love for one another, but it was also a showcase of their love for the most wonderful time of the year. Their wedding day combined the couple’s love for Christmas with the elegant sophistication of a winter wonderland. From a bell ringing send off, to a special ‘Letters to the Thompson’ guest book, to a deliciously sweet hot chocolate bar, the couple were able to make a special time of year even more magical. The most magical part of the entire day was seeing the love that Autumn and Cole have built over the years be put on display and celebrated, and their love, certainly has come a long way. For anyone that knows the Thompsons, they know that Cole grew up in Mendon and Autumn grew up miles away in Liberty. Even though their communities were small, and oftentimes intertwined, the two never really had much interaction. The most that he knew of her was that she was a girl who played for the rival basketball team, and to her, he was the annoying kid yelling in the front row at each of those games. Needless to say, this story wasn’t love at first sight, but rather a love that was formed many years later and continues to grow. Although familiar with one another, Cole and Autumn got to actually know each other during their time at John Wood. Both Cole and Autumn served as officers on the SGA student board, where they got to spend a lot…and I mean a lot of time together. Did she still see him as that annoying fan from high school? At first, yes. But as they continued to work closely with one another, something changed. continued on page 28

After months of trying, Cole finally wore Autumn down enough and convinced her to go out on a date with him. The two’s first date was at the Tower and then they finished the night at the movie theater. Autumn and Cole’s relationship has only continued to grow since those first days of their young relationship. Since that first date, the couple has seen their fair share of ups and downs. They found a way to remain connected through a global pandemic, they’ve learned how to navigate living together while still in school, and they’re currently in the stage of remodeling their first home. The two had the joy of welcoming Miss

28

Oakley Doodle Thompson into their family in the Summer of 2021. Although not a human child, she often feels like one to the couple, and has done nothing but bring them closer. Their proposal story is like something right out of a country song. No seriously. Ask Walker Hayes. While on spring break in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Cole decided to make things official. Unsuspecting Autumn, thought that they were just going for a walk on the beach on an unseasonably cold night. Much to her surprise, and delight, Cole asked her to spend the rest of her life with him, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Tucker and I met when I moved to the small town he was from our senior year of high school. We didn’t date until a year after we graduated and it’s been nothing but the best love story I’ve ever been apart of. We were together for 3 1/2 years when he proposed. It was sunrise on the beach when he got down on his knee among a line of rose petals and tea lights. I cried. It was my favorite yes ever. We married a year and some months later on October 7th of this year. It was such a beautiful day and it was so us. It was perfect. We chose a rustic/vintage/ elegant wedding. It was that and more. The one thing we said all day was we wanted to be in the moment. Our photographer made sure to really capture the day and what it meant to us. We joined our cocktail hour immediately following the ceremony which was a decision I’m still proud we made to this day. We got to mingle with our guests and enjoy the mariachi band we had booked in honor of my Hispanic side. It was such an intimate detail I’m so happy we included. One of the best compliments we got that day was the venue owner saying it looked like one big family reunion. You couldn’t tell people didn’t know each other. We wanted to bring our people together, and I think we accomplished that and more. We were surrounded by friends and family who made us feel so incredibly loved. I remember walking around the corner to seeing the ceremony seats filled with everyone that came and I said “wow, all of these people showed up for us.” I would do this day over again, and I wouldn’t change a thing. There’s nobody else in the world I could have imagined to see at the end of the aisle other than Tucker. Here’s to forever!

Katie + Lance An October Wedding

LocalLove

fromKatie

Our love story began on a dating app as most peoples do these days. Months of getting know each other and countless Mondays watching the Bachelor with me, I just knew he was the one for me. After dating for 2 years COVID hit. We decided it was time we moved in with each other. The world may of been shut down but it didn’t stop us. A month or two go by, I brought home a kitten that I had found on the side of the road. Oops… He didn’t tell me no! He quickly became our new best friend. We eventually adopted a puppy together a short year later. Our world had changed real quick. Lance and I got engaged after dating for 5 years. The planning started right away. I had always dreamed of having a wedding in the Fall. We had picked a date of 10/14. Little did we know the numbers 1014 meant something to Lance’s family. Lance’s mom Janet grew up in Quincy, IL with the house number being 1014. Ever since the passing of Lance’s grandfather the number 1014 appeared so much. The date was very special to us. Lance and I got married in the Quincy University Chapel and our reception took place at my brother’s farm in his building that we happen to call “The Party Barn.” Who knew all the things you had to do to get ready for the wedding? I sure did not. It all began with planting pumpkins with my brother and my nephews at their farm. Months go by and we are picking pumpkins. Which means we are getting closer to the big day! Things are getting real, we are preparing The Party Barn for the biggest party it will ever have. It was finally the big day, we are getting ready, the nerves are setting in, things are in place, its time to walk down the aisle and you see your whole world standing in front of you. It was the best day of our lives.

How to Choose Your

A

Wedding Flowers

s an integral part of your wedding day and a classic wedding tradition, picking out the flowers for your wedding day can be stressful but also exciting. Flower trends come and go, but the great thing is that you can use your flowers to show your style or even the color palette and theme of your wedding day. Do you have a few favorite flowers in mind? Before you jump into ordering flowers, there are a few things to consider, such as budget, style, and color. Read on for some steps to take to help you through the process. Budget for your wedding flowers. We have this listed first because it is the most crucial step. Sit down and talk with your partner about what you both are comfortable spending. Remember that the price will vary depending on the type of flower you may want for your wedding day. If you have a bigger budget, it can allow for more elaborate designs and more arrangements if needed.

52

Find a florist. Hiring the right florist is essential because they will be the one to bring your vision to life. They’ll know how to work within your budget, choose flowers based on your colors, and learn what flowers are in season. As you search for a florist, read their reviews and check out their previous work. This will allow you to see how they worked for others and give you a sense of their style and specialties. No two florists are the same, so do your homework. Gather Inspiration. Pinterest will be your best friend when looking for inspiration in anything related to your wedding day. Your wedding day flowers are not different. Check out some current wedding flower trends and browse other weddings to see what stands out to you and your partner. If you create a Pinterest board, share it with your florist so they can help bring all your ideas together for your big day.

Use your wedding day colors. One thing that can help you narrow down your flower choices if you are overwhelmed is focusing on your wedding day colors. Some flowers like roses, tulips, mums, lilies, and carnations come in a variety of colors, whereas other flowers like peonies and hydrangeas are limited in color. The great thing is your colors do not have to be an exact match to the flowers you choose. This is, again, something your florist can help you with so that your bouquet and arrangements come out amazing. Flowers should reflect your wedding season. If your flower budget is lower, one way to get the most for your money is to choose flowers that reflect the season you are getting married in. If you want tulips for your winter wedding, those will take a lot of work to find and come with a high price tag. If you are planning a spring wedding, check out our article on page 64. We talk about the popular spring flowers used most in weddings. If you are planning a summer wedding, our next issue, releasing in May, will list the popular summer flowers used in weddings. Our August issue will have a list of the popular fall flowers, and our last issue of the year, due in November, will have the popular winter wedding flowers. So, watch for all our issues this year to help you plan your wedding flower. Also, remember that the flowers you choose will set the tone of your wedding. Bright pink ranunculus are playful and peppy, whereas white calla lilies are timeless and elegant. Choose descriptive words like elegant, glamorous, rustic, boho, or modern to explain your wedding style. These will help your florist out tremendously. Be sure to describe your venue, dress code, and other decor you plan to incorporate, as these can all play into the final designs of your wedding flowers.

Wedding Day

Remembering Loved Ones On Your 56

T

here’s no denying getting married is one of the most important days of your life, one of celebration, of family, and sharing a special moment with all of those you hold dear. So, what if a special person is no longer here? The hole that they have left behind can feel more overwhelming than ever. How do you face your wedding day without them? Missing loved ones is natural, especially on significant occasions like your wedding day. Here are some meaningful ways to incorporate them into your special day: 1. Memory Table or Shrine: Set up a designated area at your wedding venue with photos, candles, and mementos of your loved ones. This can serve as a beautiful tribute, allowing guests to reflect on their memories and honor those who couldn’t be there physically. 2. Include Their Favorite Things: Integrate elements that remind you of your loved ones into your wedding day. This could be their favorite flowers in your bouquet, their favorite song playing during a special moment, or serving their favorite dish at the reception.

3. Moment of Silence or Tribute: During your ceremony or reception, dedicate a moment to honor and remember your loved ones. You can invite guests to share a brief memory or reflection or observe a moment of silence together.

7. Include Family Traditions: If specific family traditions or customs were important to your loved ones, consider incorporating them into your wedding ceremony or reception to honor their memory and heritage.

4. Incorporate Their Belongings: Wear something that belonged to your loved one, such as jewelry, a handkerchief, or a tie. This can be a comforting way to feel their presence close to you throughout the day.

Remember, your wedding day celebrates love, family, and new beginnings. You can honor their memory and feel their presence throughout this joyous occasion by incorporating meaningful tributes to your loved ones.

5. Display Their Words: If your loved ones left behind letters, cards, or messages, consider incorporating excerpts into your ceremony or reception decor. Their words can remind you of their love and support on your special day. 6. Light a Candle or Release Balloons: During your ceremony or reception, you can light a candle in honor of your loved ones or release balloons into the sky as a symbolic gesture of letting go and sending your love to them.

Our love story is so special to us, two wandering souls met in perfect timing. You could say it was fate. Our journey began in 2020 when our hearts collided with each other. What started as a beautiful friendship led to a more beautiful relationship. Falling more and more in love every day we knew that we were true soulmates. In the fall of 2022 I took a leap of faith and proposed to my best friend. He said yes. Being engaged has been the most fun, from the planning, the exciting decisions to make. All of it has been a dream come true. We tie our knot March 23,2024 at the Rialto in Hannibal Missouri and we both are so ready for this next chapter of our life. Photos by: Sabrina Schrepfer

Brandon and I were together for over 7 years before he finally got down on one knee and proposed! He knew I had always dreamed of a 4th of July proposal under the fireworks, but as Captain for the Monroe City Fire Protection District in Missouri, he had always been tasked with the responsibility of setting up and executing the town fireworks display, so I knew the chances of that happening were slim. However, on July 2, 2023, Brandon made my dreams come true when he surprised me with a proposal during the finale of the fireworks display at Cannon Dam on Mark Twain Lake! It was a dream come true! I still to this day don’t know the exact words he used beneath loud booms of fireworks but I’m pretty sure it was something along the lines of “Will you marry me?” Photos by: Ariel Burnett Photography

Wedding Flowers

E

for the Spring Season

ven though October is the most popular month for weddings, spring is the most popular season. It’s the season for new beginnings, just like your wedding day marks the beginning of the next chapter in your lives together. Since it is not too cold or hot, many popular wedding flowers are at their peak and available for your spring wedding. This helps with the cost of your flowers, as your florist will have no issue obtaining what you want or need. Below are a few of the popular flowers for the spring wedding season. Peonies From pale pinks and creamy whites to deep and radiant magentas, Peonies are beautiful and work well with any wedding look or theme. “Peonies are a stunning and timeless flower that lend themselves beautifully to a range of styles, from lush and opulent to delicate and romantic,” says Diane Alonso of Flowers by Diane in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Peonies

Ranunculus Ranunculus are a special breed of rose-like blossoms that have grown in popularity over the past few years. You can find this flower in rose, salmon, pink, sunset orange, and white colors. They are great for adding pops of color to your bouquet or table arrangements. Hydrangeas Ideal for brides on a budget and great for indoor and outdoor weddings, Hydrangeas flourish both in the sun and shade. These are the flowers some of us grew up seeing in our grandma’s garden. You can find these in white, yellow, purple, and pink colors, but remember that this flower requires a little more care than the average flower.

64

Ranunculus

Garden Roses A classic and beautiful choice for any wedding style, they are all the rage for spring weddings. Garden Roses come in various colors and are typically a year-round flower, so they are great for switching out other flowers if needed. Tulips Holding the meaning of “perfect love,” the Tulip makes for the perfect spring wedding flower. They come in various sizes, shapes, and textures, from fringed and ruffled to wild or lilyshaped. You will find the best look for any wedding style with their different species. continued on page 67 Hydrangeas

Poppies Alonso says, “Poppies, like peonies, can lend themselves to a variety of styles from bohemian and whimsical to clean and modern.” This flower has become more popular with weddings, and how can it not with you being able to have these in any color of the rainbow? They’re sure to fit any wedding theme or style. Anemone With over 200 species, anemones match any color or style to a wedding day theme. This delicate flower peaks in the spring, so it will need shade but can handle a little sun. Another great thing about this flower is that it can last for days in a vase at home. So, take them home after the reception and enjoy them a little longer.

Now you have a list of the flowers most used in spring weddings. Pick your favorites and have fun looking at how other couples have used these flowers for their wedding day.
